    Great introduction song to begin your Spiritbox journey with. To get an idea of the awesome singing talent Courtney LaPlante has. I would suggest checking out one of her live one take performances. "Circle With Me" or "Rule Of Nines". You should most definitely check out the song that launched Spiritbox onto the mainstage Holy Roller. This song is 100% harsh vocals no clean vocals.

      People need to hear the original versions first before any of the one takes.

      @@dropthehammer1360 I disagree !! The two live one take tracks I suggested are released directly from the bands own Official site. Free from any record labels editing or splicing. With the sole purpose of highlighting their singers (Courtney LaPlante) extraordinary talents. The official videos released by the record labels (Pale Cord Music and Riserecords) are great production videos. They have been manipulated by engineers and producers.

    Courtney does all types of screams (and clean singing). This style is my favorite because it's more of a natural voice scream so you still hear her voice in it. She's done some one take performances of a few songs, and live in studio takes, that you might enjoy. The most popular are probably her one takes of Circle With Me and Rule of Nines. I also think her live recording of their first song The Beauty of Suffering is something more people should check out. She's come a long way since then, but she always brings a lot of energy.

    Tatiana and Cort are very different singers. They get compared because they are both metalcore women singers. But the similarity ends there. Tatiana has wide range and the band is very experimental. Courtney and Mike bring more of a R&B and folk rock into their metalcore influences meaning their music feels more accessible which is probably why they were nominated for a Grammy for this song. Jinjer is an amazing band. Courtney would probably say Tatiana is a way better singer. But every song Courtney writes could be another band's hit song. And that is probably why Spiritbox is blowing up because everyone can get into them even people who don't like metal.

      They are both proggy aswell (atleast older Spiritbox) Jinjer is to monotone for me meaning there are no surprises in the same way as Sleep Token.

    Great Video!! You may see that many in the Metal community have strong feelings on which of these 2 bands they prefer and while they are both very talented, they are quite different. Courtney does "Fry" scream more than Tati does, but she can hit low gutteral growls too. They do a funny thing in Spiritbox videos where they don't show Courtney actually screaming. Once you watch her one take performances you will see how much she twists and contorts her face and they purposely don't have her do that for these. Spiritbox's strength is that they are more radio friendly than Jinjer and are closer to music many already listen to. That's not to say they don't get heavy, because they do, but many may take to Spiritbox quicker. Check out "Rule of Nines" one take, "Blessed Be", and "Rotoscope". Also I would love to hear your thoughts on J-Metal, where the entire bands are female, not just the singer. While similar to what you have heard, they are also wildly different. Take a look at Hanabie, "We Love Sweets". I guarantee you won't be disappointed

    @iamjatan Před 6 měsíci +3

    They sound different because they are using a different vocal technique. Tatiana is using False Cord whereas Courtney is using Vocal Fry, they're basically both still applying distortion to their vocal but it's done in a different part of the throat and wields slightly different results.
    I've been a vocalist for about 25 years and with Fry I've always found you can hold notes longer, you can get a lot more of your natural voice through it (like Courtney is doing in this song) and can even apply an underlayer of pitch to it (Joel from Gojira is great at this) whereas False Cord gives you that much more guttural, toilet bowl kinda sound more akin to Deathcore acts like Lorna Shore.

    Courtney can do all that Tatiana can do and better in my opinion. Her cleans are mesmerizing at times. Each song is different with Courtney vocally, and yes, Courtney's has very good diction when she screams and growls. You should check out; "The Beauty Of Suffering" and "Blessed Be" by Spiritbox as well. They really show off Courtney's vocal range.

    Courtney is amazing! The queen of scream. To me Spiritbox a bit heavier and at the same time softer than Jinjer. I hate to compare because they are both brilliant! It's an extreme shift from one extreme to the other though. If you want to see how soft they can be listen to Constance. If you want to see the heaviest stuff check out Holy Roller, Cellar Door, and Belcarra. You will not regret it.

    Courtney LaPlante, also former vocalist of Iwrestledabesronce lol

  • @bradkohl99
    @bradkohl99 Před 6 měsíci +1

    Two different vocal harsh vocal styles. Technique wise, Courtney’s harsh stuff, each syllable is a clean tone that adds distortion, which is why you have an easier time understanding what she’s performing.
    Even their cleans are wildly different. Courtney’s cleans are smooth and rich, like molasses, whereas Tatiana’s are more like what you would expect from a popstar like Britney Spears.
    If you want to hear an exclusively heavy Spiritbox song, Cellar Door is a good one. The instrumentation is intentionally off beat from each other at times, giving this sense of chaos which gave me an uneasy feeling in my stomach (in a good way).

    She's lip syncing in the music video (most do), she just doesn't always make an angry face, it threw me off the first time I saw a video of her doing this and I wonder if that's why she does it.
