The latest edition of Mitsubishi's Fire-breathing Lancer, the Evo X. Our guys took it in search of great roads and crazy corners. More at: EverydayDriver.com
Congrats! We're flattered that you've watched this piece so much, and very excited you got to realize your dream of owning one. Thanks for watching and being a fan of what we do!
@TheThedragonwarrior - We highly recommend you drive both, as the 370 & Evo X feel very different behind the wheel. The Evo has a better dual-clutch transmission if you don't want the manual. The Zs synchro-rev manual is awesome. The Evo will have more amazing handling and be more versatile. The 370z has great RWD handling, but the Evo will probably amaze you more.
The Evo X is the 10th version of the Lance Evolution. In the US It is offered in two model designations, the GSR (in this review) which is 5 speed manual, and the MR which is 6 Speed Dual clutch. - there are other model variations sold elsewhere - . We have a review of a MR coming soon. I hope that helps, and thanks for watching!
MR review was posted late last year and is available on our Channel. We agree that the GSR needs a 6th gear, and the MR SST is a very impressive transmission. We hope you'll find and watch our MR review, and we welcome your thoughts. Thanks for watching!
@TheFernandotorres17 - Don't worry... if you can't get one right away, you can get one eventually! If you can afford the insurance as a first car, good for you... but the Evo is a LOT of car for someone's first vehicle. Thanks for watching!
We admit our review style isn't for everyone, but we hope you'll watch this entire piece and possibly one of our more recent reviews to get a better sense of who we are and what we do. (Also see our FAQ videos) Plus we've got a review of the Evo MR coming up soon.
These two guys are probably the best car reviewers out there. I love how they really bring out so many details in such short videos. You two are great! Thanx "EverydayDriver"
Love my Evo X. Absolutely everything they said was true. Considering you can do a cold air intake, exhaust, and a tune and be at or around 400whp on stock boost, you realize it's by far the biggest bang for your buck. Family men that are sports car enthusiasts everywhere should rejoice as this is a near perfect compromise of space and performance.
It's ~3500 pounds for the GSR, ~3600 for the MR. My clutch made it to 25k miles, but I've a few friends that went to 40k+, it's all driving style. And yeah, the seats are amazing.
Great video! I love your sense of humor, plus you nailed the experience of driving a car like this for me. "This car doesn't handle, it bends the earth to its will."
I own a 2013 gsr and I'm absolutely in love with it. He's right I drive it everyday with the biggest smile on my face. I did drive an MR though, and even though I love stick, it's amazing what that dual clutch tranny can do
That review is actually, REALLY GOOD! You guys are funny , the camera work in all your shots are great. Also the fact that the music was low on the volume is GREAT. I thoroughly enjoyed hearing the Evo X's exhaust as well. Though it could have been a bit louder.
In 2010 Mitsubishi released a small number of Evo X SEs (340 to be exact). It’s the car you guys were looking for. All of the go fast bits for the MR (SST transmission, Bilstein dampers, Eibach springs, aluminum roof) with none of the frills: no leather, no sun roof, no nav system/hard drive). It sold for about $36K - much cheaper than an MR. They were released to the dealers a couple of months before the 2011models, so by early 2011, the dealers would let them go fairly cheap. They are still out there. Extremely rare and under appreciated.
@warikplaya - Yes, you're considering 2 different groups. The Evo & WRX are one group, and the A4 & CC are the other. If you want refinement, long-distance cruising, etc... go with the CC - It's a better looking, more interesting A4 for less money. The base A4 may feel a bit better to drive, but not by much. If you want performance... go with the EVO. It's the best performance car of your choices by a wide margin. The WRX is fun, but the EVO is more amazing and will give you a bigger grin.
We hope you watched the entire review...? Both of the guys really liked this car and spoke highly of it through most of the piece. We also hope you'll watch more of our work to get a sense of what we do. Meanwhile, there's another Evo review (the MR) coming up soon.
I went to see one at the dealer today. It's nice inside and out. My only gripes: 1: it needs 91 octane fuel, 2: It gets only 17 MPG city, and, 3: the trunk is only large enough for about four shoe boxes.
YES!!! The evo is one of the COOLEST looking and BEST cars you can buy for that price. which is why next year (when I turn 16) I'm getting mine for christmas, in blue
