51 year old ENTJ here and I relate to what you are saying. It is tough to become part of the 3%. Knowing that you are constantly being manipulated for the value you bring to the table, makes it hard not to be suspicious and paranoid about people. I found that by removing my added value and ambition I became less of a threat and less vulnerable to being hurt. Kind regards.

25 years old ENTJ and I kindly disagree. Although I have been wondering for quite some time whether the fact that I am very creative in the way I do my tasks and very insightful may be a reason for people who feel "less than" to try to bring me down, - at this moment I am kind of startled by the idea, especially since I struggle to accept that what I bring to the table is valuable, it would be much more easier for me to just do my tasks and everyone else let me do them without any comments on them, because my worth and my capabilities, and putting them on a scale and comparing them with anyone else's is something I much rather not do, so, as a side comment, the mere idea that people try to bring me down and lower my self esteem and profit off of me is not a problem for me in itself, at I face a moral dilemma about the reasons behind this behavior - anyways, firstly, this would happen to anyone who has capabilities when they encounter someone jealous of said capabilities (I have an ESFP cousin who faces the same struggles - incidentally I see ESFP and ENTJs have the same function stacks, this is interesting) and secondly, lowering your flame so as not to face snarky comments means accepting defeat. And I will not accept defeat. As of late I started to care less and less about what people would think of me when I say my opinion on things, and if they try to play mind games with me, I would just stick to my opinion and to the issue at hand, and if they have a problem with that, they can just beat it. People's opinion and words won't hurt you. But hiding yourself away will chip at your self esteem. The internet is full of resources on how to deal with and navigate dishonest and manipulative people, there are a lot of self help books available, therapy is also available, the more you invest in yourself and in your self worth and self esteem, the less you will care about what other people say or think. When there is a will, there is a way

I agree with the suggestion you got from Johan, it is so spot on.
When you say "I struggle to accept that what I bring to the table is valuable": it is a punch I feel. You will not know you are being manipulated until you don't recognize your own value.
I learned my value by starting actively listening to people, especially sensing people, you will see how other think, and how they fell differently. You can help them and they can help you finding value in yourself and your ideas. For example: I have a mentor who is ESFJ and he always tells me to modulate my TE (as Johan said) I help him with being objective :). Last part doesn't sound like an ENTJ, the example of that girl, sounds more like a very paranoid ESTJ. ENTJs don't just argue and want to be mean because it makes them badasses, or because it just feeds off the ego, or because of whatever lust for aggression most talk about. And other people that feel that want to be the "bad boys" or "bad girls" and want to be typed ENTJ don't get it at all. This type may be quite "cold" at describing the state of a whole situation and show a way to move forward without taking much into account "other people's feelings". But usually what works has nothing to do with feelings for a situation. They can take criticism, they're not delicate in that sense, that's just absurd. But will explode if who they trust betray them, then that's when things get ugly.

I'm an ENTJ lady and I have to agree with this. When at work and someone needs to criticize something I've done or work on doing better they always assume I'll react negatively. I honestly have no problem people telling me what I can do that's easier or more productive. However if someone stabs me in the back or has an issue I'll address it and if they can't handle it or just dont like me I'll ignore them unless it's for work. How they feel about me is not my problem. That's something they have to work on. Usually I get along well with a majority of people. It's a very small amount of people who have an issue with me and it's usually because I'm happy and like to express my happiness.

