If you had three wishes, what would you wish for? Better yet, HOW should you wish to get what you want in the LEAST amount of wishes and, thus, maximizing your gains? Aladdin sure didn't know how! In both versions of Disney's Aladdin, he wastes his wishes trying to climb the social ladder to be able to marry Jasmine when he could have done it in ONE! What one wish, you ask? Watch and find out!

The problem with this wish is that it presumes Aladdin knows that Jasmine loves him and wants to marry him upon making the wish. He does not. He in fact thinks she doesn't even remember him, and believes his smitten feelings for Jasmine are completely unrequited. He wishes to be a prince not just because 'only princes can marry Jasmine' but because 'only a prince would even have a chance with her'. The reason he hides his identity from Jasmine is because he's convinced she has no interest in a street rat and would only be interested in a prince. If he knew Jasmine had the hots from him from the outset 90% of the movie would be missing because he'd just tell her who he was immediately and then Jasmine would conspire *with* him to get married, rather than fight against him about it until she realizes who he really is.
I agree completely. I think Aladdin felt very insecure around Jasmine at first. And he obviously had no real idea how a Prince was expected to behave. It was love at first sight with his Jasmine but he thought he had no chance with her and her father would never approve of her marrying a so called street rat. And Aladdin had that many run ins with Razoul and his fellow palace guards they would soon have told Sultan what Aladdin was really like. So he felt his only option was to become a Prince and even then it wasn't guaranteed he would win Jasmine's wee heart. That famous quote from Jasmine at the palace "I am not a prize to be won" her best quote from the movie. There, Aladdin was outlandish and somewhat arrogant. Sultan may have fallen for his charm, but it didn't convince Jasmine. And then of course Jafar was never going to like "Prince Abooboo" And I think Jafar realized that there was something just not quite right about him. It nearly cost Aladdin his life when he almost drowned on Jafar's orders with the wee ambush and Aladdin would never have been found. Aladdin was playing a dangerous game and personally I don't think he realised how challenging it would be

@@kayohwai Pretty sure the Genie said

Technically, he DID marry her in one wish. The first was to be a prince, which led to him reuniting with Jasmine. His second "wish" was to be saved from drowning and the third was to free Genie.
Don't get me wrong Aladdin is my favourite Disney movie ever but I never understood the second "wish" Aladdin was passed out and gagged, he couldn't make a wish. Genie even said "I can't help you unless you make a wish" Genie deciphered a "nod" as a yes from Aladdin. He was hardly bound and gagged at the bottom of the wee ocean by choice! But Genie went looking for that "nod" He still probably felt aggrieved by the "freebie" in the Cave of Wonders. I thought that was really shrewd of Aladdin lol.
To be completely honest I have always believed Genie shouldn't have intervened here. He didn't have the authority by his "Master" to do anything. One issue I have always had with the Genies rules for his wishes is that he states he can't bring people back from the dead but he then goes on to state that he doesn't like doing it, so don't make him do it, so that means he can just he doesn't want to do it
that also implies to an extent that he can also make people fall in love with eachother but again dosen't like doing it, so in theory Aladdin would just have to somehow convince genie to make one exception for him because the genie could see the good in him , but i could just be connecting things that were never meant to be connected
@@jasperthefriendlyghost6155 both you and op are right but I don't think you can just change the genie's mind about it.
@@jessicabellandy5687 even if it worked it would be so cursed, he would regret fast
Well, it's a point that people often forget; he says that those rules are just his personal rules, not that they aren't possible for him to do.
Which also means that he won't grant wishes like "I wish that I could wish for Jasmine to love me" or "I wish for more genies" or something that might surpass his rules, because he isn't forced too grant every wish if I'm remembering correctly.
However, one thing that could work is asking to marry Jasmine and specifying that the wish doesn't have to make the two fall in love, that it only gets them married.
Even then, it is possible that the genie will not grant that wish because he realizes how on the edge of breaking the rules (which would be his rules) that is.

