Mulan is an AMAZING movie - the songs, the characters, the redefining of roles in society! During my previous Disney series of videos where I figured out the most deadly of Disney movies, Mulan peaked my interest for another reason. While researching the avalanche scene where the majority of the Huns were taken out, I learned a bit more about how the science of avalanches work. It posed the question, did Mulan's rocket attack REALLY defeat the Huns or did the Huns ACCIDENTALLY defeat themselves? You are about to find out!

If this new Mulan doesn't have "I'll Make a Man out of You" then they should stop production right now.
Sad thing is,
They didn't, and they also didn't include Reflection (only the orchestra version of it) smhhh
zzB4CKUP4CC0UNTzz The orchestral versions were enough for me. It would’ve been weird for them to sing a musical number. They did have a few lyrics and quotes in the movie but I’m not gonna spoil it for op ☺️
You can't really think of this as a remake since the only thing that is the same is the premise that's It nothing else is the same
@@Vixen1409 Yeah after seeing the trailer I agree.
@@zmadisonz AND THEY DIDNT HAVE MUSHU OR GENERAL SHANG
Disney: "Let's remove the songs and comedy relief character to be more accurate"
Also Disney *mixes multiple time periods centuries apart*
It has nothing to do with accuracy. Also we can't be sure is those would be actually removed. After all contrary to what people think we actually do see Mushu in trailer...
@@TheRezro They said the film wouldn't be a musical, there'll still be music (because most every movie has music), but characters won't be breaking out into song like before. And Mushu's exclusion is intentional, and it looks like he's being replaced with a phoenix, seemingly because the Chinese, who are apparently the primary target audience for the film, hated the character in the '98 film and the tone of this remake seems to be quite a bit darker, trying to be more accurate to the story the film is based off of, and the comedic character of Mushu doesn't fit that tone.
@@TheFancyUmbreon yet all the top-ranking movies in china have a dragon in them... alter the character....

@@TheLegendzMinecraft You should its actually really good!!!
I feel like the only logical question after this is: “Did Mulan just sentence her own friends (and herself) to death, or would they have actually been safe where they were?”
I'm pretty sure they were standing off to the side on a slightly higher cliff. They were down to their last rocket & thought they were going to be killed when she did that. But she & a few others jumped down to engage the others so they were kind of in danger.
I mean if they took out the entire hun army but they lost their lives, that’s what they were fighting for. They were willing to risk their lives
To be fair, Shang did say “If we die, we die with honour.” And the rest of the troops were prepared to fight an unfair battle in hopes of just dying with honour, knowing they will fail regardless. Shang only said that to make it seem like their death would not be in vain. Mulan went off on the idea that everyone was prepared to die and tried to get rid of as many Huns as possible. She probably expected to be swept away with the rest of the Huns but thankfully the Imperial Army found shelter and helped her out later. It was basically a suicide Mission.
They were out numbered, could not likely to survive the cavalry charge anyway.
Oh yeah, I 100% agree that they were prepared to die, just posing the question: is it plausible that they survived?
There is an inside joke in my family. After a story is told, someone says,”And that is how Mulan saves China.” Don’t know where it came from but i love it

It *IS* a dragon so probably yes.

Mushu vs. Flint FIGHT!!!!
I mean, even at 7d6 damage, that should be enough to light a fuse.
Well some Chinese dragons CAN breathe fire. And MUSHU is apparently one of the varieties that CAN. Fire+Rope=burning rope which equals cannon fire. So yes. A cannon can be lit by a small Chinese dragon.

9:13 not a bad attempt, the “Huo” and “Long” were very close, but the other two are pronounced something like “Choo” and “Shu-ei”
P.S. “Huo” “Long” “Chu” “Shui” are four characters.
火龙出水嘛没毛病
yeah i made a similar comment but i just typed the chinese characters out lol
I just wanna say the Hán Việt (Chinese-word but Vietnamese? I dont know how to explain it :/) version of it is Hỏa Long Ngự Thủy ( if i translate that right)
Hỏa: Fire
Long: Dragon
Ngự: at ( something like that)
Thủy: good ol' water
Just a little fact i think you will enjoy
P.s: I'm not a pro at these kind of thing so correct me if im wrong.
“Huo” would mainly be referred to fire, “long” would mean dragon, “chu” would mean this: 出 and “shui” means water.
Also, he translated it wrong. “Huo-Long-Chu-Shui” translates to “Fire Dragon Coming Out Of Water”.

