I saw Gordon twice in concert. No bells and whistles, just immense talent. He will be greatly missed.
Yes, the world and the popular culture has changed so. Lightfood sung from his heart, true talent. Young megastars sing with an unnatural voice and they all sing the same, imitating each other. Sounds horrible and boring.
All he needed was his voice, his song and his guitar. That is talent.
"In the Early Morning Rain" with an acoustic guitar and a baritone voice, magnificently written, that even Elvis wanted to sing it.
It's one of my favorite songs.
Gordon Lightfoot ,❤
We will always have his music😊
An iconic Canadian artist. May Gordon Lightfoot rest in peace. ✌️🙏🇨🇦
Godspeed Gordon , Godspeed ❤
What hurts about this is that Gordon Lightfoot represents a time, era, spirit in Canadian music---especially his Yorkville days, when a scene was thriving and vibrant---an epicentre bursting with creativity---that we may never see again
You mean rap songs about murdering and shooting don't count?
Lightfoot was a musician's musician. He wrote his own lead sheets and used vocal techniques unlike his contemporaries. We'll miss him.
I loved Gordon's music for more than 50 years. Got to see him just in concert in Seattle's Opera House. He was amazing and engaging. A sad but fond farewell to the Canadian Troubadour😢.
My Mom sang me the Gordon Lightfoot songs in my crib when I was a baby. I'm 39 now and have grown a love for Gordon's amazing Canadian music. Thank you for all the great songs Gordon Lightfoot, a real Canadian legend. We will miss you but the songs and persona live on.
❤ rest in peace Gordon Lightfoot you are a great singer
Lovely tribute to a legend
I still tear up when he sings the Edmund Fitzgerald.
Yes, being an ex sailor myself, that was my song...he did that so well...he will be missed indeed
Rest Easy now Gord. Thank you for all the music and memories.
I grew up hearing my parents play their Lightfoot CDs all the time on friday and saturday nights and have associated so many memories and emotions with his music. He will be missed. Rest in peace Gordon.
Song for a Winters Night - great arrangement.
Killer song.
Timeless. Immortal.
I'm devastated 😭
Rest in peace and happiness
Love and Adore him even more, I don't know how that could be...I will forever sing his songs...
Great artist
We will always love you, Gordon Lightfoot, as your songs and voice are in our hearts.
Magnifico.😭
Devastating.😢
What an amazing musician!
He was an awesome musician I listen to all of his songs they were just beautiful I’m sad that he’s gone he will be dearly missed. Love you brother From one musician to another. I am a keyboard is and I play a lot of your songs😢
Thank You Mr Lightfoot. Rest In Peace. 😢❤💫
"The wind in the wires made a tattletale sound as the waves turned the minutes to hours." His lyrics and music were pure genius. May he rest in peace.
"Sundown, you better take care, if I find you've been creeping 'round my back stairs..."
One of my favorites.
What memories I had with Gordon Lightfoot in the 70s to present times. Everyone shall pass from this place. Love & Light Gordon.
Rest Easy.....My Dad loved your music. He will say Hi...Thank you
I found his music and never forgot it.
I felt very sorry to see him go. A CD was recently released on the Jasmine label collecting his early Country/Pop sides that he made for the Canadian Chateau label, recorded in two Spring 1962 sessions in Nashville before he became famous, and those very early recordings he preferred to forget.
So sad, listening to his and my favorite song, I love him❤️
Legend and Poet. We'll miss him. 😢
Gordon Lightfoot and Canada and its lands will always be intertwined in my heart and soul. Love love love. Thank you Gordon Lightfoot.
We lost Ian Tyson in late December and now Gordon Lightfoot in early May. I am happy knowing that they lived long, productive lives. I have loved them both since the early 1960s and love them still.
One word for Mr. Lightfoot: Talent.
An Amazing person and Artist... One of a Kind Artist..
I remembered hymn along when the radio plYing his songs....as a kid. I love this song...if u could read my mind love.......magical
A beautiful performer and song
Saw him in my home town. Just learning one of his songs to perform. What a talented, beautiful musical soul.
Great talent, distinctive sound, fellow sailor, and canoes, see you around the bend my friend.
