@@sergioruiz4629 Aston Villa striker Ollie Watkins scores against Arsenal
Ollie Watkins has scored in four successive games for Aston Villa
Unai Emery's Aston Villa denied his former club Arsenal the chance to go back to the top of the Premier League as they played out a dramatic draw at Villa Park.
Villa twice went ahead through Ollie Watkins and Philippe Coutinho in the firstt half as they hosts pressed high early on.
They were pegged back by strikes from Bukayo Saka and Oleksandr Zinchenko either side of the break, but Villa's defensive strength was evident as they earned a deserved point.
Mikel Arteta's side remain level on points with Manchester City, but are now winless in three league games
There was an electric pace to the game from the off, and Villa took the lead inside five minutes through Watkins' fourth goal in as many games.
He caught the Gunners cold on the counter, latching onto Matty Cash's long pass before beating William Saliba and finishing off the far post.
It took just 11 minutes for Arsenal to respond, though. Moments after Tyrone Mings cleared Eddie Nketiah's shot onto the bar, Saka levelled with a powerful effort into the roof of the net, giving Emi Martinez no chance.
Coutinho, in for his first league start under Emery, put the hosts back in front just past the half-hour mark, rounding off a wonderful team move with a calm finish from inside the area.
On the hour, Zinchenko found space at the edge of the box and fired into the near post from a short corner, restoring parity with his first Gunners goal, before Nketiah fired over minutes later.
Odegaard missed a golden opportunity to put Arsenal ahead 14 minutes from time, sliding a shot wide after being played in Nketiah's left-hand cross, before Aaron Ramsdale denied substitute Leon Bailey n a breathless finish

It’s easy to say Xavi got it wrong in hindsight, but the goals came from Frenkie losing his marker who then played Rashford who made the run in behind, Christensen probably wouldn’t be able to stop that run either, which is probably why Kessie started to limit the defensive lapses in the midfield, that Busquets would usually cover. The other goal was a Kounde own goal and Kounde didn’t have a good game, made a lot of unforced errors, almost gave away a pen, maybe he’s more comfortable at right back now and maybe Araujo would’ve done a better job centrally, so Xavi can take the blame for that. Once Pedri got injured the game was going to be tough regardless of what subs he made, that injury was the real difference maker imo.

You realize that both goals came from the left side? And that's where the changes were made. Xavi was poor in his decision making and tactics. Everyone could see that Rashford was silent first half but second half the manager was clever to switch him to the right side where Alba and Alonso were playing and it worked. After the first goal, he was supposed to realize that and make a change to bring balde in to deal with the speed of Rashford. He just over complicated everything. You realize that man utd put pressure on De Jong by using Fred and Bruno to press him? Kessie did little to help.

In my humble opinion, Xavi got it wrong starting Alonso. I assume it was becuase Xavi expected to to dominate possession, push Alba high up and use Alonso with his natural left foot to have the full width of the field when we were building up, plus his height and physicality when defending set pieces.
That makes sense theoretically..... until you factor in that United is a unit that knows how to play on the counter; which would've pitted quicker attackers against Alonso in space. A bad call for me regardless of how you slice it.
The next thing was how long it took for him to switch Araujo and Kounde. If the initial plan was for our Uruguayan to play RB to mark Rashford on United's left. Once we saw that Rashford wasn't playing there we should've switched Araujo centrally sooner....he is a natural CB and Kounde is better in build-up play.
I would've used my Gala XI then make subs depending on the game situation.
I doubt we start Alonso vs Cadiz when that's the game he should've rested our regulars for....
Concerning the 2nd leg between injuries, suspension and iffy form I think we should switch thing up a bit.
I hope we don't attempt to dominate possession to control that game... I'd actually pull something similar to what United did first leg.... set up in a mid-block and seek to capitalize in transition. Ter Stegen, Kounde (RB), Araujo, Andreas, Balde. Then a lopsided/asymmetrical MF; aiming to create a false double pivot where FdJ is the deepest more to the left, Busi is more center-right and Roberto higher up.
For the forward line I'd go with Ansu @ LWF, Lewandowski @ CF and Raphinha @ RWF. Alba, Kessie, Ferran....... impact subs.
This second leg is likely to be a stringent test. Hopefully we do enough to advance.