Working with this one ENTJ doctor, in order to avoid trouble, I just play stupid all the time. I'm an INFP, so I'm good at it. I do everything I can to avoid conflict...although mistakes will crop up. And when they do, I try to get things on track as quickly as possible with no resistance. People who fight with him often get kicked out. He is kind of like a god amongst men. But I can see how the way he presents himself hides his delicate inner self. He jumps into conversations all the time. He loves talking to people about their lives; Their families, vacations, etc. He's very warm and welcoming on the surface (Although he almost seems like an introvert trying to force himself into conversation. It's that fake, exaggerated kind of reaction to every statement.) Eventually, something will go wrong; Perhaps something minute, or something that could jeopardize the whole case. It's always someone else's fault. And that's when he clings the most to the savior functions. Cut throat. No weakness. No mercy. Grill whoever is responsible. Don't let it happen again. And so, the warm light has been extinguished. But as things improve again, he tries to recover some of that warmth by being almost overly courteous. TONS of "please" and "thank you" statements. It doesn't help. It's too late.
It's sad that the ultimate goal of the ENTJ is to be at harmony with the tribe, and yet they often push the tribe away. He wants to achieve so much, and to have such an effect on the communities around him. But in actuality, everyone around is seeing through façade, the peacocking, the warmth that is displayed. But they only see past that first layer, to the cold just beneath. It's just as false as what's on the outside. The true reality, the sensitive inner self, is lost to almost everyone, in the name of just getting the job done. Is it worth the sacrifice?

Think of the type of people you want to be in your life. How do they think and how do they respond to different situations. Now when you go out and meet people you can talk to them and if they say or act in a way that doesn't fit what kind of people you're looking for. If they aren't then move on. They aren't worth being friends with. Hope this helped a little. It's helped me for the most part ,but it's hard to find good people who you can trust. This will at least help develop some Fe.

ENTJ here, 54 years old, male. After 40, there gradually emerged an increasing activity and involvement in self-discovery. By the age of 50-52, one can become a rather profound "philosopher" with a developed Fi (and consequently, a deep understanding of other people as well), while still remaining an active and pragmatic individual. The concept of happiness and sustainable inner well-being expands significantly. ENTJs are always oriented towards utility and efficiency from childhood, but with the activation of Fi after 40, the concept of "utility" gradually becomes deeper and broader. I believe wisdom and real depth come with it, harmonizing the entire integrity of one's character. At the same time, the activity and social engagement remain, and the ability to see the bigger picture becomes much broader.

The sentiment comes from kindness but where it trips people up is that you ignore two things: 1) their own vision for their lives 2) their own feelings about what they want to do. I know an ENTJ is gonna Tina Turner me here and be like "what's love got to do with it?" But that's kinda the point. Many entjs steamroll through life ignoring their own feeling an expecting others to do the same. But others know when you ignore your own feelings for too long life will punch you hard in the face and leave you bleeding. So most people take into consideration emotions in a way that ENTJs or ESTJs do not. Also, a lot of people hate being controlled... and this entjs can come off controlling with their own vision for your personal individual life. The key is to share strengths you see in people and be encouraging but back off and leave them be to chose their own path in life. -intj

It's not an efficient process and it is not predictable and I absolutely hate it.
That and my enfj mother has pretty much beaten value for people into my head, so while it happens it is hard to forget that people matter.
It's taken my whole life and it will take even longer to get anywhere close to mastering it, I still tell my friend if he is prattling on about the details of his day that he is invested in, that i don't have the emotional capacity to deal with the topic. I am open about my preference for abstract and theoretical, because i don't care about the small details that triggered this feeling or that.
But I do let him know, if he is emotionally distressed and if he need emotionals support, I will do the best I can, but I wont invest that energy into a random conversation he had or a trip to the store.

To "rationalize" means to justify an action whether or not it is true. It's job is to just give an explanation or a possible course of action to a situation. It has a lot of pros, i agree but it can become quite a problem when you start rationalizing a seemingly impossible thing to rationalize such as people's actions. We are still susceptible to mistakes and can overcalculate the capability of them, physically and even mentally. If we rationalize with only just the information provided to us, we wouldn't be able to make a sound judgement. Sometimes this ability can also help us to make excuses about things easier and let us not forget the biases that we hold in ourselves.

The acceptance of this fact is the greatest lesson of all.

