What a beautiful and amazing automobile. I have been a Lotus fan since Mrs. Peel pulled up in her Elan. Of course there was Jim Clark and his Lotus (Loti ?) but it was the ones I might someday drive that rocked me. Congratulations Todd. At least one is going to a real enthusiast, unlike most of the Porsches around here in So Cal (and, dare I say it, Loti). I was nuts enough to have a 1960 Porsche 356B Roadster as my "daily driver" in the late '70's. May many happy miles of good tarmac stretch out before you. You deserve it!

Just saw one in the flesh at Cars and Coffee a couple weeks ago and they really are beautiful in person, better than on screen and they have an exotic car aire about them. Love the color choice too. Congratulations! Never thought I’d say this but my used Porsche habit is a little more practical for a middle class guy in a small town, as I can do all the maintenance and get a local Indy to do minor repairs, and parts are really easy to get Thought about an Elise as a second car for quite a while and with the Toyota drive train it was doable. But with insurance and taxes and parking space it wouldn’t work. In the end I’ll trade in the 981S next year for a 718 GTS 4.0. Not as pretty or exotic or rare as a Lotus but hey, I’ll manage somehow!

I would've spec'd it exactly how you would have. Relatively easy fixes though. Really, so long as it had the manual transmission, I would have been alright with it though.

For me when considering the best all rounder, track, daily and weekender l would go the 718. Just so much car and unlike the na cars fantastically tunable to 450plus hp and then just like that, in a different league of sports car.

How different is the auto vs manual GR86? I test drove an auto and although it handled well, it completely underwhelmed me when I reached a straightaway and did a 3rd gear to 5th gear pull, redlining each gear. It felt like it wasn’t even moving. I was so set on getting one but this kinda burst my bubble. I’m told the manual is faster and has different gear ratios, is there any truth to this? Don’t get me wrong, I’m not looking for the fastest car on the street, if I want fast, I can just hop in my tuned 335i. I don’t care about top speed just fun in the corners, and above all I just want it to FEEL at least a little fast lol. Hell my old 97 240sx “felt” faster than the GR86. I’m not giving up hope and still waiting to test drive a manual, just asking to see if anyone else feels a big difference between the two.
