I'd come home from school in London, watch children's TV, then my mum and I would settle down together to watch Neighbours, like millions of other British families. It transformed the image of Australia, and left me many memories that will last the rest of my life. From the bottom of my heart, thank you.
We did the same thing. I'd finish work at 4.30, sprint to get my son at 5 and we would run down the hill home to be in front of the telly at 5.35. It's the end of an era. Channel 10 Aus and Channel 5 UK you are making such a big mistake. Don't replace this with some 'five minute wonder' trashy TV. There is enough of that already.
It's engrained in British culture for so many reasons but, for a lot of us, it's not just the soap but what it represents. That time at home, sitting with (usually) your mum and enjoying something, without distraction, together. Then chatting about it in school the next day- in a time where you couldn't text or Whatsapp so you were practically overflowing like a shook up bottle of pop by the time you got into the playground We're not just nostalgic for Neighbours, but for the memories the ritual surrounding it evokes. We can't go back, but, even for those that stopped watching, just even knowing it was still there and still running, a little window into our childhoods and past lives, was a comfort in itself. It's all behind us now and that's the saddest part of all.
Yeah, innit?! Watching it on the goldfish bowl tv with the wheels in the lunch hour, then again on telly in the early evening lol - taking the pages of neighbours posters, covering them with sticky back plastic for your exercise books in lessons, planning my revision, my meals, my whole life lol, around neighbours, heartbreak high, and Sons and daughters x can't begin to express how sad I am that its almost over x

What a travesty, that this show is coming to an end. If only that garbage Home and Away, would be cancelled instead. Used to be a big fan, but now it’s like watching Love Island.
H & A is so boring, started watching it because my cousin was in it even then it was mediocre. It's all visual & pretty but not gritty. I hate how they do music senarios over a scene like it's a lazy filler. Soapies need dialogue, confrontation, action, twists & turns with a bit of humour. Neighbours had it in buckets most of the time
Watched it on and off in the 90’s last story line I watched was Libby and Drew getting together, was not interested after that. Like Home and Away it seemed so much better in the 80’s and 90’s. So not really sad to see it go.
Used to watch it a long time ago though, unfortunately it started going downhill rapidly after the Caitlin character disappeared from the series so decided to give IT a miss soon after . Watched it until the Devlin character got caught out and the man exposed the trouble making teenager Soon enough IT wasn't worth watching though, makes me wonder what they are going to place On instead of neighbours show
