      @@Dai.Natreacts Agreed, to people who haven't read the books, it may seem weird to see katniss and peeta show the skills they do with out the context of peeta whipping her and haymitch into shape before the second games and the military training she goes thorough in the mockingjay books, that they don't show in the upcoming movies.

    I loved how in the first movie/book, Katniss saw Prim in Rue. Now in this one, she says she sees Rue in Prim. Rue's death changed her forever because it showed her that even though she'd saved Prim, little girls who were just like her were still being sent to the Games and dying in them. Katniss had only saved one of them.

    Something they rarely address is that Peeta lost his leg from the first movie cause it was infected, so him being even slower and a little more clumsy is exactly what would happen. However, the books talk about how Peeta pushed himself, Katniss, and Haymitch to do daily work outs and training in the months leading up to the reaping after they found out they’d be going back in. And it’s not shown, but the final cannon and death at the end of the movie was Peeta killing the giant bald Career guy from District 2. So he’s strong and a good fighter, the movies just don’t make that clear enough for some reason.
    The reason why a lot of fans prefer Katniss and Peeta together instead of Katniss and Gale is cause Peeta’s warm and comforting presence is exactly what Katniss, being so cold and serious, really needs. In the context of this story, opposites not only attract but they balance each other out. Katniss comments in the book how Gale is pure rage and stubbornness and she has enough of that as is.

      @uggggggghhhhh Před rokem +7

      Really great comment! I always forget Peeta lost his leg when I rewatch these (I read the books before the films came out)
      Also, if anyone is interested in more book stuff and the relationships (no spoilers) it isnt supposed to be a romance story, it was just marketed like that probably to get more readers since its aimed at young girls (says a lot about us because we too, want a romance just how the capitol does in the first movie).
      The point of the books was that its set in a dystopian world, there isnt always a happy ending in real life, her winning in movie 1 wasnt a happy ending because it gave her ptsd, took peetas leg and killed Rue. The author wasn't a fan of fans rooting for one relationship (for example team jacob or team edward) either.
      Katniss did not want to be a hero, she just wanted to help her sister and nothing she did was for the purpose of taking down the government. The berries werent a choice made to inspire the country to revolt but her personal choice to not play along and kill someone (Peeta) for their entertainment. Its conflicting because even us, in the first movie that is, are confused about whether or not they're really pretending lol
      Katniss is deeply traumatized as we see in this movie so it isnt about 'who is better, Peeta or Gale?' but rather 'who isnt the absolute worst?' which reflects the society they live in: making the best with what theyve got in the worst of times. I also feel like theres a whole lot of trauma bonding.
      Even Katniss says to Gale, in this movie, that there are more important things than Gale being jealous about her fake relationship with Peeta. And Haymitch says to Katniss "Nobody ever wins the games" as well. So i guess, my point is just that the books arent written to be perfect and happy. Sort of like 1984.
      Its what I love about these movies and the books, it totally delivered much more than I thought it would and it was able to touch on subjects without directly spelling it out for you, it wants you to do the deep thinking. In life in general, you can't have the light without the dark.
      It isnt that relevant to the reaction but just something to think about.

    • @babs3241
      @babs3241 Před rokem +11

      @@breezymango4113 My suspicion is that, after Twilight, they wanted to have a more plausible "Love triangle" than the books had, so that they could have "Team Peeta" and "team Gale" as opposed to the books, which were much more about whether or not Katniss would allow herself to love anyone. So they undercut Peeta at every point. Their take on the bread scene was so bad that almost every reactor misses the point, and I talked to someone IRL and told him what really happened and he stared, dumbfounded, and said, "I'd never suspect that!" And yet, Katniss's behavior at every turn is based on her admiration, almost idolization, of Peeta, because she feels that he keeps saving her life and holds onto his soul, while she feels like she's always owing him.
      The movies did really well, actually, but they made some really odd decisions, maybe for the sake of simplification that doesn't really work with the story--like missing that Caesar is actually really attentive to the tributes and genuinely likes them, particularly Peeta, or that Katniss actually likes and respects Effie, or... well, things that come in the next two movies that unmuddy the waters a little too much, making certain things Katniss canonically does seem... weird.

    13:07 “don’t throw the 3’s they gonna kill ya‘ll” that had me laughing lol. IT’s unfortunately not explained in the first film, but the 3 fingers salute is a gesture that was only ever used in District 12 where Katniss lives. She describes it in the first book -“an old and rarely used gesture of our district, occasionally seen at funerals. It means thanks, it means admiration, it means goodbye to someone you love“ so because the gesture originated in District 12, the people of District 12 are “allowed” to use it. When Rue dies in the first film and gives the salute as she walks away, that’s the first time other districts saw it (aside from when all of 12 gave Katniss the salute after volunteering for Prim). Rues implied dad uses the gesture and the rest of 11 follows suit turning it into basically a symbol for Justice and anti-capitol. So 12 can still use it since it originated there, but any other district using it, it is seen as a show of disrespect of the capitol. Hope that clears up the salute. Really wish they covered that in the first film since the salute becomes so prominent throughout the series. I am LOVING you guys reactions and so glad I had stumbled onto your channel. Just over the last week looks like you guys have grown a lot. You both have great personalities and really pay attention to the films, it’s much appreciated! They did actually address the forcefields in the book. Katniss and Peeta spent the last day before the interview just as a day off, and invented a game where they threw things into the forcefield on the training center roof. They'd also watched Haymitch's games, in which he used the forcefield of the arena to kill the last tribute in his field, when she threw an axe at him and it bounced back on the forcefield and hit her. Katniss just didn't see the forcefield in time and the arena was smaller than they thought.

