- Rush - The Spirit Of Radio (From "Snakes and Arrows")
Filmed in Rotterdam on their 2007 tour in support of the Snakes And Arrows album, this DVD captures Rush at their very best in front of a fervent Dutch audience. Rush are one of the most successful rock acts of all time with worldwide album sales estimated in excess of 40 million units and with a line-up unchanged since 1974. Snakes And Arrows was the bands first new album of original material for five years and was a both critically acclaimed and commercially successful going to No.3 in both the USA and Canada and to No.13 in the UK. The tour in support of the album traversed the globe and finally drew to a close in August 2008. Now this DVD provides a permanent reminder of the stunning stageshow that was Snakes And Arrows Live.
Begin the day with a friendly voice,
A companion unobtrusive
Plays that song that's so elusive
And the magic music makes your morning mood.
Off on your way, hit the open road,
There is magic at your fingers
For the Spirit ever lingers,
Undemanding contact in your happy solitude.
Invisible airwaves crackle with life
Bright antenna bristle with the energy
Emotional feedback on timeless wavelength
Bearing a gift beyond price, almost free
All this machinery making modern music
Can still be open-hearted.
Not so coldly charted, it's really just a question
Of your honesty, yeah, your honesty.
One likes to believe in the freedom of music,
But glittering prizes and endless compromises
Shatter the illusion of integrity.

#Rush #TheSpiritOfRadio #SnakesAndArrows - Hudba
Had to come back and watch this again today to see Neil smiling.
I think this is the only time I've seen Neil show any expression while playing.
Same here. always loved this clip because they all radiate joy :) RIP Neil.
😪
:(
Same here. R.I.P. Neil Peart.
The show I saw had giant clothes washers and dryers that washed hundreds of t-shirts and then dried them, the were thrown into the crowd. One landed 3 feet in front of me, and I reached over the girl in front of me and took it! But she turned and looked at me with such a hurt look that I caved immediately and gave it to her. I ended up getting her phone number and then a year later we were married. We had Rush sang at our wedding.
Wow! RUSH was the catalyst for your marriage and your children!
"Se non è vero, è ben trovato"
cool story!
Thats awesome!
Amazing story, congratulations for both. Greetings from Argentina and Aguante Rush carajo!
Chicken comes on stage, Neil is watching the chicken smiling and never misses a beat R.I.P. Neil Peart
Neil almost loses his shit a couple of times. I couldn't keep my composure like that.
I thought Geddy might crack , but he held it together too.
It was a awesome moment
why would he miss a beat ? he`s been playing that song for 30 years and more , hes on auto pilot by now .
Don’t mean to be a jerk off but it’s *neil
Who else rewinds this video every time he smiles when the chicken comes out ?? Just to see his smile ?? 🖤🖤🖤🖤
Me! And I'll be back again tomorrow and the next day and the day after that...
I’m not ashamed to say it actually brought me to tears. Absolutely fucking magical.
Smiling & doesn't miss a beat. RIP Neil
Grinned ear to ear!!!!!!
I have just backed it up twice, and am ready to watch it for a third time, but decided to drop down and see everybody's comments about Neil's special smile.
Geddy Lee
Alex Lifeson
Neil Peart
Only three people. One of The greatest bands in Rock And Roll history.
Amen
And a cannibal chicken..
Hell Yeah, Bro
Emerson, Lake and Palmer.
they have 4 memebers but that no.4 guys is gone but no one ever mention him
Two friends, a motorcycle, a lost wife and daughter. And he still produces a smile. The man loved what he was born for. Doesn't hurt that Ged and Alex are a couple of comedians.
RIP Professor....😭😭😭😭😭
"I'll have you know I was on stage with Rush once."
"No shit? What did you do?"
"I wore a chicken suit."
Mats Lindgren still better than acting like a mental patient at a Nirvana show
I don't have a vagina, but I almost pissed myself!
Has to be better than as a tree though
Seriously, I would love to be that guy
Mats Lindgren 😂
Neil Peart can barely hold it together when the man in the chicken suit is basting the chickens, but still manages to drum perfectly. Legend.
He's played this song about a billion times.
Lol GOOD stuff man
The Dude doesn’t make it easy to play, even for him.
What is that chicken all about anyway?
@@SteamboatWilley the drummer had lost his daughter in a car accident and his wife to cancer months later. He had taken time off from the band to recover and rode his motorcycle across the U.S. When he decided to come back, the band wanted to lift his spirits and make him laugh so they brought the guy in the chicken suit out to make him laugh and enjoy playing again
1:10 Neil's smile will be etched in my memory until I'm gone. RIP Man.
