    My ' 94 is an old and beat-up pawn shop find that drew my attention because of the ridiculously low price for a Winchester. The ONLY ammo I've found that it likes is the LeverEvolution. Using a Skinner sight I can get heart-sized groups with little variation in elevation from 15 to 100 yards. It has literally saved my rifle from getting traded off again, and has made it my go-to gun for white tail.

      I can tell the same story only my 1957 m94 was already performing quite well. I tried these and found my 94 loved these long time. Even better accuracy, and i noticed a little more umpf went i shot them. Surprisingly my Marlin 336 didn’t really see any improvement in accuracy. Ah well poor old Marlin always a bridesmaid never a bride.

    I used this load out of a marlin 336 BL that has an 18-1/2" barrel to kill a nice 8 point buck. He was around 50yds away in scrub oak so yeah I hit him on the third shot (branches were flying) right behind the shoulder and he only went about Reyes then fell.the bullet didn't exit but it was right under the skin in the off side, I cut it out and it was just the core, but it weighed 100grs. I know a lot of people think that's bullet failure but it killed that buck (160lbs live weight, guesstimate ) very efficiently. Hornady makes great stuff, I'm a handloader but see no need to for the 30-30, especially with this ammo! Thanks mason, you rock!

    My 1970's Marlin Model 336, .30-30, 16" Trapper (microgroove barrel) hates this ammo.....4 inch groups at 50 yards! It had a lot of factory and press hype when it came out a while ago, so I had great expectations when I tried it. Higher velocity and flatter shooting than conventional .30-30 ammo. It would be good on whitetails and hogs if your rifle shoots it accurately. My rifle loves the 150 and 170 grain Federal Fusions, so I'll stick with them. Thanks for the great videos!

Due to time restraints, when she turned enough that I thought I could slip one past the hip into the ribs to angle up through the vitals, I took the shot, but the bullet entered the hip and angled forward through the vitals and exited the body just ahead of the off shoulder. I've used this ammo since it came out. Great accuracy out of my Marlin and really puts a thump on 'em. The bullet will shed it's core on up close shots (like 15 yards) or when hitting something like a neck bone, but before it does, it will wreck havoc. I've never lost anything I've shot with this ammo. I've also taken my furthest deer with this 30-30 ammo (my furthest with any rifle come to think about it), a doe at 183 yards. She jumped and tried to run but called it quits after 30 yards.

    • @drboone357
      @drboone357 Před 7 měsíci

      The monoflex is garbage in the 30-30. The rounds do not adhere to the rifling like a typical jacketed bullet. This increases chamber pressures with the 140gr monoflex. That means you get lower velocities than a typical 140gr jacketed round.

    Took a nice doe last Fall in Texas out of my Marlin 336. Hand loaded with these 160gr FTX’s. And my goodness, it was insane. Quartered away at about 45yds, the round completely exploded the right lung, the tissue damage done to the left lung could’ve been considered a double lung shot. And it exited low left of her neck, but not before that round severed her carotid artery and crushed her wind pipe. She ran 9 yards and went lights out within 10 seconds. I will probably never switch from these rounds after seeing how amazing they performed. Now to see if they will perform the same on a big Northern Idaho Whitetail!

    I've always been a .35 Rem fan. I'm generally a contraian and because the .30-30 Win was always so popular I avoided it. The FTX bullets did better than what I expected. I have seen many instances from hunters where the FTX failed to hold together making it less dependable than the regular cup and core bullet. The advantage with the FTX is the better G1 ballistic performance for lever actions. For us reloaders the FTX bullet and brass can cause some issues unless you have the specific Hornady dies and trimmers.

    Enjoy your videos. Tells a lot about ammo. I have my dad's Savage 340 in 30-30. It is amazingly accurate. A couple of years ago I took it back out and with the old style Win Silvertips from ? years ago, it would consistently put 3 shots in under an inch at 100 yds...yes, consistently. Purchased a box of the Hornady load you just tested. It would not chamber without really forcing the bolt to close. Called Hornady about it and they had never had such a situation before. I traded that box off for some cheeper ammo which easily chambered. The gun is accurate enough that it could do well with that ammo. I have loaded the 150 Hornady spitzer but had to cut the tip back in order to fit in the magazine. It was long ago so I don't recall how accurate it was, but would not have allowed my son to use it if it had been inaccurate. He took one deer with it; at very short range quite handily. After seeing your video, I am tempted to pick up another box of these Hornady LE in case the first box I purchased had been defective for some reason. Thanks for the info.

    I shoot these bullets from my bolt action 30/30. Good accuracy but not any better than Federal powershoks.

    They drop on impact, killed many deer with this round. I've used Winchester ammo and seen them run off.

      why would they not be safe??

    • @bigdogford1
      @bigdogford1 Před 10 měsíci

      I do know horndy says not to shoot them out of older 30-30, because there loaded pretty hot, so some of the older 30-30 can't handle the pressure, but other than that yes completely safe

      @@bigdogford1 really? I have an old savage 340A bolt action 30-30. Should these not be used?

      @zzz7zzz9 my uncle has one and shots them just fine, but still something to look up, I really think it's just a way for them to cover there butts, because there are a still a lot of 30-30 being used that where built in the early 1900s and where not designed for our powder we use today, much less a hot round
