    My friends are from Kherson, they were occupied and are now refugees. I had visits there, it is the only city in Ukraine i knew well. The pre-war city was a lovely and laid back mix, old Miami, old Vienna, a Soviet port. There were always ferrel dog packs, students in naval uniforms at the academy. It was lovely and far from Europe, un self-conscious. There was a boy, a barista learning English who would wait for me to come to breakfast to ask me about America. I could not believe the heroism of the Khersonsi, with the Maidan, with the invasion. The occupation took me by the throat, all the way here in California. Some of us will go to lobby Congress next week. It is still such a hard time.

I have sent her many emails asking her to support not only the Ukrainian Aid Package but also Michael Johnson should he put the package on the floor and should MTG then give notice of her motion to discharge Speaker Johnson. if he knows the dems will support him he is more likely to do the right thing.

I'd want to go there too. Got to drive and these photo journalists have the required transportation in and out. My photos of Irpin from May 31 2022, likely aren't anything like this gentleman's. But photographers got to stick together regardless of their expertise. Much, much respect for this journalists. Ukrainian soldiers and President Zelenski are so, so amazing that the world should act to help defeat the russians. People in America who are putin loving such as any of the few United States elected government officials should be impeached and shamed, including U.S. Senator Ron Johnson from Wisconsin. It has been reported that Speaker Michael Johnson will put the $60 Billion Ukrainian Aid package on the floor of the House of Representatives next week (April 8, 2024) As a lawyer, I would care to work with those solving criminal acts by russians and to document in English these terrible acts so the world knows about them and so the world remembers and condemns them. I've been to Ukraine in June of 2022, July of 2023, and January of 2024. I've travelled to Warszawa to deliver generators to Ukrainian volunteers who delivered in a chain of transportation to Bakhmut. I'll be returning in June of this year, 2023.

    This gentleman makes some interesting points but he is a traumatized person from his Syrian horrors and this can make all sorts of people into conflict addicts.
    The stories about people staying put could be defiance or because the Kiev regime at no point AT ALL had evacuation plans in place for any city, town or village. Indeed, with days of being elected, Zelenskyy decommissioned the already cash starved Civil Defense Corps (Kharkiv paid its own from local revenues but many were forcibly recruited into the UAF and spread to different skirmish fronts thus wasting cohesion).
    It is natural to feel connected to people met every day but a journalist's job is report on facts, while possibly creating a portfolio or documentary as well. The problem is that lines become blurred.
    I question the utility and balance of this piece in which an interviewer from a Russophobe web resource interviews another media person. Why not instead send your best qualified and experienced staff to talk to civilians in Kherson city and its environs?
    Then again, is there any point when TR's owners lack objectivity.

    • @libertarianbydefault
      @libertarianbydefault Před měsícem

      @@alenakrav That is not quite true. The USSR threw everything it had at Germany during the WW2, for example. In Ukraine Russia has deployed a (relatively) limited contingent and is using the resources and force required to advance but not to overextend, both in manpower and resources. You could see that in 2022 - the initial force was enough to do what Russia wanted - to compel Ukraine to negotiations. When Ukraine had eventually been led to choose to fight instead of negotiate, Russia withdrew (2nd half of 2022 - and that was a moment of over-extension!), halted Ukrainian progress, increased its own force and started to gradually, yet inexorably push the front line.
      Anyway, I am not sure if this discussion is important or not, tbh. :D If the nukes start flying, then one could say Russia is throwing everything it has got. I will say however that is is quite obviously true that Ukraine is being subjected to massive bombardment, drone attacks and such, no objection there. There can and will be more if the need for it arises. I am not saying this because I am in such an awe of the Russian war machine, no. I am just looking objectively at their economy, industrial capacity, reserves - there is A LOT of room for escalation. I hope it does not get to that and the whole thing ends sooner rather than later.
