RIP Richard Williams. His lead animation on both this film and The Pink Panther Strikes Again were marvelous and memorable. They were much better than the later animation sequences for the remaining Pink Panther films.
I saw this in the theater when I was 11 years old. Those opening credits are still burned into my mind. When you see it in a darkened theater on a screen 40 ft high, those animated marquees were really mind blowing. It was and still is to this day some of the most dazingly animation I have ever seen.
Me too! I saw it in May 75 at 12 years old in Huntsville Alabama and I still recall the creaking sounds made by the Frankenstein bit....like it was yesterday.
Having the actors' names in lights was a brilliant idea. The lights are animated so beautifully, and the music is perfect. More movies should have animated intros like this.
I really liked how Williams version of The Pink Panther was more fluidly-animated and had a much higher budget compared to the Panther’s creators,David DePatie,Friz Freleng, and Hawley Pratt, who had a limited animation and had to work on smaller budgets since cartoon studios in the 60’s and 70’s were doing that at the time
I'm pretty much confused of all the Pink Panther movies because the inspector Clouseau animated thing looks like the one in revenge of the Pink Panther and the Pink Panther looks different in all the Pink Panther films
I love the panthers impersonations of Groucho Marx,Mickey Mouse,Charlie Chaplin, and Frankenstein as he walks through the doors in the animation opening sequence
I remember watching one of the classic Pink Panter films, being the Pink Panther Strikes Again, and I'm now quite surprised that Richard Williams helped lead the animation work on this and Strikes Again, as well as done Roger Rabbit as well. Thank you for the fantastic animation work, Mr. Williams. RIP Richard Williams
I was at first wondering if this was Dick Williams' work, and upon seeing the dimensional animation on one's, I recognized his work. Pity I'll never be this good.
Given what Williams did with the intro 'toon sequence on Who Framed Roger Rabbit, the entire title sequence was probably single-frame animated as well.
There's something about the way his cigarette moves from one side of his mouth to the other as he's concentrating while rolling the camera that I've always loved. Dick was a master of subtlety. For fuck's sake, I wish that he didn't have to go. RIP.
Richard Williams was done dirty by Hollywood. He was one of the great animators, and yet his magnum opus was stolen from him (twice) and mangled beyond recognition. He deserved better.
I wonder if Dreyfus, after getting out of the (correct me if I'm wrong) asylum, told Clouseau and the others that he saw a pink panther walk in and film him...
That's exactly how I always saw it; the bit were he evaporates at the end is the last moments of his hallucination ebbing away as he leaves his fantasy world and back to sanity. That way I can reconcile it with the series' continuity. It's all very David Lynch.
been a Seller's fan especially PInk Panther my entire life. Became an even bigger Jazz fan being a drummer. I always liked the music! I like it more now and the difference between the solo's in each film. plus How they changed with the times. Curse SUCKED but the music was excellent. Henry Mancini had a few iconic themes Shot in the Dark and Peter Gun used in The 80's classic arcade game Spy Hunter! If you lived in the 80's you heard it
As genius as both elements are individually, the music and the animation just aren't gelling together. Either Mancini needed to compose a unique version of the theme to flow with the visuals....or vice-versa.
If you look quick at 2:00- 2:03 you will see the pink panther flicker blue. Its happens every time I watch my VHS copy of the "Return of the Pink Panther." Look at 2:17the inspector thinks he is Kilroy.
Huh, I wonder if it's meant to be like photographers' flashbulbs? It doesn't seem too likely looking at it again, but he was getting camera flashes right before that as he walked in. It just seems like a weird mistake to make, coloring the PINK panther wrong. If it had a camera sound effect to go with it it would have been clear to the audience.
I remember when I was small, I only knew about the Pink Panther's cartoon, so when I discovered the movies, I thought they were all about live action people interacting with the toony Panther. I was a little too desapointed to discover it was a funny detective movie.
Same, I NEARLY watched the 2006 version when I was little because I only knew about the cartoons that they aired on Boomerang at the time not knowing that there was a series of movies that the cartoons were based on
And also because I didn’t know that the pink panther was actually the name of the jewel and the character itself was just used for the opening and ending credits
Mae fy nhad Tomos Wyn Davies (dyddiad geni: 2/4/1965) yn caru y boi Peter Sellers ac Mae ganddo fo brawd hyn or enw Peter Davies! Dwi’n caru chdi a Peter yn fawr iawn, Dad!
supersonic 556 56 Yeah I know. I’m saying that Williams work here is a big improvement over the work that Depatie Freleng did on the previous Pink Panther films
When there was this cinema we were happier than now because we were living the semplicity and a person can grow up without problems. 🎥🎥🎥🎥🎥🎥🎥🎥🎞️🎞️🎞️🎞️🎬🎬🎬🎬🎬🎬👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍😀😀😀😀😀😀
RIP Richard Williams. His lead animation on both this film and The Pink Panther Strikes Again were marvelous and memorable. They were much better than the later animation sequences for the remaining Pink Panther films.
And Who Framed Roger Rabbit
I’d argue marvel had the least appreciative ones
I thought the mix of live-action and animation in the opening to Son of the Pink Panther was approaching Williams quality.
I believe that the Depatie-Freleng's were more imaginative, plus they originated the whole franchise.
Repeat after me: Ken Harris. Ken Harris. Ken Harris.
Arguably the best Pink Panther opening sequence EVER!!!
Next to strikes again

