      That means a lot! Thank you so much! And just so you're aware, even if you were to get a cumulative score of around 62% on the HuG Exam, that should roughly equivalate to the minimum score needed to earn a 5 on the exam, so I'm sure you did much better than you might think! But best of luck!

    can you explain to me how all of these students [not you] with perfect GPA's still only get 3's and the occasional 4 of their AP's?

    • @ZacharyMcCormick11
      @ZacharyMcCormick11  Před 3 lety +51

      JamesJoyce12 well as much as I hate to admit it, one’s AP exam scores don’t always serve as an accurate measurement of one’s intelligence or aptitude (much like many other standardized test scores). A lot of it comes down to knowing how to take the test, rather than knowing the content, if that makes sense. That’s why, when I’m studying for these exams, I spend a lot of time looking at the AP course and exam descriptions and the past FRQs. That way, I know what to expect on exam day. Getting that 4 or 5 on the AP exam often comes down to knowing how the exams are graded and formatted, and not solely on content memorization. I’d also argue that, in some cases (but certainly not all), some students are naturally gifted and think that they’ll do just fine on an AP exam without needing to study, since they typically get good grades with minimal effort. But that’s something completely separate. That’s just my take on that. That is a fantastic question! Thanks for asking :)

    • @tyler89557
      @tyler89557 Před 3 lety +18

      The AP exam is 1 part memorizing the content of the course and 2 parts knowing how the exam is graded (i.e. knowing rubrics).
      Also, the exams are a bullshit cashgrab that 2020 made blatantly obvious (of course I'm still taking them regardless because... I want to go to college.)
      But yeah, case in point, the AP exams aren't entirely indicative of how much someone knows the material. That aspect is there, but there's a really large part of you just being able to game the system by knowing how tests are graded.

    • @ZacharyMcCormick11
      @ZacharyMcCormick11  Před 3 lety +8

      Sorry for the late reply, but it definitely depends on the subject matter, as each and every AP Exam is structured differently. If you want information on a specific one, just let me know. Otherwise, if you’re looking for more general advice, I’d say that success on the AP Exams is not so much derived from your knowledge of the content matter in comparison to knowing how to take the test. Much like any other standardized test, you need to study “to the test.” Merely by growing more familiar with the way in which questions are structured and graded, you’ll probably be pretty well-prepared for the exam(s) you’re planning on taking. Honestly, in my opinion, the best way to study for the AP Exams is to look over the AP Course and Exam Description for the course you’re studying for. It contains all of the content and general ideas that will be covered on the exam. Other than that, I’d say just give yourself time to prepare, pace yourself, and try to avoid cramming, although that’s easier said than done, I’m aware lol. I hope this helps!

    How did you study for these?? How early do you recommend to start preparing? Also was micro an easy course?

    • @ZacharyMcCormick11
      @ZacharyMcCormick11  Před 3 lety +41

      Most of my studying was from my AP prep books that I bought, but of course, how I studied varied slightly depending on the course. For example, for calc, micro, and physics, I did a lot of practice problems, but for exams like US history and government, most of my studying came from my review books. I would definitely recommend preparing a couple months ahead of time, even though I didn’t do that for some of my exams (aka art history 😂). If you’re self-studying though, you might want to start a little sooner though, since you won’t be receiving any in-class instruction. And I found micro to be relatively easy, but I can’t speak for the course itself since I self-studied for the exam. But yes, the content for micro was not challenging at all. I can make a video on how to study (or self-study) for AP exams and/or how to get a 5 on micro if that would be of interest to you. Hope this helps!

    How should I go about preparing to be successful in AP Physics 1?

    • @ZacharyMcCormick11
      @ZacharyMcCormick11  Před 3 lety +2

      Well, I’d definitely recommend the Princeton Review book to help you prepare for that exam. It was a fantastic resource for me! Also, do plenty of practice FRQs from the past AP Exams, just so that you can get a feel for what you’ll be asked to do on exam day. Also, know how to algebraically manipulate the AP Physics 1 formulas because oftentimes you’ll be asked to either derive a formula or calculate something on the FRQs that requires you to do that, so just know that there will be a good amount of calculation and algebra you’ll be held responsible for as well. While you will also see some calculation-type questions on the multiple-choice section as well, a good chunk of that portion of the test is more conceptual in nature, so make sure that you don’t just know the formulas (which are still important; don’t get me wrong), but that you also know how they apply and how to explain the course concepts in words (and not just mathematically). If I can ever be of any assistance in any of the content of the course in particular, just let me know.

      Oh no haha, I'd still recommend taking some classes that you find enjoyable; however, if certain AP courses interest you, then yeah, I would definitely try them out! I don't take AP courses for all of the AP exams that I take. My school doesn't even offer 10 periods in a regular school day, so in 2020, I'd been able to take 10 AP exams because I took 6 AP classes through my school and self-studied for 4 of them that year.