@gehli003 - We doubt that anyone is buying this car for the quality of the digital screen! That's obviously not the point of this car. Yes, the resolution is very poor, and Mitsubishi has actually improved it since this model year. And we don't like all cars from any culture, as you can see in many of our other reviews. But we do appreciate you watching and commenting.
You guys did a GREAT review of this car to see how it performs. I really liked how you pushed the car to its limit and actually drove it on the twisties instead of straight road. The rest of the reviews on CZcams are BS and many of the guys just talk about the specs of the car instead of actually driving it to to see how it runs. This is what you call a review!
@iXetsuei - We called the Evo Boring? The guys love this car and it's in Todd's current top 5 (See our FAQ #2). It's not luxurious, but it's far from boring.
I love your channel, it is accurate and non bias review. I hope you guys can do review on 3000GT VR4 or Eclipse Turbo. Those cars are the most underrated and destroyed by the fast and furious. Good luck getting hands on the stock and clean ones. They are hard to find.!
I bought an Evo-X MR. I live in Australia. It was my dream since 2007. I've seen your review about a 100 times... and boy your right about Bending the earth to my will. I love the interior because I've never owned a new car always had a junkyard car hehehe so im immune to the interior review... But when I test drove the GOLF - R I felt it was better.
Love your reviews guys - screw all the guys expecting Top Gear who give these vids the thumbs down. It's a really informative and honest show. Beautiful car as well - Mitsubishi aren't famous for their design but when they try, they succeed.
@iXetsuei - Paul says "the interior could almost be described as boring" - meanwhile in the rest of the review the guys praise the car for it's abilities and performance for the money. Then they said they would own the Evo, and gave it high marks. So your conclusion is that the guys think this car is just boring. Really?
@ParallelSnail - We've driven both on the track & they are close enough to be debated based on driver preference and bias. However, we found the STI to have more body roll and feel heavier than the EVO. The Evo is light on its feet and a bit better in corners. The STI is easier to launch with better low-end torque and less turbo lag (2.5 engine vs. Evos 2.0). And if you get the EVO X paddle shift tranny (It is a good one) it can overheat after a long hard track session. Todd says Evo.
As an owner may be I can answer a few questions. I have an 08 gsr and it's been super reliable/the most fun car I've driven. As far as upkeep goes, stock tires cost nearly $400 each and are great for track, awful in snow. You will need to replace the clutch after an average of about 30k miles depending on how it's driven and you will need a clutch master cylinder replacement when you Change said clutch. Other then that it's bulletproof, and it takes to mods just as well if not better then IX's.
I just bought my MR about 2 months ago and I still watch this video once a week. Can't wait for the MR video. "Evo X is more like buying 80% of a GTR for 1/2 the cost".
@ParallelSnail - The Genesis Coupe is a really fun car... but its automatic is one of the very worst for performance driving. The EVO X paddle shift dual clutch in the MR is one of the better ones out there. It's as fast or faster with the paddles as it is with the stick shift. Even left to shift for itself it is extremely fast and smart. The EVO X is one of the few cars where we recommend either transmission. And if you're going sit in traffic at all get the SST/Paddle tranny.
Its so unfair how much we pay for cars in Australia!!! 2011 Evo X MR $85000. 2011 Subaru STi Spec R $71000. 2011 Nissan GT-R $190000! You Americans get an Evo X MR for less than what we pay for a WRX, and our dollar has been kicking yours for months!! Some people over here still want $70000+ for their 1999 GT-R V specs. Great reviews you guys do.
Wow, I had no idea the Evo 8 is that much better, I thought they improved them every year. Thanks for the information, no chance I'm buying anything other than an 8 ! And your lucky to have been riding in an evo !
@ParallelSnail - Keep in mind that this car is pretty mind-blowing stock. Dreams of 400hp are possible, but pretty unnecessary. Having said that, the EVO X seems to be a pretty reliable platform for HP figures in the mid 300s. One of the best tuners is Vishnu Tuning, they've refined the EVO X and gotten some good press on their tuning of the car. The issue isn't actually the engine... the MR/Paddle shift transmission seems to only take so much HP/TQ, (Around 350) the stick shift can take more.