3:10 Disney MGM Studios In A Nutshell !
Spot on. I'd love to see this on the big screen.
Me too! I saw it in May 75 at 12 years old in Huntsville Alabama and I still recall the creaking sounds made by the Frankenstein bit....like it was yesterday.
Richard Williams and his staff did a great job on the animation.
Small wonder he got the job for animating Roger Rabbit years later.
This is where the inspector got his current design

Rest in Peace Richard Williams...
The Panther is so cool, he was twerking before twerking was a thing.
And doing it better with style.
Clouseau was riding razor scooters before they were a thing.
this is Ken Harris' animation...one of the greatest animators ever
This introduction is a gem from the pinnacle of animation in general.
I love the panthers impersonations of Groucho Marx,Mickey Mouse,Charlie Chaplin, and Frankenstein as he walks through the doors in the animation opening sequence

This is one of my favorites movie themes.
This might be one of the coolest things ever made.
R.I.P Richard Williams.
:(
I love the Pink Panther doing a Mickey Mouse imitation.
This one is my favorite of all the Pink Panther opening sequences.
RIP Richard Williams(1933-2019),thanks for animating the hip feline for the sequel of Blake Edwards’ hit 1964 movie of the same name
McCraeTheMediaLover1999 wait he died
I kinda loved Looney Tunes/Chuck Jones animator, Ken Harris Animation of The Panther dancing at the beginning.
Really doesn't get much better than this.
What about strikes again
Some of the funniest movies ever made.
I was at first wondering if this was Dick Williams' work, and upon seeing the dimensional animation on one's, I recognized his work. Pity I'll never be this good.
Ken Harris is a legendary animator
R.I.P Richard Williams.
The ending credits is like a precursor to Who Framed Roger Rabbit.
Seeing RIchard Williams' name near the end of the opening was the cherry on top. If you didn't know who did this, you do now! Rest in peace good sir.
Richard Williams who Animated this and Roger Rabbit passed away recently he was 86 Years Old
3:31-3:35
😍 Hubba HUBBA, that is some beautiful animation!
Given what Williams did with the intro 'toon sequence on Who Framed Roger Rabbit, the entire title sequence was probably single-frame animated as well.
Unforgettale title animation
Hank Mancini on this intro is beautiful
Wow, Dreyfus became insane enough to see the pink panther.
3:10 nice Mickey walk!
I that part where Dreyfus in the "funny farm" HA HA HA HA HA HA
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Pink Panther invented the twerk??? Can't unsee that
favorite intro, this is the first pink panther movie i watched when i was just a wee lad
Great Animation!!
I kinda likedthe end titles for this sounds interesting I kinda like it
Best opening!
I remember when i was young i thought there were blue and yellow panthers since there was a pink and black panther
Amazing!
The best!
Tony Coe on sax. Rather lovely.
My favorite parts of this movie are the opening theme music and subsequent jewel heist.
Magnificently orchestrated by Charles Panther, the infamous Pink Litton!
JESUS, RICHARD, BUMP THAT LIGHTBULB A LITTLE HARDER WILLYA!? O.O
Not gonna lie, i miss Pink Panther
There's something about the way his cigarette moves from one side of his mouth to the other as he's concentrating while rolling the camera that I've always loved. Dick was a master of subtlety. For fuck's sake, I wish that he didn't have to go. RIP.

