One of the few times I've seen Neil smile while playing. Once his mom asked why he never smiled while playing and he answered "Because playing drums is hard mom"
Truly great musicians are always better live! Geddy and Alex - friends since middle school living their dream and appreciating every minute of it. I ran 5K this morning on my 68th birthday listening to Rush. They just make me happy.
wow! That is AWESOME
Rush makes all of us happy dude. 😄🤟🇨🇦
Oh wow. I never knew they were friends when they were kids. That is such a great long lasting friendship. Both living out their childhood dreams.
For many years, these three amazing musicians kept their private lives private. I was 11yrs old when I first listened to their 2112 album, I am now 57, I was absolutely blown away when they started doing interviews, and we all started to see the real them on a personal level...Geddy, Alex and Neil really didn't think that would interest their fans at all,but wholly shit, they were wrong.
Same. First heard them with 2112 at age 11. I'm 57
Yup,I was also 11 when I bought my 2112 album,and also 57 now.Rush makes me happy still!🥁🎸🎙🎶👊
Same.... 🤭 Except I'm 58! 🥰🐰
This is one of my favorite Rush videos. Seeing Neil Peart smile on stage, when he's usually so engrossed in his work, makes ME smile every time.
Saw Rush 18 times man ! Once from the 11 the row ! No words can describe the excitement in the area when the lights go down for a Rush show !
I was there in Rotterdam... Still shivers!
With your screen name I honestly believe you 😁😁👍👍.
You HAVE to do "Rush's Greatest Intro Ever". It's absolutely epic !!!!! About 13 minutes long with a great mix of some of their best songs leading into "Spirit of Radio".
Best idea of the week! Please continue your Rush journey heads on. Your reactions are great!
Seen them live 4 times. Pure magic.
Geddy and Alex have been best friends since they were 13 and they are now 69 and still best friends. ALex started the band when he was around 16 in 1968. Neil joined the band in 1974 and the three of them remained best friends until Neil's passing in 2020. Neil's passing is still fresh for them. All of them not only great musicians but also have a great sense of humour.
Please react to Dinner with Rush to see these guys having a "business" meeting where both the jokes and wine are flowing.
Your doing Permanent Waves I suggest when you get to Natural Science to do the live version from the Molson Amphitheatre Toronto
Have a good one.
First thanks SalvoG, another great reaction of Rush. About the way Geddy plays the bass Is he's trade mark given a special sound like he's old Ricking Baker.
Rush live Is pure Energy and if you notice Alex and Niel play ar the same time the same melody.
Thanks again for a great reaction SalvoG
Hey, my friend, I saw RUSH in the late 80s in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, Best live rock band ever!!👍✌
I was 17 when I saw my first Rush concert in 1978 and I think I was 57 when saw their last show ever. Rush was my life. And now you know why. They were epic in every way.
I am glad that I grew up in this era This is what's missing in 🎵 music 🎶 today Musicians going beyond the boundaries Creating something new Rush defined this There will never be another Rush
Geddy learned a "flaminco" style to incorporate with his playing style to get a little faster and more aggressive to do more with his signature sound. Alex is so underrated. and of course Neil. Glad I go to see them live. Always a great energy , not just from the 3 maestro musicians but the crowd. great reaction keep going down the rabbit hole.
Do Freewill live from the Time Machine tour Cleveland 2011. Great live version plus Geddy and Neil having facial fun afters Alex's solo. Brilliant
🥰 Glad you did a Live Rush! 🤗 Can't wait for Permanent Waves review! ☺️🐰
I don't know how many times I saw them perform that in concert. It never got old!
5:03 WOW... GREAT observation for someone who (I assume) doesn't play bass. Geddy's tone comes largely from his unique right hand technique, which is almost a cross between standard finger style and slap bass. Love your reactions... Seeing someone react so joyfully to something I've known for so long helps remind mer how I felt when I first heard it 40 years ago... thank you for that. 500th like, and a new subscriber. I feel bad you won't get to see Rush in person . As someone who has, I feel honoured to have seen one of the greatest bands in history!
