Baba O'Riley was released on 1971 classic album Who's Next. The title is derived from the combination of the song's philosophical and musical influences, Meher Baba and Terry Riley, and describes the scenes Pete Townshend witnessed during the Who's legendary performance at the Woodstock Festival.

Lyrics:
Out here in the fields
I fight for my meals
I get my back into my living.
I don't need to fight
To prove I'm right
I don't need to be forgiven.
yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
Don't cry
Don't raise your eye
It's only teenage wasteland
Sally, take my hand
We'll travel south cross land
Put out the fire
And don't look past my shoulder.
The exodus is here
The happy ones are near
Let's get together
Before we get much older.
Teenage wasteland
It's only teenage wasteland.
Teenage wasteland
Oh, yeah
Its only teenage wasteland
They're all wasted!

For 1971, the use of synthesizer in this one is downright revolutionary, it's so well done
Synthesizers were just barely viable in the early 70s, it shows they were very up to date with technology at the time.

That line always makes me cry. It reminds me of those dark days of living in poverty and actually having to fight people just to get a bite to eat.

"I fought for my meals."
Why did I feel like crying when I heard that?
I just randomly started thinking about the lyrics earlier today, especially about this part. I've probably heard this song 100 times thruout my life, and never really thought too much about it. Seems, to me, like the kind of thing you only come to understand when you are more mature. I had visions of ancient British soldiers being paid in food/shelter which is pretty amazingly shitty compared to the deal we have with our masters these days. Life was cheap up until somewhat recently. Still cheap depending on what part of the planet you inhabit. Not sure what else to say. Let us be greatfull for what we have.
Such a great song, a masterpiece and an anthem of their generation and of those difficult times. A hypnotizing song, so touching, so deep and so great, beyond compare, for each time you hear it it just takes you away with it, and it gives you chills down your spine each time, each time...Great band!! Legends!!
+Alice Stanescu hey do you know in which year did the scene from 3:18 occur and what were people into having long hairstyles without shaving ??
8440k It was in 1969, at Woodstock, for sure, it was The Flower Power period, and all young people had long hair and mustaches and beards as a sign of freedom and liberty, and many of them were wearing flowers in their hair and also flowered clothes just to be free and closer to all nature's beautiful elements.
Alice Stanescu Thanks a lot for the information I also heard that some of those people used this outfit to make a drug camp or something any idea whether this was true ??
+Alice Stanescu This song couldn't be more accurate in todays hectic times... I mean, we have reached a level of communication, which was never achieved before, but we forgot to speak to each other. This is true sadness and a "teenage wasteland"... but that's just the tip of the iceberg and people won't realize this until the true "exodus is near"