Gordon Meridith Lightfoot is one of the most finest Canadian singer/songwriters of our time. He will always be missed by many who took the time to listen to his music and appreciate the depth and well meaning and writing of each song he produced and performed and sang on stage to the many who appreciated his finely detailed work. Rest well and rest peaceably Gordon Meridith Lightfoot. Your work upon this earth is completed, however your music will live on throughout all eternity.
I’m still playing Gordon Lightfoot records. Saw him twice in concerts. He and his band were awesome.
All of these incredible talents passing away as the years goes on, feels like a part of me passes away too which truly saddens me greatly, but in another way, it will always live on.
Gordon and Anne Murray. Two great Canadian artists who chose to live in Canada.
Thank you so much for following your dreams, Gordon- we are all better because of it.
Got to take my elderly father to see you back in 2014 in Cleveland. A great concert.
Thank you
you will be missed
I listened to the Cold on the shoulder album today. Floorless songwriting end to end. love it. Hadn`t heard it in a while. My Dad had it on vinyl when I was a kid. Great album
The Leader of The Band is forever silenced - a sad day indeed and he will be missed. All who heard him should make it their mission to introduce him to those who come after.. Thank You Gordon for all Your Stories
As a sailer i love Christian Island it ses all you love about your boat ⛵ and the sea sing it to myself every time I sail my boat ⛵ but even more poinant now drop anchor and rest easy in harbour now Gordon bless 🙏 you some wonderful songs 😢
The word “legendary” is used far too frequently these days. But in Gord’s case, the description is spot on. He was the voice of Canada. The Canadian Railroad Trilogy is an absolute masterpiece, as are the two shipwreck songs (Edmund Fitzgerald and Yarmouth Castle). I said on another YT video that Gord’s songs put you in the scene. With Edmund Fitzgerald, you were transported to Superior and were rolling with the waves. On something like Song for a Winter’s Night, you were cozy by the fireplace with a steaming mug of hot chocolate. We will never see his like again.
A nice tribute to a great artist. One of my all time favourites.
I saw Gordon once in the late 1980s.
Such a genius 😢
There's noting like a mid-Spring day with the windows open and a gentle breeze blowing with Gordon Lightfoot playing in the background. That's as close to a perfect Spring day that I can think of.
Seven Island Suite ❤
Special
Saw him at one of his last shows.
American here: Believe Me, Gordon Lightfoot was a big thing here too (At least, AFIK in Pittsburgh) Along with Hockey, Basketball, and that annoying thing, the Telephone, Canadians contributed a LOT to "American" culture. Off to listen to Gordo, And maybe some RUSH. 👍😊👍
Oh yes! I'll never forget on my honeymoon, entering a Copenhagen hotel bar and being surprised that his music was playing on the jukebox. It had quite a few of his songs on it. So, a huge international presence.
Amazing guy, gutted
Sundown you better take care if I find you creeping round my back stairs
❤
***PEACE OUT : AMEN***
I did not know that he appeared on the BBC with Rolf Harris.
Carefree highway
Join the Angel Band, Gordon. You sing lead.🙂🙏
And what do we have now to compare him to? Auto-tuned 'singers', dumbed down lyrics, inarticulate songs with zero class and no message. I'm glad I got to live in a world with Gordon Lightfoot alive and singing his heart out. Today's youth live in a wasteland and don't even know it.
the same age as superman
I grew up with his music. There will never be another like him. Will dearly be missed. His music had meaning.
“Legend”? I liked some of his music…but “Legend”? It’s gotten to the point where it seems like almost any minor celebrity becomes a “Legend” once they die.
Calling him legendary is a stretch.
You don't know anything then!!!!! Elvis recorded 2 of his songs! Culturally, his songs will never grow old, but most popular things today are completely forgetable. He is about as big as Willy Nelson.
@@HollywoodCreeper Bro, he ain't sell no records.
Could you troll harder? Is it even possible?
He was as nice a guy in person if you were lucky enough to have met him.
I agree - met him 5 years ago on Simcoe
Pretty much he lived the life of every Canadian.... Every day singing songs about America and Americans and then died.
I think Locke & Key graphic novel and streaming series was inspired by the lyric, "ghost in a wishing well" in If You Could Read My Mind. He just had lyrics where a single line could inspire generations of others' art. And will continue to long into the future.