We try to help people around us, not bring them down. And I believe, an actual ENTJs work on themselves and try to improve, change their bad qualities to become more efficient. I think ENTJ see that 85% of people are not worth the time. I have a lot of people in my life and I need constantly reject offered friendships as I just do not have the time. We have a lot of projects and so little time. And then there are 10% of people we see potential and we like to help them, like somebody helped us. I don't think I am the smartest, but I don't waste my time in here. So if I have something to say I hope you listen.
Then there are 5% of people I listen. And it's not what they say, but how they live. And these are the people I have close relationships with.
It is hard to manipulate us. When we are younger yes, but when we are older it is really hard. And we evolve. The older we get the more we see the game others are playing. So in my inner circle are people I admire. Look up to. And they can say to me anything they like and me also. Then there is another circle, people who work hard and deserve a little help. As we are helped on the same reason thru our life. The 85% they just did not see you in these two circles. And 15% saw. So I think he's right. But it is not like we are mean, it is more that we don't notice you and your feeling.

Now, what you said about thinking and visualizing our feelings out I can’t relate to, which probably means you’re right. I don’t feel like I have a core identity, I don’t know what I want, but on a day-to-day basis, that isn’t a problem for me. I’m not very problematic, depressed, anxious, angry, I’m just kinda empty? Also, I wouldn’t say I’m a horrible judge of character, but I *definitely* have been, to be fair. I can’t think of anyone I hate, either. Finally, since you assess that 1.8%*3%= 0.05% of the population are "good ENTJs", I wonder if I might rank in that group via your wisdom...
    - ENTJ in 50's

    • @Skimmerlit
      @Skimmerlit  Před 3 lety +8

My 3%'s more of an idea than a reality, and far more than 3% of ENTJs are "good" ENTJs. More than my 15%, too, because ENTJs act differently together than they do independently.
25% of ENTJs are probably worth getting to know, but that isn't static--it's more like you have a 1/4 chance of meeting any ENTJ at a good moment in their lives. 1/2 of the time they're in long-term drone-mode, so there's really nothing to befriend or learn. 1/4 of the time they're midway through a tailspin looking to drag anyone down with them. 1/4 of the time they're on the upswing, satisfied with work and life yet still reflective.
The 3% comes from who I think are ENTJ 7w6s or 5w6s. They're difficult to type because although they use ENTJs' functions, their priorities are atypical and they leapfrog regular ENTJ pitfalls. They create their own new ones, sure, but lacking precedent means harder typing. These are the ENTJs with good access to both Se and Fi yet repressed Ni. They come off as perceivers, but their Te is too powerful and omnipresent--yet backgrounded--to be anyone but ENTJs. They aren't perceivers or ESFPs, but they aren't archetypal ENTJs, either.
The ones I have in mind are Colin Quinn and Jim (IA/MM). One's a confirmed/self-typed ENTJ, and I'm almost certain the other is. I used the 3% statistic because if these two exist, others should exist too, like the way unknown elements were theorized then discovered. They're just too good at blending in. Most types are difficult to type the better or odder they use their functions.
As for you: congrats on surviving this long. ENTJs older than 50 are either the most fulfilled people alive or the most depressed. I don't know you, so I can't say, but I'm a nobody on the internet whose opinion shouldn't matter or influence others, so keep doing you and being happy.

I almost took my own life a year ago, but having a colossal mid life crisis in your early 30's ruin everything you've ever worked for is *actually* a pretty sweet deal (as long as you don't go mad or die of stress related issues before you get through it) because then you'll hopefully get a few good years in before you conk out. Truthfully, it's not the stereotypical girl archetype, which I already sort of knew about myself but maybe not to such an extreme. I've mostly tried to use it as a way to grow as a person and practice more self awareness. I find it a little alarming when I meet people who seem almost cocky about their type, usually INTJs in my experience. They often naturally want to confer their unflinching confidence unto me, as their slightly more Extroverted counterpart. I can't help but feel some sadness for them; one can not use this information to grow if one thinks themselves the best already. I haven't met another ENTJ, but I could see this playing out similarly here too. I can think back to a time when I lacked so much self awareness that I didn't even understand how I was making people upset. I was just being practical; didn't they want a solution? Why else complain? Anyway, all this is only to say that many people are kind of garbage until they start trying to develop themselves. I think both ENTJ and ESTJ types can just come across a little more... awful.. until they learn about how ineffective it is.