WOW! I just found your channel a few moments ago and I am very impressed. Your car reviews are excellent and very professional. Please keep up with the great work!
I drive one... it does require ALL your attention. It also makes me smile everyday. And yes.. the evo doesn't handle well, it just bends the earth to its will. LOL
@thevlogstyle - The MR version, with the Paddle shift transmission is a six-speed, and the upper gear definitely helps highway cruising. The Stick shift is only available as a 5-speed. The EVO, M3, & GTR are all fantastic cars, but we wouldn't recommend any of them as a first car. Besides being a lot to handle they are wildly expensive to insure for anyone under 25.
We happen to have a review of the 2012 MR coming out very soon! Very different car than the Gt-86. The GT86 is about balance and driver involvement, the Evo X is more like buying 80% of a GTR for 1/2 the cost. Evos are great fun, but the AWD and smart Diffs are doing a lot of work for you (like in the GTR). The GT86 is more about driving purity - and that makes it amazingly fun and rewarding. The Evo will be faster in most any situation.
Recaro seats feel great even after 4 hours non-stop highway trip; but most of all, it holds you tight at every hard corner! Well, only down side is you can NOT adjust the height of the front seats... When my car was stock (2011 MR), it ran 26mpg 100% highway (65-70mph cruising). Trunk space is small but will fit a regular suitcase for sure. Rear seat can't fold as well...ugh~ Overall, i LOVE it and very happy with the purchase. Now it has 320hp on the wheel and still does 23+ mpg on hwy =)
@chambois323 - We would highly encourage you to pick up an MR. The gearbox is really great, and makes the car a bit more "everyday" usable. Our favorite is actually the MR Touring, which has a bit nicer interior experience - but that's a rare find and 45k new. For an 08 MR, we recommend shopping nation wide (autotrader) in order find a good deal. Buy as low miles as you can. And expect to pay high 20s-low 30s.
Just bought an 03 lancer evo. seeing the new ones gives me buyers remorse.. haha. but i agree with the first guy. This car DEMANDS your attention. But im certainly happy (as is the second guy) to pay attention to it.
true, i went to a show once, and it cost like $50 to take a lap in a GTR (essentially rent the car with a driver) and since my dad wanted the front passenger, i had to cram into the back seat basically folded up. I loved the car's performance, but if I'm going to end up in the back seat, id sacrifice some performance for a decent backseat
@chambois323 - Obviously, we are huge fans of the Evo X. Todd would love to own one as a daily driver, and it would be an excellent year round car. (Remember it has a Snow setting for the traction & differentials - just buy winter tires). If you are more interested in being involved in driving than comforted, then you'll be very pleased. Reliability: this is a high-strung sports car, so it will require some $ now and then, think of it as more expensive than a civic, less expensive than a BMW.
I easily get 23-24mpg on my '08 MR daily: freeway (going 80mph when possible) & some city driving. The mileage really isn't terrible, but the size of the gas tank is.
This makes me miss my Eagle Talon TSi :( It was so capable (@18psi) and even without all the modern tech - it still gave you incredible confidence with AWD. I settled for a Mazdaspeed3 - it's wrong wheel drive, but it's also $13k less for a brand new vehicle with all the latest gadgets, impressive handling and braking, and equally capable of putting out 300+ safe whp for $1250 aftermarket including the tune. I think compact AWD turbo vehicle pricing has outpaced the demographic.
@bbblahoo7 - We recommend you watch our S5 review as well, if you haven't already. But, in short: The Evo handles much better and has a far more hardcore and involving feel than the S5. The EVO is a canyon carver and track car. The S5 has a much better interior and would be a better choice for any kind of long-distance driving. The Evo has more room for passengers. The S5 has more trunk space. Both get pretty disappointing mileage. Todd would pick Evo every time. Paul would pick S5.
EVO X:
"Have the time of your life while terrifying everyone you love"
💀😂😂😂
"The Evo bends the earth to its will."
Now, I want it.
I bought one because of this video!
And everything is true the Evo X is amazing
Congrats! We're flattered that you've watched this piece so much, and very excited you got to realize your dream of owning one. Thanks for watching and being a fan of what we do!
I'd rather watch you guys than Car & Driver, DRIVE, or Motor Trend. You guys rock.
You can have the time of your life, while terrifying anyone in the car.
Suddenly find myself looking at Evos and found this gem! Old school Everyday Driver! Curse words included even!