Iron Maiden "We have Eddie on Stage"
Rush "We have a chicken"
Or on the next Maiden tour they could dress Eddie as a chicken!
Hahahahahhahahahahahha
@@davidfelsher723 Eddie the chickenhead
Chicken
Iron Maiden - we have Eddie on stage
Rush- hold my beer..
Neil, Geddy, Alex… beyond comprehension musicians! Yet humble and down to earth guys! Rush will never cease to amaze me! How grateful I am to have known this trio! Viva Rush forever!!!
Considering the personal turmoil Neil Peart has gone through, to see him smile is quite something. As for his drumming, he's the f#####g best!!
Robin Owen couldn’t agree more. His book is a great read: The Ghost Rider. Rock on 🤘🏻
First time I've watched this since Neil's passing and seeing him smile at that chicken gave me goosebumps and brought a tear to my eye. Sadly at my age, I was never able to see Rush live but I have the next best thing.
Rest well up there Neil. We all know you deserve it
AGREED!!!!!!!!!!
I saw them in the 1980s at Wembley London , Amazing .
I’ve just written the same comment. It’s bittersweet watching this for sure.
He's not resting, he's first chair drum in the Heavenly Choir
People forget that before Eddie Van Halen, Alex Lifeson was widely held as the representative guitar virtuoso.
All respect to EVH, but Lifeson and Hackett more pioneers than he is. Hackett was the first rock guitarist to tap (Lifeson and EVH were obvious fans of him), but EVH became famous cause of it.
@@jidder57 fair enough. I still love 1984 as an album and it’s sad that both Neil and Eddie died.
@@simonbean8855 "1984" is a masterpiece, and yes, it sucks having them gone.
I just cant believe that Alex gets no love, this guy is amazing and I think so many dont even know it.
No they dont
So I've seen this terrific 3 man band 28 times in my life.. They're my all time number 1...
Enough said. These guys just re wrote the book on what a power trio could produce sonically. Fantastic musicianship, writing and performing. RIP NP GOAT.
The best rock drummer that EVER lived!
RIP Neal Peart. I can't believe it. I'll always regret missing the chance of seeing them live
SirPsycho92 yep I always wanted to see thim live too it never happened😢
It will always be a regret that I never saw them live
Me neither, never once saw them.
You have no idea what you missed.
I saw them in Concert at the Rim Rocks Auditorium in 1978 in Billings Montana USA 🇺🇸, they played this ! So Awsome I was a 17 year old AFS student from England 🏴 Best year of my life 😊 I’m going to be 64 years old this year , where has my life gone 😢
RIP Neil Peart 😢
Rush: The BEST band on planet Earth! 😍
+Donna McCubbin yes
+Donna McCubbin no one direction is.
after The Who
Michaelshearer78@gmai
+Donna McCubbin And soon on Mars too!
Best band and best drummer EVER ! RIP Neil Peart
The best drummer of all time
rest in peace Neil :(
Difficult call. Who are you comparing him to?
I am a fan of Geddy Lee's, his voice is outstanding. Even live. It's crisp, sharp, high. It's great. I love this. Thanks Rush!
This performance never fails to make me smile
God Bless you Neil !! You are a quiet/shy gentleman whom set the bar so high on Drums & Percussion that NOBODY will EVER reach .... You are PURE CLASS !!!!!!!!
OMFG NEIL PEART SMILING
same hahahha now i can die in peace
SoulLockhart haha! I think usually he is just deep in thought or concentration :)
Of course he is, it's not everyday in more than 40 years that you divide the stage with a giant chicken.
Neal peart was actually 😁 his ass off. 😄
Nah, that can't have been possible. Tom Hanks must have taken the seat for a few seconds.
Kirk from Metallica said “ I don’t know how 3 guys can make a sound like that”
He didn’t know Emerson, Lake & Palmer
Motorhead confusing 😌
Rip Neil 😢
Neil's smile is the best thing I've ever seen
these guys are like the most unlikely rockstars ever, and yet they're arguably some of the absolute best. go figure.
Im glad peter griffin wasn't there, it could have went real bad, real fast
Best comment ever!
Yes this is an underated comment
A wall of death at a Rush concert.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!!!!!!!
Beat him in 6/8 time🤣🤣🤣
Simply fantastic! Rush, the Orchestra of Rock and Roll!!!
3 outstanding performers, an outstanding audience and an outsanding music. Ouststanding everywhere! Miss you, Neil!!!!
