  • A mystery has surrounded the royal family of Agrabah for many years: what happened to Princess Jasmine’s mother? And more specifically we are wondering if Jafar could be involved in causing her disappearance. Could the Sultan’s vizier have done this to his wife? Did Jafar have a reason to hurt her? Is it possible that Jafar killed the Queen? Today we are going to explore this question within the story of Aladdin as we attempt to understand what happened to Jasmine’s mother.

I think for the animated one he got rid of her so he could maybe have more influence on the sultan, maybe she was suspicious from the start and Jafar saw this, quickly came up with a plan to eliminate her highness and got closer to the Sultan to gain the power he so craved. One version wanted revenge while the other power, works for both but what you think? Let me know and thinks for reading

I knew Jafar was willing to go to any lengths to seize control of Agrabah, but the possibility that he killed Jasmine's mother just adds a completely new layer to his character. If this theory is the case, maybe another possibility is that Jafar might've killed Jasmine's mother to prevent his plans from being discovered by the Sultan. Maybe the Sultana had found out about Jafar's true intentions and intended on warning her husband and daughter, but Jafar wouldn't allow that to happen, and subsequently disposed of her.

I even heard a theory that maybe Jafar was in love with the Sultana, and attempted to elope with her, but she ended up marrying the Sultan instead, and that's what ignited Jafar's disdain for the kingdom of Shehrabad. This means that if Jafar married Jasmine and then promptly kills the sultan, he is automatically in line to rule the kingdom of Agrabah. At first I would have said he killed her when he was trying to only kill the Sultan, but then I remember it was Iago's idea that he marry Jasmine and become Sultan. I think in the original movie, circumstances are obviously different because there is no second kingdom. So while he definitely killed her in the live action movie, in the original I think this likely isn't the case. Jafar seems to have been at a stalemate for a long time during the movie. He wants to be more than Vizier but he hasn't thought of anything direct to become Sultan until Iago gives him the idea. Killing the Sultan or Sultana won't make him Sultan, unless he married the Sultana. Which was obviously not in his plans or he would have thought to marry Jasmine ages ago and kill the Sultan.
I think in the original film, she died by some natural cause. Or we would see some kind of action indicating she was murdered, like a crackdown on crime or something. But the palace and the city seem to be less connected than even Atlantica and the land right above it, and we actually do learn that humans are responsible for the death of Ariel's mother, hence Triton's hatred of them.

"If I cant have you, no one can." Kind of thing. The reason he wants the throne, in my opinion, is because him being in love with Jas's mom, caused him to believe that one day it would have been his. Also, Jafar reeks of narcissism, which means that the only person Jafar can only ultimately love is himself.

Here’s my theory: Jafar did kill jasmine’s mother. But not purposely. I believe that he meant to kill the sultan but killed the queen on accident. What would he kill the queen?? It wouldn’t make him sultan. Why would he kill the queen just to kill the sultan later? I believe that he got close to the queen and sheribah rejected him because he wasn’t a prince. So then jasmine’s mother had to marry jasmine’s father and jafar wanted revenge. So he meant to kill the sultan to marry the queen but made a mistake. Just my theory. She should be seen and not heard. Typical male views back then, but Jafar enforced it. Evil isn't born, its made. And a man like him has no place for love. I think it has something to do with his childhood. He was a thief like Aladdin, which makes me believe his parents also died when he was very young, or they abandoned him. Jafar is a complex character, and I truly believe he would see love as weakness, so he never bothered. Honestly though I think it would be good for him. Perhaps love would calm the storm raging in his heart. Its inspired lots of fan fics.

I never really gave that theory any thought. Jasmine's mother, if her husband died, would become Sultana of Agravah, and would have spoiled Jafar's plan for vengeance on the kingdom's ally neighbor. And now, Jasmine is the heir to the kingdom's sultanship.

It is very sad that Jasmine lost her mother, and the people lost her because they loved her so much including Aladdin when he was a boy since she always looking out for their well being. I hope in future remakes (and we know they might just do them all.) That instead of leaving the mother (or father) dead with some more explanation they just are both alive. They can still be Disney without starting off with one of the parents dead. Or losing one or both during the movie. This is why Tangled and Brave are some of my favs seeing as they get to keep their parents.

I have my own theory but it only applies to the Disney animated movie universe. In that movie Jafar wanted more than anything to be king, and marry Jasmine so he would be the rightful sultan. Because of their laws Jasmine can't rule alone so she has to secure a male air. However hypothetically, if Jasmine's mother was going to have another child, possibly a boy who could grow up to become the sultan that would have ruined Jafar's plans entirely. He could have used them as a puppet but I don't think he would take that risk. Being close to the royal family he could have found out before anyone else did. There's no evidence to support my theory I just thought about it while watching the video. :) Would definitely make him more devious and he's already proven he's capable of murder without much hesitation so I wouldn't be surprised if he was comfortable killing a pregnant woman.

theres another theory that jafar and jasmine's mom were originally in love but then she is in love with a sultan then jafar vows his revenge against the sultan who at that time they were close friends while the sultan at that time he was still a prince and not yet a sultan. i believe that jafar fell in love with the queen ack then but they were both never meant to be that is why he became so evil when the queen had no other choice but to falling in love with a sultan. not sure if this could be canon but maybe it's just speculation and it is just a theory.

If I'm being honest I do think he killed Jasmine's mother but for a different reason. Now to be clear I haven't seen the live action version(Though because Dino Charge Pink plays Jasmine it's on my to do list) so maybe I'm wrong. But I can see one reason why he would....the sultan in the animated version and from the clips you've shown seems weak and maybe the Queen gave the Sultan a stronger backbone, like some other weak rulers of the past who had strong wives who sometimes would make their husband's stronger by their presence and thus in order to gain power, Jafar saw it in both versions that killing Jasmine's mother would weaken the Sultan and allow him a greater deal of power. This could also explain why he decided to marry Jasmine, as a way to both secure his power and to spit on the Queen's memory because if the Queen was from a hated land of his...why not force her daughter into an unhappy marriage...sounds like the perfect revenge to me.
However I'm probably wrong, I don't think we're suppose to know how that snake's brain works. I like the idea of him just killing the Queen for more power