I definitely notice myself doing this, more so now that I'm hearing it from an outside perspective. When I was younger I used to 'test' people intentionally. Now I think it's coming out subconsciously. Perhaps related to development of feeling?
Been struggling a lot lately. I feel like I have no tribe, nobody who values what I do, or is capable. I know that the best things are made with cooperation, and that some things have essentially no meaning without an attachment beyond the self.
I can't help but notice things that validate feelings of not being liked or appreciated, and it makes me paranoid/distrustful of others. I feel like I can't rely on anyone, and it's maddening.
I feel overwhelmed by what I see all the time, and it's been making me spiral. I so desperately want to fall back on achievement, but I've been in a pit of wasted time and it's just getting worse, and I really don't know what to do.

    • @Ajmes
      @Ajmes Před 2 lety +1

Speaking of self-awareness. I've realized some of these things before as well. Treating people like projects, having plans for others. I have to be careful not to overwhelm people with my energy, enthusiasm, cavalier-attitude. Can be 'indestructible' much of the time, and then the wrong thing gets through and it cripples me(usually blows to my confidence socially). I have a tendency to impress people 99% of the time, and sometimes I realize I can be extremely intense, annoying, irritating, insufferable(however you call it).
I tell close friends I feel like a genie, can help anyone, but often fail miserably to do so for myself. Unless someone else makes it 'their' goal to help me, only then do I feel capable of helping them help me, but I find it so rare that someone not only cares, but knows me well enough to actually find a foundation to begin with(especially without driving me away with misjudging me inaccurately).

I disagree with one thing you said. You brought up that ENTJs are horrible judges of character, that isn't necessarily true. ENTJs are amazing judges of character, however, we can only reach that once we have awareness of ourselves and our own short ability to learn who we are. Through that, we judge individuals almost perfectly because we are judging them based on our own internal conflicts and how we would choose to handle it and how it would make us feel about ourselves.

And I waste no time doing so. But the people that put in the effort to be with me have me completely .

As an entj, I do have a hard time with my feelings, and I certainly think angrily while trying to sort things out but I never show my anger to prople who ask.
And most entj's I've talked(not many) to have been fairly good so Id say there is less than 85% mean ones.
I also believe you underestimate the self awareness of the entj. I at least know I do slightly act a bit like people are projects, but on the inside, in the brain, I know your not a project but I want you to think thats what I think.
Lots of entj's are as also some of the best judges of character. (Maybe you got unlucky) but they are pretty good due to their intuition and observation skill.
Over all, entj's trick peope into making people think we are like this.
(Also i know i sound like a self absorbed jerk, but i am just saying what I think. For all I know im one of the 85% stupid drones. Who knows)
But other wise, this is the one of the best explanations (if not the best) I've seen. Thanks!

Exactly, I'm an ENTJ too and I never get manipulated, we see the bullshit a mile away, as INTJS do too. We just call them out, unlike the INTJ or let them think we get manipulated and have them into a trap. We are NTs so we do think ahead. Also, it may be me, but only let other people know my business when I want too, so they base their image off of that and that alone. Maybe hes just butthurt or naïve, but no one what my true intentions are. People are expendable it's like dead weight, theyll get dropped eventually- they can think as long as they want about me. It won't phase me as long as they don't get in the way of my goals.🤷🏾‍♂️

As an INTJ in a relationship with an ENTJ I can tell you there has been a lot of questioning from my side which made him absolutely crazy, while he is jumping to conclusions as well but doesn't like sharing them with me openly, which makes me even more paranoid.
At the same time, we are both emotionally intelligent enough to communicate and make it work. Both of us want commit to our goals, which includes our relationship, and makes us both focussed on growth. We have our ways of clashing but in the end we are extremely loyal, caring (believe it or not) and push each other forward. While it may not always be easy, I would not choose anyone else to have by my side throughout life. We are made to achieve a lot of great things. 10/10 recommend the match when you're mature enough

“Be patient, gentle and kind with them”
Most of the people adopt this strategy when they are with ENTJs. But not out of a deliberate judgement on their part but utter fear.
That’s what basically turn ENTJs into an asshole in the first place.
Teach them the right way to respect others. Rebuke them as much as possible. With enough mass scale peer pressure and environmental conditioning, we can help them evolve into something really beautiful or have them go extinct all together.
    .
    Kidding of course. 😊

