    Awesome video, thanks for all the information on these gorgeous fish!
    I got a channa pulchra a week or 2 ago. A juvenile of around 10-12cm. I keep it in a 450l tank, sand substrate, internal eheim filter (1000l/h). So far he or she is doing great, just found a type of pellets that it'll eat as well. I do however have a question on feeding. How often do you feed yours? Is it for example better to feed a little bit every day or better one nice, big meal every 2-3 days. I'm curious what regiment you use as mine always seems hungry and will eat his/her belly nice and round. So i don't think I can go by the fish's apetite as an indicator :D

    • @ChannaScaping
      @ChannaScaping  Před rokem +2

      They will eat until they literally kill themselves, so best not to go by their hunger as a gauge😂. For the juveniles i will feed a little bit every day, with a pulchra about 10-12cm i would drop down to a few pellets three times a week. Channa honestly look their best when they are slimmer and when they are round and plump its not a great look. My friend who has a large Channa Aurantimaculata (45 cm) only feeds his once a month and its in radiant health although that might be a bit extreme! Resist the temptation to feed them even when they are begging at the glass and in the long run will overall be better for your pulchra.😁

    I have a channa ornatipinnis yellow lips in a bare bottom tank with artificial creepers at the bottom for hiding and water lettuce on top...i m afraid to use substrate as I m not sure about certain things.. please tell me how often do you make water changes and what percentage of water do you change? I am also confused about gravel vacuuming..how often do we vacuum the gravel?..i am scared that the food particles left in the substrate will pollute the water or will become a cause for bacterial or fungal infection...pl. help... For example,in a tank of 3/2/2-4/2/2 ft. With a stewarti or orna,how should we do the maintenance...the stewarti tank has gravel, driftwood,rocks and water lettuce on top ...pl. share your experience and help me know what kind of maintenance routine works best for channa with a tank with gravel and a lot of rocks driftwood and hiding spaces...

    • @ChannaScaping
      @ChannaScaping  Před 2 lety +2

      For my Channa tanks, its 30% every two weeks. If you change too much they sometimes go into a kind of shock and refuse to eat for a few days. If you can see your tank is visibly dirty though, you can suck out the food waste before scheduled water changes. I have tanks which are bare bottom, which have gravel, sand and soil and if you want easy maintenance I would say stick with bare botton. Its easier to clean but it is initially more difficult to get the water cycled as less media and space for good bacteria to breed in the the tank. Sometimes my bare bottom tanks have bacterial bloom for weeks after setup which never happens with those which have substrate. If you choose to use substrate, I would say choose a sand over gravel as gravel collects more food waste in the spaces in between it, but with sand you can more easily suck it from the top of the surface. See this vid for what i mean: czcams.com/video/vBfU1vk5zfY/video.html. I wont use gravel or lava rock anymore after my experiences with the substrate becoming very dirty and causing problems. Its fine for other fish like nano fish who eat less but not for carnivorous fish I feel. I will either use sand or bare bottom now.

    • @ChannaScaping
      @ChannaScaping  Před 7 měsíci +1

      to be safe, I would go for five minimum. Even more if you can afford it. I think that tank size is great for a group like. It wont be big enough when they are all old but by then, hopefully you will already have a pair and the others will have been recmoved.

If I put 5 channa in 240 liters won't that be too much?? each fish is about 30 cm long and my aquarium is 120 x 40 cm and for now I don't care if a couple comes out.... 4 fish won't be enough??

    • @ChannaScaping

      Sometimes it works, usually it doesn't. Silver gar and the pulchra may fight or the catfish may be attacked. Channa are usually best left in species only tanks
