Agree, but one cannot dismiss the efficacy of the sanctions- they just take time to take effect and must be constantly tightened which they are. Look to the success of shipping companies involved in mid-ocean transfer of oil (shuttle shipping). Tightened in October-November’23. In February 24 over 90% of global shippers had stopped touching Russian oil- even returning it in some cases... Serbia’s economy is still undergoing retardation from sanctions decades after lifting- and they were tiny in comparison to Russian sanctions.

I witnessed a drone strike targeting a Russian tank just one day ago. Approximately seven soldiers were on top of the tank, hitching a ride, and all of them jumped off before the impact, failing to save themselves. I paused the frame just before the strike and noticed that they were all wearing rubber Wellington boots, indicating a severe lack of basic equipment. Whether you have 10 well-equipped troops or 100 poorly equipped ones, numerical superiority does not guarantee effectiveness. Additional troops require resources for sustenance, clothing, and maintenance, ultimately reducing efficiency. This incident highlights their inability to reach a sustainable level of readiness. It's not about having more troops, but rather about their quality and morale.

Russia will not recover anytime soon from this. none the less the brain drain, generation gaps from WW2 still this is going to hurt Russia in the future from lack of skilled workers and lack of young people around from a brutal world war then losing 500k to another war. none the less their economy is being artifically propped up and will have to stop doing that sooner then later. so tick tock, times running out for Russia.

I see this as well, you can see it in the visible Economic stats. Gold reserves dwindling, Oil production falling (but being stated as production cuts), inflation matching or exceeding increases in income, more people leaving the country via various means of escape, FSB increasingly overtaxed and unable to respond rapidly to a terrorist attack, Nuclear weapons "modernization" using antiquated technology, inability to defend against repeated Naval attacks by Ukraine, Defense minister public pronouncements not always reflective of reality. It's a slow burn but Russia is in a slow collapse. True the internet trolls do not publish to these facts but you can Google most of what I stated above.

Problem is Putin's 70 years old and all his inner circle hate each other. Normal dictatorship stuff. At some point it becomes a prisoner's dilema for the guys at the top, you eighter take over or someone else does and gets you executed. Agree with zero trading with Russia. It will take decades for political change in Russia to the better, if ever. If we go for zero trade, I will say it is more likely that Russia will fragment into smaller separate nations.

So where will you get your cobalt, chrome, copper, gold, lead, manganese, nickel, platinum, tungsten, vanadium, and zinc - just to name metals? You might also think about corn and wheat!

@@graemepeters5717 It can be sourced elsewhere, and should. In Norway, we are now working towards developing the mining and processing industry for our mineral resources that we have found but not yet tapped into. We are also investing alot of money in surveying for yet more minerals as we have many potentially promising geological areas for REE resources. Other countries are doing similar preparations with their resources.
The situation change, is really an eye opener. We have mislead ourselves by ignoring the tell tale signs of Putins actions the last 20 + years. His plan and goals were hammered out long before he actually annexed Crimea. So now the EU and affiliated countries are working strategically to be independant of Russia and China for supplying the tech productions that will be the cornerstone for future new tech development, innovation and consumption.
We will have to work fast, and that will have a negative impact on environment sadly. But it cannot be helped. Putin has factored that into his assumption that the EU will not be able to transition quickly enough. But It is easy to factor wrong here, and he did. We are now seeing a new nuclear power initiative from the EU. Green energy will be coming from SMR power distributed all over Europe. Reliable, protected infrastructure will benefit us all in the future, and at the same time hurt Russias very vulnerable economy.
Russia made a huge gamble, and it has already failed. They are past the point of no return, and the trajectory they find themselves in leads them hurdeling towards ruin. It is simply a question of time. They can still do much damage to the West, but it will not be able to match the resources of the combined GDPs of the West, and in the end this will be apparent to even the strongest Putin supporters, and many of them will turn their back on him. In the end there will be an internal power struggle, but the scraps they will fight over, will lead to civil unrest and turmoil will result in a deconstructed Russia fragmented into smaller states is my prediction. Maybe we will see the rebirth of former states like Pskov, Yaroslavl, Smolensk, Novgorod, Tver, Muscovy, Nizhny Novgorod to name a few in the west. In the east I think Northern Manchuria will be contested. China still views this region to be part of the Chinese "Empire", and Mongolia might have objections. It will certainly be interesting to see what emerges from the ashes.

Oh, I see the confusion. I believe you are assuming that Russia needs US/EU and we do not need Russia, right? You are in for some major disappointment mate...

@@graemepeters5717 The United States has the capability to feed ourselves plus a large percentage of the world. Have you never seen the videos of ships unloading pallets full of grain in bags labelled U.S. A.I.D.? We've been sending relief to famine victims in Africa and other areas of the world for decades. And Russia does not have a monopoly on ANY of those strategic metals. Create a demand, and the suppliers will come to fill it. Like the drug trade.