One thing i would like to say, knowing ourselves, im an entj and i think we dont need to know ourselves we just need to know what we need to do cuz basically knowing ourselves technically when u want to do something, u dont need to know like your personal feelings on the outcome, u just need to know what u innately do best basically i guess cuz for example a carpenter would not tell himself that his a professional carpenter before he does his job or does he have a degree in carpentry before he does anythin that correlates to the outcome of what he desires, cuz for example like if u are a carpenter and for example u want to save someones life in danger which u need to be a doctor first right, u only need to know u dont have the basic necessities to produce the outcome of the result knowing full well ur past experiences don't correlate to anythin that is happening currently so basically ur forethought should be to call an ambulance, u are basically entitled to know the things u dont know to these stuffs to immediately correlate everything to one outcome that this is an impossible job for a carpenter, although i guess u can say i can possibly try my best to save the guy even in my lack of experience but like it can cause more damage as well and if i can possibly save them with even any type of help like i feel personally it hurts alot to care for others in tht way, idk its just so illogical to me personally why i should like even in existence to me that i should be prior help to this guy. it hurts my brain alot, i think we are just physically inept to actually adjust to people adaptabilities in perceiving a certain event in simpler terms its just not in my "existence" i guess to prioritize this guy above me. I guess in tht regard we are narcissist i think so basically

What do you mean they will tell you they are tough but they aren't from inside and can't deal with resistance? Also being treated like a project is bad only if not done right!
Don't you treat yourself as a project? We ARE a project to ourselves, one that we need to work on every day.We need to train our mind, physical skills and will in order to grow professionally and personally and to be fulfilled, so we are in fact a project to ourselves! If you are future-oriented like a ENTJ'S you know that if you invest your hard work and resources now, it will pay off later (if it something must have been done wrong)! This is the whole idea of investment so you need to seek opportunities to invest not only in the outer world but in yourself as well! It isn't only about what you are achieving, but also WHO are you become while achieving it! It is not only about power it is about using it for good! Mature ENTJ know how to motivate and inspire people, without having to be aggressive or controlling and they value your opinion as well! If you show resistance a mature ENTJ won't feel hurt, they will seek understand why are you resisting and to solve the problem in the best possible way for both parties like a problem-solver do! If you don't treat yourself as a project and don't want to progress, develop yourself, have no ambitions or dreams and no persistence and determination to follow them it is a problem for you! Not all ENTJ have problems with relationships and everybody (no matter the personality) is having problems with relationships sometimes, the important thing is for them not to be ignored!Delicate are only immature ENTJ who have a fragile ego and doubt themselves at the slightest mistake and can't accept criticism (which is necessary when it is constructive is highly necessary) or don't surround themselves with better in some way people(for ex.smarter), in order to learn from them like smart person would do, but instead feel irritated and intimidated by them ( just like all other people who feel intimidated by the more successful ones)! This aren't ENTJ, this are immature, insecure ENTJ, if they are trying to better themselves that is a good sign, but they need persistence, carefulness and possibly therapy and you need to be careful around them! I wouldn't suggest suffering a possibly abuse relationship that is holding you back instead of helping you grow! The idea of someone disrespecting you and excusing it as a ,,test"- is a HUGE red flag noone should ever ignore! Also the idea of noone being fair - everybody MUST be fair or there is no justice and no equality and no relationship! Also working relationships are a type of human connection, they are connection made by people, they just aren't personal, are formal, have more boundaries, are between workers, bosses etc. While personal relationships are with close friends, family and partners and are more close, with fewer boundaries, informal and personal! That is the difference but they are still both types are human relationships! Also I am not sure about the easily manipulated and awful judges of character thing, because firstly ENTJ are not highly emotional in front of people, which makes them less exposed to emotional manipulation, they are often smart and successful and you can't be all of this things and still be easily manipulated!About the scared little girls and boys thing, I don't think that its true for anyone except immature undeveloped ENTJ and people in general! There is an entire world of harmony and kindness"😂😂😂😂😂😂 - correction there are SMALL AMOUNT OF people who are sincerely kind, not because of wanting something for themselves nd there SHOULD be an entire world of harmony !😉😎 Normal ENTJ love people who are direct and logical, not people who beat around the bush or go behind their backs, in hope not to hurt their feelings! Be kind, but don't let people use or abuse you have healthy boundaries, be understanding but expect the same, be patient, but if you see that the other person isn't putting any effort in being better than don't feel guilty or afraid to leave!