So many Barcelona fans in the comments complaining and saying they should've won if it wasn't for "xavi", "refs", or if they didn't get injuries and mistakes.... Yes Xavi made a weird decision with his defense but Ten Hag predicted that Araujo would start to nullify rashford therefore starting him in the middle, the handball was not a handball... VAR checked it, was literally headed onto Freds arm (pretty sure it was above his elbow too so not handball), we had Martinez, Eriksen, Antony, Martial, Sabitzer all unavailable... Barca's 2 goals came from mistakes by United players too if you didn't realize so you got lucky too. Stop complaining, it was a fair result, both teams could've won but it was a draw.

Busquets will be available for old traford, so, although he has lost a lot of offensive potential, that doesn't necessarily mean that he will lose control of the midfield, for sure he will have changes because there is no other profile that can be as flexible as gavi as a false winger, maybe a 4-3-3 with ansu and raphina as more traditional wingers or the same scheme as before but with pablo torre and kessie as far as the key of this team is the superiority on the midfield, we will see today against cadiz what xavi is preparing for today's game, maybe he will give us some clues for Old Traford.
Postdata: Maybe is a strange decision of xavi, but Marcos Alonso's father died recently, and maybe the decision of using Marcos instead of Christensen is more an emotional decision rather than tactical, they were playing in Camp Nou and his father was once a Barça player so maybe that match was important for him that's why he celebrate pointing to the sky when he scored the goal, maybe is not the reason and it's purely a rotational thing, but also maybe that decision has that context.

      1. The person who brings control into the game is Pedri hence if you want to free De jong play him close to Pedri and not Kessie even though in this game Kessi tried.Kessie can play on the right interior because he is good in attacking.
      2. Playing Aruajo on the right was a poor tactical decision.Rashford usually scores his goals from Central positions hence to stop Rashford you needed Aruajo in the CB position so thar whether he gets past the RB or the LCB he will still be at Aruajo’s reach.Playing Aruajo on the right was just giving Rashford freedom.
      3. Christensen is not only important defensively but also in the buildup, he is a ball playing CB who is very crucial in the way we build up and also he is a good long passer which is effective in turnovers.
      4. Taking out Raphinha was a terrible decision as this game the way it was unfolding suited him perfectly.
      5. Balde is not just good in wing play but he is good in take-ons and in bursts of play hence without him you lack those quick turnovers and anyway Alba was off form he miscrossed a lot of balls.

@@goat9295 si. Look. I watched Arsenal pin back and completely control United for 45 minutes. Literally it felt like they could will a goal into existence. Barca's players are of a similar level of quality (maybe better) but they couldn't do that.

Xavi is horrible in making changes / rotations. The way this man loves Alonso, yet he is consistently the weakest link in defence. Xavi does well in laliga but struggles in Europe whether it’s UCL or Europa. To me this highlights his poor tactics, we all knew this squad is good enough to win La Liga with pretty much any manager. Europe is different because that’s where coaches earn their money, and Xavi is being exposed there.

@Random User We are playing in EL two years in a row under him that didn't happen even with Koemen or Setien even tho Xavi got better players. He has yet to win against a big club in europe we played Bayern, Inter, Benfica, Manchester and he didn't win any game against thease clubs. In the match against Manchester he did so many things wrong if they had a good striker we would be out of the competition

Of course the narrator would cope by saying Barca were not taking chances when everything in the game was set up for Barca.
They are great in LA Liga, because they're great in general, but it's la Liga.
Inter beat Barca, and their sucking hard in the serie A
United were also far away from their best and lacked even more key players