Bro you're the best reactor on youtube. Authenticity is a rare and in-demand quality
I has seen some of your other Rush videos and I enjoyed watch you fall in love them. Natural science is my favorite song on that album and belive me you will be shook with that one. For now though keep enjoying the ride friend ❤
You mention the Rock and Roll Hall induction, or as Neil called indictment, Alex's speech is a must listen and the All Star Finale is awesome
Unfortunately, is too late to see them live. I will recommend that you get a copy of Rush in Rio and watch the entire show, it should be a 3 hours of great experience. I saw them 8 times live and I still watch this blue ray occasionally.
Bringin the Heat well into their 4th decade playing together.
Also, one thing I've noticed form the multitude of Spirit of Radio reactions I've seen, the person reacting - is always smiling .
Rush! R.I.P Neil Peart… Gone never forgotten
I'm sure every Rush fan sometimes has trouble deciding which version is their favorite so you're not alone there. I love that you're doing Permanent Waves I hate the Natural Science is the last song on the album LOL. This is just one of their perfect albums then they have several thank you for doing the reaction
As a teenager I played in a rock band in the early 80s , and Rush took up half the songs we played. They were very sophisticated each of them.
You must react to La Villa Strangiato!!
Somehow I've never seen this version before...loved it! Thank you! Rush was, hands down, the best live band and I am sorry you won't get to see them. But you can watch their live performances through this medium. Apart from 2112 (which should definitely be the studio/lyric version) I would say the live version, if it's good quality, is always the best way to go with Rush. Natural Science - the 1997 Molson Theatre in Toronto - is incredible. It's on this album. Please, please check it out. It's so damn good.
P.S. I tried to leave a similar post on the day you dropped this and something must have gone awry. Sorry if you saw it and I'm just repeating myself.
it's so rare to see Neil show emotion, so when you get to see him react like he did here it's always special!
The chicken.... Geddy had changed how his instruments fed into the sound system, meaning he no longer had stacks of speakers behind him, and it made the stage look unbalanced, so they put all sorts of stuff behind him during the different tours. Washers and dryers... and on this tour they put rotisserie chicken cookers, after the show the chicken was shared out amongst the crew (or so the story goes).
It doesn't make sense to me putting real chicken in them. The logistics alone. I think they stay the same color all concert long. Probably a story
I saw them in Sheffield, England, during the Snakes and Arrows tour and at half time the chicken was boxed up and passed to the audience. When they had dryers on the previous tour they were filled with t-shirts and hoodies that were thrown to the audience at the end of the show.
Oohhh A very good reactor, liked & subscribed. You should watch a Filipina Girl group "4TH IMPACT" they competed on the British singing contest
twelfth series The X Factor, covering the song "Bang Bang" by Jessie J. hit song, garnering 187 Million Views.
I just give the link here : czcams.com/video/H7YRRaOgpUk/video.html
And i mean that with all love and respect.
Geddy has a very aggressive attack on his base, part of his sound!
Great reaction!
Perm waves might be the perfect album to start with.
Amazing 😍
RUSH was my 1st real concert. 1980 2112. It was Awesomeness!
Geddy was inspired by the bass player Chris Squire of the band YES.
If you really want to find out who these guys are. You need to watch dinner with Rush. It's a snippet from beyond the lighted stage. Which is a great documentary I might add which you need to check out. Great reaction man by the way
Wow. Seeing Neil smiling warmed my heart. I don't believe I would be smiling after playing a song for the 2000th time. Thanks for another great reaction. Glad you ask questions about the music, because I was a teenager who just jammed to all of this and never stopped to think about it. I have the same questions now.
I’ve played it a few hundred times and I can hardly wait to play again. No audience. Just me and my guitarist.
La Villa Strangiato live in Cleveland is a must view, even if you don't review it. Just watch it and be amazed.
The tour for this album was totally amazing saw Rush twice in two states I was 15 it was just awesome
The back story on the chicken rotisseries is that Geddy doesn’t use a stack of amps like Alex so his side of the stage is empty so they always put random machines on his side to fill the empty space. They have placed washers and dryers, vending machines a popcorn popper a sausage making machine and various other “props”. It shows they definitely have. Sense of humor. One your Alex had “groupie” Barbie dolls with signs all around his foot pedals as a joke because most Rush fans are male do it’s an inside joke
🤭 Not gonna lie! 🤗 I spent the Snakes & Arrows Show, which I saw at Madison Square Garden, waiting for the monitors to flash on Alex foot Pedals where the crew set up Barbie Dolls like Groupies, holding up signs! 🤭😁🤣🐰
BRAVO !! 🏆🏆
RUSH songs that Stickhitz has remastered, audio and video, are quite good. It’s a labor of love and he is ok with people using them for reactions as he wants people to discover the band.
