- The Savage Model 64 and other small caliber and limited Breech firearms can be difficult to properly clean the barrel from breech to muzzle - in this video I demonstrate a method of using Otis pull-through cleaning cables to effectively carbon fouling effectively in the direction bullets travel to avoid pushing all that crud back into the action and firing mechanism of your rifle without disassembly.

This rifle has to be disassembled to be properly cleaned, which is a PITA. Yes, it's dirt cheap, but tedious to clean. This is why the Savage bolt action has the advantage. It costs about $70 more but it is well worth it.
A complete disassembly video is on the “to-do” video board for me. Should be done this summer
@@MudLakeRanch I wish there was some way to clean the rifle without the complete disassembly. Maybe just spray the bolt and blow dry it out with an air compressor.
Great video. Your cleaning process is very similar to what I've been doing with my rifle. I have a 50 year old Winchester 190 tube fed semi-auto 22lr with a limited breech. It's a pain in the butt to tear it down so I bought the Otis Patriot series kit that included the cable, brushes for limited breech 22lr, and round patches. I had the same problem as you did with the Otis limited breech brush not fitting into the action. I discovered on my rifle that although the bolt is locked open, there is still a bit of space for it to travel further back. So when I am pulling the cable thru with the brush on it, I will pull my bolt handle back just a little bit further from its locked open position and the brush would then clear the action.
Awesome! I’ll see if that gains enough space on mine
I appreciate the detail of your comment too, thank you!
You're welcome. I watched the video again and it seems you do have some space behind the charging handle that might allow you to get the brush in by pulling it beyond the hold open position. Good luck.
Thanks for the Informative Video. New Subscriber. Cheers..🙏
Thank you. I appreciate it!

@@MudLakeRanch thanks. The one I got was a different brand Sweet accurate rifles
This does almost nothing for cleaning this model savage rifle.
The bolt is what gets dirty, the bolt needs cleaned. The bolt needs to be removed to be cleaned. Remove the bolt. It's just 2 allen screws on the bottom and a bolt for the barrel to come out.
Thanks! We’ll do a disassembly cleaning later.
This type of cleaning works. They start malfunctioning when they get so dirty in the chamber This tyoe if cleaning usually does the trick.