The Pink Panther is famous between 1964 and 1980
0:58 to 1:20 have to be my favorite part of the intro
Very enjoyable. My personal favorite of the panther films doesn't have the word "panther" in it: "A Shot in the Dark"
Or the word "pink".
This is the only copy of this video I've seen on CZcams where the audio is in sync with the animation, well done!
every one has a bit of panther in them, yes?
"Eef zere is a Lady Lee-tohn, zere must also be a Laehrd!"
I wonder if Dreyfus, after getting out of the (correct me if I'm wrong) asylum, told Clouseau and the others that he saw a pink panther walk in and film him...
Freddy Richards you're answer is on the follow up movie "The Pink Panther Strikes Again" that barely has anything to do with the cartoon character xD
As insane as "Strikes Again" was, i like to pretend that whole movie was just some weird trip nightmare Dreyfuss was having while in the asylum.
InvaderPet ikr? Even since on the next movie after Strikes Again, Revenge of the Pink Panther, Dreyfuss was released from the asylum
That's exactly how I always saw it; the bit were he evaporates at the end is the last moments of his hallucination ebbing away as he leaves his fantasy world and back to sanity. That way I can reconcile it with the series' continuity. It's all very David Lynch.
Apenas uma Palavra para essa abertura e para Essa Personagem ....
ESPETCULAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAR !!!!
NUNCA MAIS EXISTIRÁ UMA IGUAL!!
Wow and a double-sized JUNIOR SUPERFriend SIZED WENDY wow!!
I wonder which parts were animated by Richard or Ken.
Ever noticed that Richard Williams always makes his animated characters walk in a straight angle?
Humphrey Bogart, Groucho Marx, Charlie Chaplin, Mickey Mouse, Frankenstein, Ballerina, Cowboy & Carmen Miranda 🎟🐆
Don't forget about Esther Williams, the swimmer
1:12 what a beautiful woman.
I think that may have been intentional, since that frame also shows "Color by DeLuxe."
RIP
I never once saw the actual panther in the diamond. Did anyone?

The Return of The Pink Panther.
5:42 Smoke
did richard williams also work on the title sequence of son of the pink panther?
2:15 The thief did the same thing as Clousheau.
Steamboat Willie. ;where? Show me a clip.
"He's the one who started "Twerking". I knew it. 🧐🧐🧐
1:35
3:11 imposter mickey mouse.
3:10 WHAT!!? MICKEY PANTHER?? WE GOT HIM!
As genius as both elements are individually, the music and the animation just aren't gelling together. Either Mancini needed to compose a unique version of the theme to flow with the visuals....or vice-versa.
@John6yt You're way off, LOL
Was the actor who played the museum guide in Indiana Jones And The Last Crusade?
coulld you imagine this intro in 4k?
Henry Mancini at his very best
it's all about the bum wiggle....

Well what’s the animated human after
La pantera rosa ya imitaba a famosos mucho antes que el Genio de Aladdín.
Big improvement over Depatie Freleng
No its made by Richard Williams
supersonic 556 56 Yeah I know. I’m saying that Williams work here is a big improvement over the work that Depatie Freleng did on the previous Pink Panther films
Yeah and depatie freleng animated
On revenge and trail and curse
Not to be a major furry but Pink panther is pretty hot in this sequence???
0:12 to 0:28 why pink WHY!
Okay, millennial kids. Name 5 of the characters Pink Panther imitates without going to wikipedia.
Groucho Marx, Charlie Chaplin (my dad introduced me to him in a book about him when I was 10, keep in mind I'm much older than that now)...
Mickey (aka the corporate slime mouse)
Frankenstein
The Chiquita lady (I think?)
@@ilang.8436 you get a mulligan.