Fun fact: Aladdin is set in a post apocalyptic world, but they tried to portray an ancient time-line, so when they flew over Greece and Aladdin threw an apple to Jasmin, he proposed to her by doing so because that's what they did in Ancient Greece.
That's just a theory. The only evidence supporting it is the Genies references to modern people, and there's a confirmed reason why. Apparently, Genie can see into the past and future, but he cannot see his own personal future.
@@masedaace5473 the fact that ancient Greece tossed apples to each other to propose is not a theory, its a historical fact. What you claim is a theory is the timeline of Aladin. Well, if he did that, the Sultan would probably just notice that, think its an error and change it back if he wanted to.
Nathan M - Gamer Extraordinaire people don’t notice genie magic
So Aladdin’s wishes should’ve been:
1. Make Jasmine the new Sultan
2. Whatever else Aladdin wanted
3. Free the genie
I have actually pondered how to break the wishing system in Aladdin many times lol. Once I have a lamp I use my first wish for 100 random people around the world to become genies. I use my second wish to bring all the magic lamps in the world to me. Then my third wish would be that no one else can use genie lamps but me. So I will end up with 300 more wishes and will be as powerful as a genie with none of the downsides. I could eventually wish for additional powers and other augmentations on my body to become stronger.
It's sad how you have just stolen the autonomy of 300 people and turned them all into your slaves. Can't you see how messed up that is?
Except, djinn are not to be messed with Robin William's genie is pretty nice for a genie. Remember the phrase, "Be careful for what you wish for." Fairytales and tales about djinn are the reason that phrase exists. Look up the story "The Monkey's Paw", that can give a person nightmares. 😬

Loved this theory! But I disagree with MatPat's reasoning of why asking to be a foreign prince wouldn't work. Yes, a lot of the time they did arrange marriages to be tactical but Jasmine's father wasn't like that. He clearly loves her and wants her to be happy and have love so I honestly think that as long as Alladin was a prince and therefore an eligible partner for Jasmine, her father would let her choose to marry him.
True, but Jasmine was incredibly picky and refused to marry them. Plus, she didn't recognize Aladdin by his face, so she wouldn't have married him

Genie: "I told you already, no--"
*"Who said anything about love?"*
Good point. They give the genie a set of rules so he’s not omnipotent but you can find plenty of loopholes in the rules given. Can’t wish for more wishes? That’s cool. Didn’t say anything about wishing for a new genie.
@@thehorseformerlywithoutana2522 And that wish is canon by the way, Jafar wishes to be a genie and become one, so the genie CAN create more genies.
@@thehorseformerlywithoutana2522 no rule stopping you from wishing the rules away too

Well done, MattPat!
"I wish for all of your powers, Genie, with none of your limitations." BOOM you're a god.
I don't think Genies can grant wishes that exceed their own power.
@@wingedbluj1674 It wouldn't exceed it. Genie was able to realise the wish that he becomes free.
It seems you found what I would wish for
Technically this should work. Jafar became a genie, but forgot the magical cuffs that bind a genie to a lamp and keeps them prisoner. When the owner of the lamp sets a genie free, they're not performing the act themselves but rather give permission for the genie to set himself free. By that logic genie should be able to grant Aladdin the wish to be a free genie.
@@PunakiviAddikti Thank you, hadn't thought of it that way. Good insight! :)
The whole time I’m just waiting for MatPat to say:
“So Aladdin should have wished for the law that Princesses had to marry princes to disappear.”
Same here! "I wish for princesses to be able to legally marry anyone they choose." Done.
It would have been so easy.
It wouldn't have worked, like he said, not everyone is affected by the wish, it would still be a thing in the Sultan's mind, and he can just put the law back into place. Wish wasted.
@@Aspenglade It wouldn't have really worked, like MatPat said, not everybody is affected by the wish, so the law would still be a thing in the Sultan's mind, and he can just put the law back into place. Wish wasted and gone.
@@emeraldserena5591 Not really, not everyone is affected by it like MatPat said.
Matpat's vids are always so full of knowledge
The rule said he couldn't make someone fall in love with him... but his wish could just been "I wish to be legally married to princess jasmine" everything preventing the marriage would then be void.
The problem is he doesn’t think Jasmine likes him because he’s a street rat, that’s one of the reasons why he wishes to be a prince. So wishing for Jasmine to be sultan, according to his thoughts, isn’t going to help him.
That isn’t the point, the point is that this was the wish he should have made when you take everything into account
well he still has three wishes so .....
PLAN OF ACTION:
Wish No. 1 make Jasmine sultana
Wish No. 2 make himself a foreign sultan
then , send a diplomatic mission or some other dumb excuse to meet jasmine then marry her and....
Wish No. 3 set genie free.
boom . EASY.
This video does a lot of research and comes up with a very bad plan.
Just wish to have all the qualities needed for Jasimine to love and marry you.
That is not wishing for love but to have the qualities that would make you loved.
Sarah Cox that’s just a waste of wish just to marry 1 person
JetDoes that’s still a waste for me
There’s one theory that when Aladdin made his wish to be a prince that was the exact moment his dad became the leader of the 40 thieves that appear in the sequels. Or, as it’s put, the KING of thieves. As the son of a ‘king’, that would technically make Aladdin a prince.
Katherine That’s cool!
Oh, I thought that wasn't canon.
Hmm, not bad...
Hey, another Katherine! I’m a queen and apart of a pop girl group! You?
that's not how that works outside britain. generally, a prince is the monarch of a principality.
Aladdin should have said "I wish for a pen and paper and whatever I write in the paper come true" for the first thing he should have writing that he could have infinite wishes (because its not a genie) and then he could have wished for Jasmine to become Sultan (like u said) and then he would have had infinite wishes 😊