5:00 ahhh yes exactly how I feel, I get frustrated most of the time due to being constantly misunderstood and I don’t think I’ll ever truly be understood by the people around me especially during my hard times when I need the support and find that it’s nowhere to be seen (the kind of support I’m looking for I think¿the support that will work and end the cycle), during hard times/mental health and self doubt (constantly questioning) and trying to keep my life together and people especially people who I consider closest to me and I care for deeply, don’t see or get how hard it is and how desperate I get and feel for some cooperation to make it easier. And When I do ask for help (which is really hard to do and is rare especially for matters regrading mental health) they don’t comply and brush it off ( and that’s where my self doubt sprouted I believe , constant down playing and brushing off my suffering options goals/motives. Makes you wonder and question your sanity and thought process and think if the whole thing/me is wrong to begin w and I’m just imaging it etc).
the struggle be real at times, especially when I feel like things could have been better if early action had been taken because I’m clearly facing the consequence of neglect so now I have another thing/baggage on my plate to handle..yay me!! But I gotta do what I can do and it’s definitely has and still is a valuable learning experience and something that I’ll be very mindful of when I have children one day, and make sure there needs are met, the whole experience and ongoing journey to reconnecting with myself, self discovery, coronation, understanding/empathy and healing just made me realize how incredibly fundamental and important it is to have a supportive, understanding/empathetic, and caring environment for children and the importance of the emotional side and emotion connection and nurturing that side because if it’s left empty or overlooked the child will grow with a missing piece that will show it’s effects later on in life, and no child should grow up feeling ashamed for asking the bare minimum/basic needs of human nature or feeling scared/insecure and unloved and undeserving of such simple basic/normal yet highly important and crucial things.
Thank you for your video it was informative, and I truly believe entjs have a soft side to them and especially to their loved ones and as you said they’d throw themselves in a fire to help the person they care for, and I feel like I’ve don’t that a couple of times already for people I cared for but unfortunately didn’t see that I was being played/(it wasn’t mutual and the intentions of the other part was never pure and they never voiced it until they decided out of the blue to break it off/end it so I they didn’t give me a chance to realize the issue to be able work on it and fix it because the deliberately choose to hide that side of them, ah if I only trusted my intuition from the start but I was too young and naive to trust it also being the optimist/dreamer I am when it comes to friendships/relationships that brings connection understanding and sense of validation/care that I was deprived of verbally and action/physical wise),
I felt betrayed and deviated and they apparently weren’t on the same
Page as me after all that time and energy put in to it, but it is what it is.

Btw now looking back at my comment and the first minute of the video got me doubting my type (what he said is true I do get irritated or sometimes feel off and at a loss of words when I’m asked how I feel, I think it because im feeling many things but And don’t know how to express it, and do have difficulty naming what I’m feeling but now I got better at it after many hours of studying and researching symptoms scenarios terms etc) im and ENFJ ENTJ INTJ so does that explain why I opened up and explained(tried to explain) what I was feeling¿:)
Because I’m starting to think it’s not something an ENTJ would do
But it is and ENFJ thing maybe, I do/used to journal and write down whatever intense feeling I’d feel when it gets too much and draining and would help lift some eight off my shoulders and get a better understanding off he situation/cause etc after seeing it all out on paper
But it’s been over a year since I had done such a thing and I’m trying to get back to it because I feel like it was a good way of handling it for me

I think whenever i do that is to show their inner emotions of what they actually feel about me being with them and then after the reaction i would guide them to their own wants and desires away from colluding to mine basically. Even if we have the same interests better safe than sorry i guess. I dont know i havent found anyone like i can trust in a way i can be so open to like tell them all my weaknesses and desires that they will collude with me to produce the outcome.