sportbike was my 2016 goal, lancer evo x is my 2017 goal, I have to buy this car, and I know i will love it as my everyday vehicle :)

I love how they really bring out so many details in such short videos.

Got screwed out of buying a '14 GSR from a dealership and bought a '14 Camaro SS instead. Would you recommend em trading my SS for a GSR? lol
PREDAtor4B11T how is it doing with fuel and parts repairing stuff , i'm planing to buy one

Future classic the wing makes the car!!
Just bought a 2010 Evo SE today...best decision of my life!
"THE evo does not corner well...does...not...corner...well...it bends the earth to its will" the most epic quote ive heard in a while
EVOOOOO
I have watched this review many times.I just bought a 2010 Evo MR touring it's such a blast to drive.Same color as this video it looks awesome
I love your channel, it is accurate and non bias review. I hope you guys can do review on 3000GT VR4 or Eclipse Turbo. Those cars are the most underrated and destroyed by the fast and furious. Good luck getting hands on the stock and clean ones. They are hard to find.!

i currently drive an 08 eclipse gt and i want this EVOOOO!
Love your reviews guys - screw all the guys expecting Top Gear who give these vids the thumbs down. It's a really informative and honest show.
Beautiful car as well - Mitsubishi aren't famous for their design but when they try, they succeed.
I love this car. But the MR touring is an awesome mixture of EVO power and ferocity, with a touch of civility and class... I want one NOWW!!!

This car kills the STI hands down!!! I love it it's just that amazing!!!
Damn i must stop doing this to myself! Can't afford to get one of those but still keep watching evo's vods :-)
Watching this 11 years later but hey, these guys are cool.
"You can have the time of your life while terrifying the ones you love." Brilliant!!! hahahaha!
Just bought my evo x gsr !! Phantom black cant wait to pick it up
I LOVE this car and the next car i will buy is the Evo 10. This is MY dreamcar.. and its affordable, not as the Mustang, the GTR oder something else.
I just bought my MR about 2 months ago and I still watch this video once a week. Can't wait for the MR video.

Wow, I had no idea the Evo 8 is that much better, I thought they improved them every year. Thanks for the information, no chance I'm buying anything other than an 8 ! And your lucky to have been riding in an evo !
this is my favorite car. EVO is the best. one day im definitely gonna buy one.

2:47 LMAO! That's the BEST Sentence in this whole video. HAHHAAHAHAAAAaaa Awesome stuff...LOVE you guys!
yee
I love you reviews! You criticize when necessary and praise when necessary. Great to know the pros and cons. Thanks! :)
People should first drive an EVO before talking shit about it. it will out perform 95% of cars out there
Perfectly worded my friend 👍
I drive one... it does require ALL your attention. It also makes me smile everyday. And yes.. the evo doesn't handle well, it just bends the earth to its will. LOL
I own a 2011 EVO GSR, it is all that they said and much more!

@ikra - We consider that a pretty huge compliment. Thank you! And tell a friend or two about us... ;-)
"You can have the time of your life while terrifying everyone that you love." lol!
I just gave up the luxury of my mkv R32 for one of these. And I didn't hesitate.
I just sold my mkiv R32 for one of these last week!
After watching this review so many times and almost memorising the script, i can't wait for the MR review!
I love this car my friends got a 93 Evo and let me tell you they've come a long way.
We happen to have a review of the 2012 MR coming out very soon! Very different car than the Gt-86. The GT86 is about balance and driver involvement, the Evo X is more like buying 80% of a GTR for 1/2 the cost. I think it's one of the most bad ass cars out there
When it comes to reviews on cars I only come to these guys lol
I think i watched this review like 10 times.
Love it , love the EVO more of course.
Evo for life. Perfect for the Northeast where I live.

God I want one ! I can't afford the Evo X though, probably going to get an Evo 8 MR. I think the Evo 8 MR looks a bit better as well.
@VVarrio Yes it's a evo. The x stands for 10. A evo 10. But then again, it doesn't use the 4g63 engine that the older version evo uses
man i need this car ...snow is now pilling up to the 40cm..an evo would be loads of fun ! x-)
i tried to "challenge" a Evo X in my 3G eclipse recently. bad choice! will look forward to this being my next car!
I have the EVO X MR. And won the the Redline TimeAttack in 2009 Stock. And the EVO VS WRX/Sti day.
and i think the Evo is more practical for everyday use, the backseats in the GTR are small. the Evo has so much leg room plus it holds 5 people.
I bought mine yesterday. I love it!!
im a subaru guy and i love evos but the thing i hate most about them is that they drive for you.
I easily get 23-24mpg on my '08 MR daily: freeway (going 80mph when possible) & some city driving. The mileage really isn't terrible, but the size of the gas tank is.
I own this car - its brilliant - but get the TC-SST gearbox - makes it very liveable day to day with no loss in performance
I feel like I’ve watched this video at least 1000 times by now 😭😂. And yet I still don’t own one 😭😭😭😭😭
