  • The pro-Russian government in Georgia is about to pass a Russian-style anti-NGO law that will be a prelude to a Russian-style crackdown on opponents. It is very important that Western countries impose sanctions on those officials and legislators preparing this move.

      @@j.langer5949 The law allows the government to shut down any media or non-governmental organization it doesn't like, on the basis of an anonymous tip, with the the prosecutor being an only entity involved, no court, no judge required. This is exactly how Soviet repressions worked.

    I am amazed that somehow EU and US thought that despite everything that was happening(even before 2008), Georgia would somehow be Okay left without NATO membership or real EU membership prospects between 2008-2024 ... naturally we have ended up here.

    Is not it a common sense that a guy who engages is geopolitical analysis should first be able to perform reasonably well in other, much simpler tasks in life? like for example 'video editing'? :D On a serious note though, I have been interested in political science, philosophy and ontology for 12-13 years now and for large portion of that time Francis Fukuyama was a very smart and sophisticated political scientist for me; previously I would even think of him as a figure of historic significance. But then, his idea of Liberal State being "End of history" sank into deep ocean :D in addition to this, he can not seem to be able to stop painting picture of Georgia which has no correlation with the reality whatsoever, and at this point, I am unable to tell whether he really believes in what he says about the country or pretends to believe these things for some f-_-ed up reason.

      NGO's aren't "meddling in elections" in Georgia - unless you count election monitoring as meddling? From drawing attention to high level corruption to protecting the identities of domestic violence victims, they are vital to civil liberties here in Georgia.