RIP NP . Brilliant band ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Rock In Peace Neil Peart❤️
1952 - 2020
one of the greatest drummers of all time.
1:00 beautiful view that you can see from this video. Rest easy my friend. Heaven got a new drummer.
im twelve and im so glad i found this! it seems absolutely timeless! i think they are totally awesome and that i wish that everyone can hear this!
Do not know if you will ever read this but kudos to you for knowing something special when you hear it. These 3 guys are a once in a lifetime combination. Best to you and yours.
I'm 19 and they've been my all time favorite band since I was 11.
I'm 50. I'm lucky to have had around 35 years of Rush in my life. Hope you enjoy a similar gift from the music gods.
Why is anybodies age relevant here...?
I like to watch this video several times just to see Neil smile.
Rest In Peace my friend😢
one of the songs to put in a time capsule, as an example of "Rock Music"
Never tire of watching this, simply awesome
Still can't believe... The one real drummer, the one real soul lyricist, the one real legend... LY, Neil
These guys have so much fun on stage. They make me happy !!! God bless you all
I'm not a huge Rush fan, but hot damn, this one is one of the few songs I truly dig by them! This performance is awesome too!
Good heavens! The artistic talent is incredible. All that from a 3 man band!
the look of pride in their faces were unreal
the crowd's scream was right in the tempo, just like in the studio record. Amazing!
There are very few artist can can perform live in concert and make their songs even better than their original studio album versions. RUSH is one of those artist. What makes it even more amazing is that Geddy Lee, Alex Lifeson, and Neil Peart have been doing it for over 40 years, and show no signs of slowing down.
+Paul8820 Too bad they probably will be soon. R40's their last full scale tour. Lifeson and Peart have developed ailments.
+Cusco Othriyas Also Geddy's voice just sounds funny now, like he's forcing every word.
+Braden Spencer He is.They been doin it for 40 years.Voice can only handle so much.Still sounds wicked to me
You jinxed it man :(
+Braden Spencer it always sounded funny, that's why we loved it in the first place
RIP Neil Peart, the greatest drummer on earth! You will be deeply missed. Love from Italy
I like how the guitar player sings along with his solo.
leekayfabe Classic Alex.
The Guitar Player. ???????????
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
ALEX FUCKING LIFESON.
I'm getting old. This song makes me cry every time I listen to it. I guess I am just an old chicken! Most of my friends are dead. Getty Lee captures my life in this beautiful piece of music. It is hard to type with eyes full of tears. Most lovely song ever.
Geddy mate, shit getting old.
Paul H
I get what your saying man I'm 58yrs old been a massive fan of RUSH since I was 8yrs old yea 8 music to cry with emotion to brother 💦💦💦👍
Dude, back off of the mushrooms, before you start crying over double rainbows.
Me too just a little tired but today's music sucks 98% of it
Hugs from a fellow oldie - crying is good, it shows you feel.
Three virtuoso players in one band. All players in the band virtuoso....Such energy. Such style. Unmatched.
Tim And the best part is: they’re better together than any of them could ever be alone. These guys were made for each other.
Love this song and Rush!
I was in Manchester, NH in 2007. Saw that concert. Neils 10 minute drum solo just about blew me out of my seat.
Blew me back to Liverpool.
The spirit lives on. Forever!
The best intro ever of all songs I've heard is always spirit of the radio, Alex Lifeson is truly a gifted guitarist
This song brings tears of joy. Never been more happier.
I’ve never been gut punched by the death of someone I never met. But I was today. Came here to see Neil laughing. I’m in tears. RIP NP. 🇨🇦
Listening to Rush since 1999.....Cheers from Ghy, India!!!!!!!!
Bidyut Bhuyan late arrival but least your onboard now
Descanse em paz onde quer que esteja Neil!!!
To this day it still amazes me that such a complex sound is produced by only three people. These guys are awesome.
They have been such a class act for so many years no back stabbing and fighting like so many bands these guys are like brothers :-)
amazing what just 3 people can do.
SkyNerdStudios ...and a chicken
Not too many can play bass, sing, and play keyboard with their feet, all at the same time.
Absolutely right, amazing !!!
Thank you neil for improving the lives of anyone who heard your music
Born and raised in Honduras.. listened to Rush as a kid.. moved to New Orleans in 96 and got to fulfill my dream.. saw them Live at UNO Lakefront Arena for Test For Echo Tour.. I can die in peace now 😌 Their music got me through rough times while deployed overseas! What an amazing band !
