I got the Whoop to improve my knowledge of my body and understanding it. I don’t sleep well and will be doing a sleep study soon to see what can help and they recommended the band. I can’t wait to feel the difference

I got the Whoop 4.0 about 2 weeks ago and I enjoy it so much more despite the fact i constantly try to look at it for the time. Ive been a fitbit user for the last 6-7 years and it doesnt really do anything to motivate you. aside from my work laptop i don't use Apple products so i never considered getting an apple watch.
Seeing my Heart rate on an active chart works really well to motivate me to push harder. I'm also pretty competitive so joining communities and seeing your ranking is so rewarding.
One thing i like watching but seems a bit misleading is resting heart rate. Today mine was 38 which is really low but that was taken during my sleep which is closer to a normal sleeping heart rate. not sure if other people get the same thing but my fitbits also said i would have really low resting heart rates.
Definitely still struggling with recovery. It pretty much tells me i need 10+ hours of sleep per night even if i slept like a rock and was heavy on REM. I cant sleep for that long anymore even if i had the time. My average is around 6 hours. Ive taken a handful of naps since getting the strap but even if i track it, it doesn't seem to effect recovery at all.

So I’m considering getting the whoop 4.0, coming from a Apple Watch user.
My question is I’ve seen where it’s not specifically that great in weightlifting, and I’m not really getting it just for that but that’s what I do the most is lift in a gym , I’m obese and I’ve been on weight loss journey for a while and really im just tired of the Apple Watch, I think it’s a distraction from my everyday life , I wanna be “less technologically distracted “ and I think the whoop would be that for me, opinions on getting the whoop to not only better my health but track gym workouts as well??

I’m only able to work out maybe 3 times a week. A day after working out I’ll be well recovered, then if I don’t manage to train that day, my recovery always goes down. Is that right? So then I feel worse the next day and less like training again.

If it’s consistent, then it may be something like DOMS - delayed onset muscle soreness. Even on days you’re not exercising, it’s important to take steps towards better recovery (e.g. eating right, drinking plenty of water, stretching, foam rolling).
Recovery scores are also effected by other stressors like mental, as well. There can be many reasons for a recovery score to be lower. Working out is not the only thing that effects our body.

My recovery score sucks on Whoop. Every time I workout no matter how much sleep I am in the red for a couple days. Geez man maybe Id be better not knowing.

I have Been using whoop for 3 weeks now and I love it, however, the other Day got a Red recovery so I didn't go on a run but I had to Set up a picnic bench which took a couple of hours, strain for that Day overall Was about 10 (moderate for me when not Working out) I did not hydrate well for that Day as I only drank 2 glasses and I Was exhausted by the end of the Day.
I slept for about 6 hours as usual also sleep Performance was 70% as usual too and I was expecting a Red recovery as I felt tired and dehydrated but I got a Green recovery 70%. Im Kind of confused because I didn't really Do anything to Promote recovery, only sleep but that was pretty average too.
Sorry im still New to whoop and Im trying to understand it more.

To me, it's not a perfect science. WHOOP does an incredible job at providing us data, but it still needs to be paired with our own intuition, which was the point of this video.
With that being said, there's also other things we don't think about like how we were mentally, and the quality of sleep even though you only got 70% of the recommended amount. Then there's things like, what you ate, when you ate, or other things you did that you had no idea may have had a positive effect on recovery.
That's a major part of keeping the journal and reviewing weekly/monthly/annual assessments. Hope you're enjoying the device!

    Apple Watch doesn’t track recovery?

    • @WesJH
      @WesJH  Před 3 lety +2

There are third party apps, but the OEM software that the Apple Watch has does not give you metrics on how well you're recovering, or makes it an emphasis. I also attempted to use the third party apps, and they were not sufficient enough to what WHOOP does.

Henderson is a whoop employee, is that correct? I believe this channel is actually an official advertising channel for whoop because I am hearing one-sided review of Whoop. Would appreciate the video better if you are more up-front with commercial motive and less assumptions on what other players are doing badly.

I actually mark that as the #1 reason I didn't get the WHOOP for well over a year. Very first video. These follow-ups are more detail for those who are already WHOOP users or want to know more about the platform.
