If you're smart enough to know how your account works and if you're allowed to keep the digital game or movie forever and it's pretty much fine especially with my 3DS and my Wii U console, I still have my games on there that I've downloaded digitally, especially the classic virtual console games.

I agree with director Christopher Nolan with physical media after the success of Oppenheimer. We need to keep as much physical media as we can. I have found movies that had great packaging like from Criterion Collection, Star Wars, and even Memento at one point. Owning physical media has made an impact on many collectors who collect movies. Otherwise it will feel like collecting movies are just a thing from the past. :(
Edit: I've seen LaserDiscs in the past too at thrift stores and people that own them and they are expensive to own. And they don't belong in a museum.

well a good example is the hit 1980's movie Cocoon it had a blu ray release years ago but only one making copies of the movie very hard to find and expensive. The other issue with that is it is on no streaming service so if you wanted to watch the movie unless you are lucky you are very much out of luck.

My main concern lies with Sony. They do not care about physical media, and are doing their best at stopping with production all together.
They stopped releasing any physical movies in the Netherlands, Belgium and Luxemburg back in 2020. And i’ve been reliant on import from Germany to buy the movies I want (like with Spider-Verse this year). Which means there aren’t even subtitles in my language (not an issue for me, since my English is better than my Dutch. But it’s a problem for introducing new people to media I like)
Considering my country is small, it’s not a big issue, since import is nearly as cheap as buying it from a store. But it’s a scary move, which will likely spread to more and more countries. Which will only make import more expensive
With Disney giving the rights to Sony. It will mean that certain countries just won’t be able to buy Disney movies on physical media at all

Honestly, I prefer physical media, because you get to keep it as long as you want. I do have some old Disney VHS's and DVD's still in possession. If I were to take over The Walt Disney Company. I would do these things:
    1. Get Mickey, Oswald, and the classic shorts removed from public domain. (Sorry, but this should be for the horror filmmakers own good.)
    2. Treat all the employees at the company fairly and pay them more for their work.
    3. Add "Walt" into some of the logos.
    4. Hire more hand-drawn animators at WDAS and make more 2D content, alongside CG ones.
    5. Have only two Marvel movies be released a year. I’ll let Ike Perlmutter oversee all the Marvel divisions.
    6. Fire Kathleen Kennedy from Lucasfilm and remove the Sequel Trilogy from canon.
    7. Shut down Genie+, bring back FastPass, and decrease the prices at the Disney Parks.
    8. Cancel all future live-action remakes and never release them, even the previously made ones can remain forgotten by not re-releasing them.
    9. Add more old shows and movies onto Disney+ and have subscribers share. No removing content, because they should stay on the service for everyone to enjoy (Except for licensed content).
    10. Relaunch all the Disney Channels worldwide.
    11. Get back into the physical media business and tell Sony that the partnership deal is off! Additionally, have it back up in Australia. I believe that we should be in a world where streaming and physical co-exist.
    12. Reopen Disney Stores worldwide. This can work better for them to market their upcoming releases and merchandise.
    13. Hire employees that respect Walt Disney's legacy. I also should make sure they care about the consumers, not the money.

The problem with physical media is space like DVDs and books. One thing I'm doing is ripping my burned CDs and DVDs and storing them on external hard drives and/or put some on Internet Archive for other people to look at. I still keep the ones i bought and give and donate to people who need them. I just don't want to be a hoarder. The same thing would also go for books, as I would download e-books and comics to store in my tablet to read on the go. The only problem is since streaming services have grown less of those shows end up on disks even though they could and that is how they get you. Like i remember there was this one day i went to a half price books and in one of there cases they had the Cartoon Network run of Star Wars the Clone Wars being seasons 1-5 on Blu ray and it was 100 dollars for the whole set and i said to myself that is sadly probably the best you are going to get.

So I doubt, physical copies are gonna be a thing in the past because they said the exact same thing about books and people are still buying physical copies instead of downloading them on e-book or whatever.
So no physical copies are not a thing in the past it’s just big corporations, being greedy.