Hey man. After you do Permanent Waves, I hope you continue in chronological order. Here's a few from where you left off ..
"Subdivisions"
"New World Man" not one of their more family s songs, but it gets heavy radio play in Canada.
"Distant Early Warning"
"The Big Money" awesome song. Do the official music video.
"Show Don't Tell"
Legends ! That’s all that needs to be said.
Nice comment. Thanks!
The "broiled chicken" or "washing machines" were Geddy's idea. Alex loved his Marshall stacks behind him, even when they weren't needed anymore, so Geddy wanted something behind him, and jokingly, went with "washing machines" and "broiled chickens" and the rest is history.
The second reason for the chickens was at the end of the show the crew would box them up and donate them to a local homeless shelter, the band figured since they had three hrs to burn on stage they may as well do something productive with the time lol. Just another reason why they were the best.
@@Fred-vy1hm, agreed 👍👍!!!!
Need to check out some Steely Dan. Amazing jazzy feel with numerous hits. Try "Peg" or Aja to get started
The comment you made about when Alex and Geddy get close…the energy…..I also feel that way about when Plant and Page would exchange looks and when Freddie would get close to Brian…..,THEIR connection makes US feel even more connected. BTW…Jeff Beck is touring now….
Really need to do Tom Sawyer from the same concert with the South Park Intro
Watch a video of one of Neil’s solos. Mind blown.
Unfortunately, you won't be able to see Rush - their drummer - the professor - Neil Peart passed away in 2020. There is no Rush without Neil, and the band hung up their touring as a group when Neil stepped down from the band due to the health issues that finally took him in 2016. I consider myself very lucky to have been able to see them when they were touring.
CHECK OUT THERE VERSION FROM RUSH IN RIO.
Only commentary I have is that you need to listen to the live shows closer to the release date of the corresponding albums. This one was released in 1980, but this tour was from 2007/08. There's over 25 years of minute changes and "decay" in their quality, most noticeable in Geddy's vocal range (the studio version is significantly higher in pitch) and as a guitarist, I can tell you Alex's tone got a lot deeper and grittier as well. Don't be deterred by the 80's and 90's quality of their older videos since they give you a much more authentic taste of their music!
classic
Hey Salvo , please watch either privately or publicly the link below, to see a great Doc about the formation of the band and members history, the good and bad things that happened all about 3hr drivefrom my house on Northern Ontario,Canada...enjoy
I think this song from 1979 is a true timeless song since so many young people seem to still like it today... wouldn't you say, eh!
If memory serves, they would donate the roasted chickens to homeless missions post-show every time.
u already react to this song
so many new rush songs to hear...
Yep I’m going through the entire permanent waves album, heard this song studio version but never listened to a live version. Will be uploading a new rush video every 2 days
wait till you get to Natural Science 🙃
Don't forget these are old men playing at this point.
No.... Thank you !!!
The closest you’ll see live to Rush might be Tool. But Tool is awesome even if you’ve never heard of Rush.
I saw this tour, as well as 2 others. They were fantastic every time! RIP Professor! I saw Rush, Kiss, Aerosmith, and Def Leppard all in one summer.
Hmmm, sounds like 1983?
What the hell? Natural Science live? Sad. You're really missing out
What?
@@SalvoG Need to check out live version Natural Science
@@louisenglish8069 I definitely will
Great, dude. But I'm not a fan of the zooming in on you and cutting out the video. You said you will experience these bands live in person. Unfortunately, you won't be seeing Rush in concert, since Neil is no longer with us
Some videos get flat out blocked because I’m showing video footage so I have to zoom
@@SalvoG I guess that's better than fading. Most reactors seem to pause a few times. IDK what is the best method
@@cogline pausing will work sometimes it’s not guaranteed so that’s why I like to minimize pauses