Aladdin: "I wish there were no rules."
Genie: contemplates life decisions
1. Befriend her
2. Flirt with her
3. Start dating
4. Propose
5. Get married
Generally good advice
He is still a street rat remember? Also she can marry only Prince and she cant decide who she will marry.
You missed 6. *profit*
Lol I would need 5 wishes for that
Now that's just crazy talk!
Genie: "You can't wish for someone to fall in love with you"
Matpat: "I'm about to pull a sneaky on ya"
What if Jasmine was a commoner
JOJO!!
It’s sad that Aladdin would’ve never thought of that possibility because he already stated that theres no way a princess like herself would date a commoner like him
It insinuates that he doesn’t fully believe in reciprocated feelings from that one flirty encounter
Yeah he basically is just wishing to meet her as her equal. That gives them both freedom of will to get into this thing. If he wished to be a sultan he could just order her to marry him, and he wants her to fall in love with him, not force her to be with him.
He could have just wished that I wish to be a genie who can make unlimited wishes for himself.
That’s literally how the villain get defeated, by wishing to be a genie and then getting trapped inside a lamp
Genie: 3 rules. No bringing back the dead. No killing anyone. No making someone fall in love. Oh and only 3 wishes.
Me: That's 4 rules.
Genie: Got a problem?
Me: No you do tho.
Genie: Why is that?
Me: I wish there was no rules on my wishes.
Genie: Well F*ck.
So I can wish me 3 new wishes when 2 are used
Me: and I get infinite wishes
Genie: noooooo.....
May I ask you one question; are you a genius
Oh no, I can only give indirect answers. Uh . . . . PERHAPS.
Genie: "Sorry, I can't change the rules in any way so you just wasted a wish."
Aladdin: “I wish for Jasmine's love.”
Genie: “Can't do that. Genie rules.”
Aladdin: “I wish for no genie rules.”
But then it would take him two wishes and Matt wants to make him get Jasmine in one wish
noirre99 if there are no genie rules then on your third wish you can wish for unlimited wishes
@@koibubbles3302 I know, but it would technically still take two wishes to accomplish it, even if you can get unlimited genies on your third wish.
noirre99 Meh, as long as you have unlimited wishes
(Slow clap)
1. I wish yes rules didn't apply to me.
2. I wish for infinite wishes.
If the genie isn't able to that then wish for a genie that can.
I don't imagine that Jasmine would have been too happy if she ever found out that a wish Aladdin made led to her dad's death. I mean that's basically what wishing for Jasmine to become sultan amounts to.
"I wish to be undeniably the ideal husband for Jasmine"
Done. Boi doesnt have to think. Only the genie does. Because its "undeniable" people would just KNOW about his greatness the instant they doubt him.
Genie can just turn you into a eternal vibrator that doesn't need bateries
@@fdsajklre thank u for your input
And THIS is why we don't have random mad/insane gods and goddesses walking among us granting wishes.
The problem is that the Genie isn’t exactly a genius. Though he can see into the future (probably? It’s a little ambiguous), he’s shown multiple times to be outwitted by Aladdin himself. He’s unlikely to come up with a better plan than our Boi.
Plus, he’s *on* Aladdin’s side. If Al gets what he wants, Genie goes free. It’s already in his best interest to make sure Al gets the girl. Thus, making him a prince is likely the best the Genie can come up with as well.