However, in the Capitol, the citizens have been raised with such privilege and disdain for the Districts that they don't fully grasp what is at stake for those people, and the District citizens only watch each year because it's the law (basically Snow saying "You caused this by rebelling back in the day, so watching this is your punishment, and you will be grateful that we're only killing 1 or 2 of your kids instead of all of you.")

    18:41 - the dress “like a mockingjay”. It’s not discussed in the films, but in the books we learn the mockingjay only exists because of a capitol mistake. They had created a species of birds called jabberjays that would listen to the people of the districts and could repeat what they said to the capitol. The people caught on and started feeding false information to the jabberjays. The capitol found out and got so mad they tried to exterminate the entire jabberjays species. The few remaining jabberjays mated with the already existing mocking birds, and created the new species of mockingjays. In the book, Katniss says “the very existence of mockingjays is a slap in the face to the capitol” because it showcases their spying failure. Still loving your guys thoughts on this, this 2nd movie is so good, sticks to the book alot more than the first one does. On to continue again lol

      so, like katniss with the berries, he outsmarted the capitol and didn't play after their rules. they view it as an act of defiance, and that is that. though, this is not why they kill his entire family, they started with just one person as a warning to tell them they mean business. other actions of his post-games are the reason he ended up entirely alone, in the end. the next book touches on it in more detail and the movie mentions it but you'd have to look for it to make the connection back to haymitch so i won't say any more than this.
      i gotta say, though, the significance of the force field for both the second and third quarter quell is a beautiful thing of irony. the thing meant to contain them and keep them trapped ending up the thing that allowes them to survive and escape? what a cosmic joke that must feel like to snow.

    commenting as i watch but it’s interesting that you said along the lines of “put something on tv people don’t care what they watch as long as it’s entertainment” the country name of Panem is taken from the latin phrase panem et circenses “bread and circuses” meaning as long as you give people food and entertainment you can do whatever to them you can control them

      and it is partly inspired by gladiators that’s why a lot of capitol citizens have roman/greek names: brutus, enobaria, caesar, euphemia (effie). the series was inspired when the author was channel flipping between reality tv and war coverage

    1) People are quick to hate on District 1, but it's important to remember that they are victims too. each district is tortured a different way. In district 1 they are expected/required to live in opulence and excess. They know that most other districts are starving, but they are made to eat to the point of making themselves sick and pretending they are happy. When they don't fall in line they get turned into the capital and made into Avoxes (people that are tortured and then have their tongues cut out and forced into servitude) or worse...mutts. Think of Effie, woman that draw the tributes' names at the reaping. Her and the TV host...they have a job to do and that is to make these grotesque moments FEEL like entertainment or else. EVERYONE is scared, even the Presidents' own family members. The games are NOT "entertainment". The citizens of Panem are ALL terrified of their government because they know the grotesque and twisted things it does to people. They watch the games because they wanna see their people and try to support them if/when they can. Being a sponsor demands a lot of money so the sponsor gifts are rare, but people try. You have to watch the games to see what will be needed.
    2) Haymitch was one of District 12's winners. He's an alcoholic because he was a winner when he was 16 and since then has been required to be the mentor of countless tributes only to see them ALL die for nearly 24 years. He’d won his Games by using the force field against the Capitol. Though it was a Capitol creation, Haymitch was able to use it to his advantage and win the Games with it. The Victors receive income from the Capitol for life, are given a special status in their districts and are allowed to live in the wealthiest part of their district called the Victors' Village with their families. Their District is given supplies of food and other things to survive, while the lone victor (except of The 74th Hunger Games since there is 2 victors) is bathed in riches. Most of them become very popular all throughout all of Panem. The Capital, however, can summon victors whenever they want and make demands on them. This is clarified later and in more detail later.

      Haymitch was the only winner of the Hunger Games from district 12 ever, until Katniss and Peeta. I think you meant to say that he was young at 16, not that he was the youngest from district 12. In the 74 years of the Hunger Games’ existence, only Haymitch, Katniss and Peeta have won from district 12. That’s why Effie only was one name to pull from the bowl representing girls and only two from the bowl for guys for the 75th game.

    • @Lele_Annie
      @Lele_Annie Před rokem +8

      @@pamelahofman1785 In the movie Haymitch mentions there was another winner from district 12 before him, I also request you read Ballad of songbirds and snakes which is a prequel to the hunger games book, which follows Snows story and rise to power. Lucy Gray Baird was the FIRST district 12 winner, winning the 10th games with the help of young Snow. She also composed the hanging tree song Katniss sings in mokingjay and if i'm not wrong she's the original owner of the mokingjay pin Katniss wears. Lucy " disappeared" a short while after she won and is probably dead and that is why in the 75th hunger games reaping, Katniss' name was the only name in the females reaping bowl.

    Also, in the books, when plutarc is speaking to Katniss at the capital party while they’re dancing, he pulls out his pocket watch. He does this to “check the time,” but what he really does is show Katniss that he has a Mockingjay bird on his watch face… It was one of the first and BIGGEST seeds planted for the rebellion, and Plutarc’s loyalty to Katniss. They also get to live in a part of town called the Victors Village. but since 12 has only 3 victors, all the houses are empty. so they are rich with 2 houses
