Thank you Brits for giving this iconic soap the farewell it deserves. Last week at our (Aus) awards show the Logies, they dedicated a few seconds to Neighbours and that was it. Worse still was all the actors were given crappy seats so they couldn't even see what was going on. They are given zero respect from the industry here so thank you for showing them the respect they deserve..
@@j04370859 The UK TV station funded the majority of the show, and the Australian one funded the rest. When the UK station pulled out of their funding, it was left to be funded by Australia alone. I am not letting Australia off the hook, as they could have funded the whole thing if they wanted to, but for the UK to pull the funding of a show which rates well over there, and is different to the UK soaps, which are a bit the same, meant that its days were numbered.
As an 80’s child here in the uk, I have fond memories coming home from school around 4/5pm, and then neighbours would be on tv about 5:30/6pm, sad to see it go, but I guess it was never going to last forever, and once all the veteran actors retire(which wouldn’t have been much longer anyway), it wouldn’t have been the same. So go out on a high while a lot of the original cast are still in the show. 😁

Here in the UK 27 million people watched scott and Charlenes wedding when it aired.. and when you think our population back then was just over 40million..It shows you how obsessed we were with it.. It use to be on twice everyday..Half past one, and then it would repeat at half past five. I haven't watched it for ages but i will be sure to watch the finale..Charlenes coming back..

Fremantle got greedy. They were basically asking Channel 5 to not only fund the entire production, but also make a healthy profit from them on top. Channel 5 had been paying way over the odds from day one, but the price went up and up to the point where they were losing several million per year on it.
Watched it at the start for a good few years into the 90s, adulthood took over and it went out the window. Recently started watching it again a few years ago as the wife would watch it. A sad day it will be when it stops airing.

Best year of Neighbours in the UK for me was 1987 (the 1986 Aussie season). Clive (Geoff Paine), Zoe (Ally Fowler), Daphne (Elaine Smith), Mike (Guy Pearce) and Shane (Peter O’Brien) were my absolute favourites. Also saw the arrival of Madge, Charlene and Jane that year.
This current cast are one of the best one's ever and I'm gutted it's going. This tribute was really good. There is such crap on tv right now but Neighbours is one of the few shows which grabs my attention. Go to 2:04 to 2:07 to see some of the 2022 cast.
Neighbours moved from Channel 10 [main channel in AU] to 10Peach [affiliate channel that nobody watches] in 2011. Channel 5 UK kept it alive for the past 12 years. Home & Away is on main Channel 7 in AU & is promoted heavily by 7 as flagship drama. Sad to see Neighbours being treated with disdain & contempt in its home country due to lack of support from its main braodcaster Network 10 AU.

It was so hilarious when The Neighbors Cast visited Eastenders. I wish they could do that with US Soaps. Have Jess Walton (Jill Foster Abbott) visit Emmerdale and talk to Kim Tate about being married to an Older Man and having his Baby both of which faked their deaths. Have Eric Forrester go to Coronation Street and talk to the Folks about running a Factory and about Sally Spectra. If Guiding Light was still on the Air, have The Coopers go to Eastenders who are distant relatives of The Papadopoulos Family.
They cannot keep on air a show no one watches any more just because people have nice childhoon memories of when they like the show back in the 80's and 90' but dont watch it anymore
The soap went into decline after the Kylie Jason era. The originals began leaving to seek their fortunes in the music/movie/TV industry and the soap never really recovered. They tried turning it into babesation during the 90's with the hiring of models but the decline was inevitable when you look at how the culture changed. I was 6 when the soap first aired here in the UK and the appeal with it was that it didn't take itself seriously. The plots were light-hearted and silly but they were fun and the show was full of good looking people with sun sand and beaches. It was escapism and it worked in the 80's. Society began changing rapidly as the 90's rolled around and Neighbours found itself out of date as too the 80's heartthrob which is why Jason Donovan disappeared almost overnight. They changed several things such as the aspect ratio to bring it up to the visual standards of other Western soaps at the time and they tried making the plots/characters more believable/mature but they were limited due to the soaps airing time. It's sad to see Neighbours end but it's only sad because it reminds me of what it used to be and how so much has changed.
It wasn't the actors leaving, it was the writing & production of the show that went down hill after the first three years..l have a feeling it was partly/mostly due to the BBC forcing them to make it more childish when they decided to put it on at 5:35pm in the UK. I think it was a victim of it's own success. The best years of Neighbours were the years before it became so popular.
I hope its safe i really like watching Home and away. But at one time i would never of thought they would ever axe neighbours. So theres no garentee that home and away is safe.
Craig was acquitted of all charges in December 2020. A new allegation was made in May 2021 from Jeanne Downs, a British TV presenter, but nothing seems to have come of it.
I have to say I'm not a fan of the show, never have been, but i don't get how just because it's popularity dropped in the UK it had to stop being made. It was still popular in Australia, and the producers, etc could have had it streamed online. The producers of the UK show The Bill did the same with The Bill. They tried to market The Bill to the American audience, but the US did not find the show to their liking, so the producers stopped making it.....after 27 years. The Bill was still popular in 22 other countries, but it was like those 22 countries were irrelevant. Why stop making a show just because it's popularity dropped in ONE country, or in the case of The Bill it wasn't popular?

Don't forget that Neighbours did start on Channel 7 in Australia, albeit, for a season. Then Network 10 picked it up.