Did Mulan save China?
MatPat: Well yes but actually No... not really.
11:12 Did MatPat seriously compare the hypotenuse length to the height of the mountain??
He should've compared the vertical range (Max vertical distance of rocket from ground) to the height of mountain.
Saransh Gautam I’m sorry I don’t understand what u just said at all
noah thewright me neither some ppl ain't blessed with brains brother 😂✋️
Saransh Gautam, that gets a bit more complicated-however Matt’s math is still plausible. Sense the arc of the mountain doesn’t interfere with the impending rocket, the height and ground distance remains the same-in fact-it could make it easier. Instead of trying to get a option over a 90 degree slope, hitting the target is like throwing a ball at a slope instead.
@@noahthewright7942 The vertical range of rocket means the maximum height covered by the rocket above the ground "while it moves in its parabolic path". So ue should've compared that with the mountain's height instead of the hypotenuse of a right angled triangle made by the rocket when it is at it's peak.

@@luvzlayy he is just some weirdo mining for views
Guys just report him
A friendly reminder to all, form someone that has been a lot near and on snowy mountains
1. Move to the Side.
Once you see an avalanche heading your way, do not try to outrun it. Find the highground, some mountains have big rocks you can run up on to get away.
2. Grab Something Sturdy.
This does not mean run down to the forrest and lock down on a tree as the avalanche will instead of sweeping you away crush you against the tree.
3. Swim.
you will be tossed around like a ragdoll inside a avalanche, if you do find yourself inside a avalanche your main goal should be to stay close to the surface as when the avalanche finaly stops it will harden like rock and you will not be able to move so for the life of you try stay as close to the surface as you can.
4- Hold One Arm Up.
this one ties in with number 3, if you do find yourself inside an avalanche a life and death changing decision will be getting an arm above the surface as this can save you in a few ways.
you might be able to start digging up your face so you can breathe again.
you can wave your arm so any potential rescuers can see you and rescue you quickly
5. Create Room to Breathe.
do your very best to have some room in front of your face and ensure that your stomach is not compressed by the extreme pressure that comes with being inside a avalanche.
the snow will become a cocoon around you and try to press all the air our of you, as an example try breathing with someone sitting on your stomach.
6. Stay Calm.
Panic never helps. If you panic you will forget all the important things that might save you when it matters.
7. Look up how to rescue others from the cruel fate of being stuck in a avalanche.
there are plenty of tools that can increase the likelyhood of sucsessfull rescue.
8. when in snowy and mountainous areas always come prepared and never go alone
9.make sure to always know the emergency number and make sure you will allways be able to call the emergency number, even if you can save someone they might injuries that must be treated as fast a possible and since avalanches are strong there is a big risk of ripping off the clothes of the one who got caught
these are just a few reminders, if you care about you family and friends and plan to visit snowy and mountainous areas make sure you know how to deal with dangers
You might have just saved a few hundred lives, ya know that :p
Thanks, Luffy. Would have expected more of a seafaring lifestyle, but snow is just as useful!