Wow. Alex jamming after the "salesman" part was amazing to watch
Amazing music, amazing band. No more to say 😍.
Oh man it hurts to watch this...It hurts man, I barealy hold mytears when playing it on guitar..
Whenever I see Neil smile on here makes me feel heart broken.
What a phenomenal band rip to Neal you played for us and now you're playing for the heavens and the God above thanks for the journey.
"One likes to believe in the freedom of music
But glittering prizes and endless compromises
Shatter the illusion of integrity". This line gets me every time I listen to this song
Dói o coração ao ver o querido Neil Peart e saber que nunca mais iremos tê-lo conosco.
RIP Neil Peart! 😢😢😢
#RIP Neil Peart -- thank you for the memories.
RIP Professor Neil!!! We will miss yu eternally!!’ Ty for all
RIP Neil...Your music will live on..🇨🇦🇨🇦
I'm not having a stroke right? There is a guy in a chicken suit on stage...
+WhammyTime91 Chicken ? this is Captain Kirk from Starship Enterprise ! Yeah stroooooke . . ;)
+WhammyTime91 oh i thought it was just because of the acid i was seeing that
+WhammyTime91 Yeah funny story, actually. Because Rush position their amps at the front, rather than the back of the stage, there's never any stacks filling up the back. Geddy Lee noticed this, and decided something always had to be at the back, so with every tour, there was a different gimmick. With this one, it was a bunch of fast food cookers, and a chicken.
"Because Rush position their amps at the front, rather than the back of the stage, there's never any stacks filling up the back. " Actually Geddy hasn't used any bass amps on stage for a while, his bass is connected directly to a PA system. That's why he has an "empty" space where the amps used to be. Alex has a traditional pile of amps and speakers behind him..
Looks that way to me I had to look three times twice didn't make sense of it
that intro... Alex is so underrated
Jérémie Campeau-Poirier he's not underated just doesn't enjoy the limelight so much and doesn't get so much media attention like Niel whos seem as the best percussionist in the world and rated one of the best drummers of all time
To those who know there stuff lifeson is up there with many others as the elite of guitarists
If anyone shuns the limelight and fame it's Neil, Alex is a musicians musician, definitely in the top five. Playing bass, synth and singing is a man who is clearly a genius. Geddy would laugh this off. RUSH I SALUTE YOU.
One of the greatest bands of all time. I love watching them play, you can see they genuinely love playing together. Rush fact: Geddy & Lifeson (bass & guitar) have been friends since they were kids.
Seeing this live and being part of the whole audience clapping was one of the coolest experiences ever
We attended this tour in Stockholm just a couple of days after this show was recorded and we had some of the best seats. Geddys vocal performances were unusually strong throughout the European leg of the tour, and the whole band was on fire that evening.
As an added bonus, and this was just a lucky coincidence, we briefly shared the table with the guys in Meshuggah at the after party. We asked them about the show and they were (almost) as exited as us.
This song still makes me speechless. RIP Neil
Just brilliant.
R.I.P Neil Peart! Your music will never be forgotten!
Neil Peart. RIP. Awesome talent.
I think I saw Neil actually smile whilst playing.
maybe because he notice the "cannibal chiken" pouring sausage in the oven! ahhahahahahaha
The professor does not smile, he observes his surroundings with varying levels of amusement. In this example he was possibly 4 out of 10 but not higher than 5.
Ibthinknhevwas laughing at the chicken man
Yes he was. I noticed it also.
I'm 53 only knew their name growing up, boy do I wish I listen to them when I was younger they are fantastic thanks from the Aussies
Thank you Neil Peart for the awesome music and incredible drumming that inspired me 2 also become a drummer! R.I.P. Exit Stage Left! The Spirit of Radio will never be the same! 🥁💫🌠
Greatest band ever!!!
Great drummer great guy who played in a great band rip my friend you will be missed
Greatest drummer of all time.
Very sad days....
Great lyricist, musician and writer. Neil is the best ever.
"Suddenly, you were gone
From all the lives you left your mark upon
I feel the way you would"

RIP Neil Peart
Thanks, "The Professor"
Que show aquele !
RIP Neal Peart 🥁
This has always been one of my favorite Rush tunes!
Best live band ever
Man, what great times Rush gave us! Thanks Neil for the great drumming!
RIP maestro
The best thing to come out of canada...ever
There are so many great editions of this song being performed by these guys, but this version always brings a smile watching the chicken man come on stage to baste the rotisserie chickens... Neil sure got a good chuckle out of it.
