  • The Aisne-Marne American Cemetery, east of Paris, is the final resting place for nearly 2,300 American service members.
Many of them are Marines who fought in the ferocious World War I battles of Belleau Wood and the Aisne-Marne Offensive.
The memorial chapel sits on a hillside, decorated with sculptured and stained-glass details of wartime personnel, equipment and insignia. Inscribed on its interior wall are 1,060 names of the missing. Just behind the chapel is Belleau Wood.
The American Battle Monuments Commission honors America's fallen service members and their stories at 26 overseas cemeteries and 31 monuments.

My grandfather Dr Burton James Lee, Sr was a surgeon with the AEF in the Marne sector. We believe that some of the men he treated at the Luzancy Gas Hospital in 1918 - but could not save - are likely interred in this beautiful cemetery. I encourage all to visit this hallowed place, and to walk the trails of Belleau Wood just up the hill. A perfect place for a day’s outing with family and friends.

A beautiful video. My cousin is superintendent of this cemetery, and you can see the love, care, and respect shown to these fallen American heroes.

My great uncle was severely wounded here on July 15, 1918. The first day of the Champagne Marne defensive against the German offensive.
