Winter Car Detailing Tips to Avoid Rust on Wheels Porsche Macan

  • This is my Porsche Macan that collected salt from the first winter storm of the year and I hadn't yet done my Winter protection routine on what I refer to as the "Arm Pits" of my car. Although there are many Winter Car Detailing Tips, these are just a few of the cleaning tips I used to avoid or minimize the chance of inducing rust in the forgotten areas of the Porsche Macan. I coated the wheels in AMMO Gelee Pro Wheel and Metal Coat as well as the calipers, suspension, and exhaust pipes. This process should be done on your car before winter and after winter to ensure salt water does not sit for too long in these arm-pit areas. Hope this helps. Stay warm! -Larry

I've been purchasing more AMMO products from Larry lately because the quality and performance is 2nd to none. The craptastic winter weather here in SE Wisconsin has taking a toll on my OCD. AMMO products have extremely helped my '20 Edge ST stand out among the salty, grimy cars I drive by everyday. I feel I've been getting dirty looks by other drivers cuz my suv is so clean in 9` weather 😁😄😄

It's like he's teaching you but at the same time you're like his buddy in journeys like these. Such a fun drive, won't be bored in videos like this even if you're not a car geek or detailing guy. Very much appreciated work, Larry!

If you want to prevent rust on the rockers, you need to coat the INSIDE with oil. They generally don’t rust from the outside, but rather from the inside out. If you see visible rust on the outside, it’s a mess inside. Same goes for doors, frame rails, body panels, etc. Coating the outside is great, but you have to protect the inside. Inner cavities will sweat like a can of soda pulled from your fridge when exposed to changes in temperature. Humidity in the air can also introduce condensation into panels. Oil ensures that whatever moisture is present gets displaced from the metal surface, thus preventing rust from forming.

@@MyMemesAreTerrible If you used an aerosol can of Fluid film or equivalent oil, there’s nozzles that have long straws with a fan tip. You pull one or two of the rubber plugs in the side of the door, feed the straw in as far as you can, then pull it out slowly while you spray. You’ll get a pretty even coating doing it that way. Check out “RepairGeek” here on YT, he has good videos on the various products and techniques.

We have a very well equiped manual car cleaner in town, I can go there 0-24 and have all the tools to do the job myself. I like to go there every week, for once I like my car clean but the other purpose is what you mentioned, it is just so relaxing, I can switch off a little bit.

Your definitely not crazy…..Detailing my vehicles has been my “therapy” for years , especially while I was working. It was the best way to get away and try to forget about what I had seen the shifts before!! I even kept my patrol vehicle extremely detailed and organized, just one sign of many of being professional at what I did and being thankful for being given a vehicle to use that was paid for by others….

Yes, cleaning and detailing your car is definitely helpful with stress. I've always considered it my meditation.

Awesome. Can’t wait until dry ice blasters become more affordable. I think that kind of equipment would be useful for this kind of detailing.
I’ve found that the foaming tire cleaner gloss sprayed in the wheel wells and areas that that get a lot of salt spray in the winter absolutely stops rust. Then in the spring you can clean it off

I would love more contents like this from you Larry, maybe a longer wash and talk video which would be much more therapeutic 😆

Will be doing this in the spring. My car is 10 years old and not rusty surprisingly but underneath can use a good pressure wash, cleaning and protecting on the metal bits. I did notice the buildup underneath when swapping over to my winter tires so once the weather improves this is priority number 1.