it seems to me, that you misused thePythagorean theory, is the rocket has a range of... let's say 1km, that would mean, that at an optimal angle (45°) lateral distance would be that 1km, not the hypothenuse, in addition to that, when nearing maximum distance, approximating the parabolic trajectory as a straight line is a bit of a stretch.
When I was a kid, I discovered the Slab Avalanche on a small scale in my back yard. I was playing around, causing little snowfalls with a stick, trying to figure out why some places would work and others wouldn't when my dad came over and told me that what I was doing was the same thing as real life avalanches. I like how he mentions the best parts of the movie from the original Mulan are the stuff that the live-action one is leaving out. He's like "I'm so excited for the new Mulan because I like Mushu and The Make A Man Out Of You Song!"
Are you excited for your second Disney remake on a row to have NO SOUL OR EMOTIONAL WEIGHT?
Evan Ghanason they said they’re cutting some of those things to make the movie more “realistic”, but they’ve turned the Hanz falcon into a fucking witch
*THEY WONT HAVE THE SONG EITHER?!?*
The ONE live action version I'm looking forward to and they're taking out so much!! 😭
@@rainynight02 maybe we can petition fir it to be added! It should. I mean sonic looks great now, a song is (I'm pretty sure ) easier then remaking an entire cgi character
@@ambermargheim5726
It just depends. They'd have to learn the song as well as all of the coriography for each scene, which can take months for everyone to learn properly.
Since it's supposed to release soon, it won't happen.
The way Matpat pronouced “huolongchushui” is so wrong but funny at the same time
Film theory. Mulan and the grinch lived on the top of his mountain so she could train to fight and learn to create avalanches :)
If the grandma doesn't stop traffic in this movie, Im suing.
I don’t think they have her grandma in the live action movie.

The original Chinese name songs great but why does the translated version sound so lame?
He should have probably kept the og og translation which I think should be: water coming out of a dragon. I don't know, but when I grew up listening to all sorts of translation by Americans of Chinese (and English by Chinese), I kinda just prefer the most direct translation, and not tryna fancy the translation up using words like "issuing" etc.
AmazingSalad you Chinese too?
Beatrice Palmer he mispronounced Huo and Sui cuz both are the 3rd tone not 2nd
I have had experience that non-chinese speakers...really cannot speak in the four tones of a Chinese phrase. It's fun to hear though.
I came here because I needed to know how many decibels of sound was needed to cause an avalanche.
That then led me down the rabbit hole of converting decibel to pascals of pressure.
And *that* led me to googling how many decibels of sound are required for the sound to still be heard a mile away.
*It was when I googled “Can a human scream be heard a mile away” that I realized I was probably on the FBI watch list.*

Your pronunciation of the firework was actually pretty good.
Finally a theory that tells us that something can be done and that the movies have actually got it right. Thanks Mat, I’ve been waiting for this moment for what seemed like an eternity.
I’d be more inclined to think Mushu was a descendant of Donkey and Dragon
See, now this is the kind of theorizing that scares me. Matpat has already done some serious cross-overs, I don't need the Eddie Murphey multiverse here. There is too much mid 90's energy there
This is golden
Yes, but what suggests Mulan was set after Shrek?
Stettafire fairytale creatures are everywhere in Shrek, but Mushu’s the only one in Mulan, which could suggest the fairytale population being whittled down for some reason
Disney: Nah Mulan isn't that great
Also Disney: Mulan is a Disney princess despite not being royalty or marrying royalty.
She married shang, the nephew of the emperor
@@Dokataa Don't really thinking that counts, but still, I never knew this

I feel betrayed for him changing the pictures of himself
Bici Animations 🤣🤣🤣 me too, I can't get used to it
oh boy, i wonder if MatPat regrets that anticipation.
0:07 painful lol
The problem with this movie to me is this.
If Mulan would've just stayed home, her father would have gone. But he wouldn't have died. If he was so bad at fighting, he would have just been sent home, like Mulan was in "I'll make a man out of you." Sure, she didn't find herself and blah blah blah, but she did still have her father.
Plus the recruitment edict said "every ABLE BODIED male first born of each household". No one given how advanced Chinese medicine was even back then in Feudal Imperial China is going to accept Fa Zhou as able bodied, he'd fail the first physical test or the guy doing the actual recruitment (being fairly older himself) would probably say "sorry Fa Zhou you are clearly not fit enough and have no sons.".
It wasn't about logic. It was a case of honor.
@@kacperszatko8192 does/did the standing army of China have an Honorable discharge policy?
That, or taking into account that her father was already a war hero, he would have been given a command that was p cushy, maybe training new recruits.
Chloe Chlarson i would think as an already trained soldier, seeing that he had armor and a sword and knew how to use it as he was moving through the forms before his leg gave him trouble, he would have ridden out with Shang’s father as fully trained soldier.
