Construction of Tony Fisher's Siamese 6x6x6 Puzzles

- Since my Siamese Cubes (based on 3x3x3s) were probably the first twisty puzzle transformation in the world I thought it would be nice to do the same thing with the 6x6x6 V-Cubes. I decided to make both black and white versions in 2009. I made them by cutting the cubes at a 45 deg angle and then gluing them together. There are a number of alternative ways to make the cuts but this gave a nice internal view of the 6x6x6s before assembly (see photos on my website). The cuts were initially made with a Dremel but finished with a small hack saw. This process is shown in the video.
Quality is pretty good and the construction stops the 6x6x6s from ever locking up. I used standard Rubik's Cube style stickers taken from the V-Cubes.
Other Siamese puzzles I have made are my original Siamese Cubes, Siamese Skewbs, Siamese 5x5x5s, Triamese 5x5x5s Siamese 2x2x2 Triplets and Micro Siamese Cubes.
See- tonyfisherpuzzles.net for photos and information on this and all my other puzzles.

Your level of skill and precision humbes me.
New innovation: 6x6x6x2!
My favourite sleeping video
I enjoy watching this channel tony, my favourite videos are your construction videos. It would be awesome to see more.
these construction videos are amazing!!! u should make them for more of your interesting puzzles!
Man, I wish I had the time (and money) to do stuff like this, it looks like a lot of fun!
Yes you could. Cubic 7x7x7s open the door for lots of new transformations.
You are a very talented and creative man.
Yes that's fine. Thanks for asking.
@paultoner Apart from tiny areas where the cubes connect you can fully scramble it. These kind of puzzles are just as hard as regular ones because when working out a solution you have limited move options.
It would be awesome to have a collection of your masterpieces sitting on my fireplace mantle.
@Kimeru
1. It is original since it is 2 cubes glued together, not just 1 on it's own
2. It is practical since you can turn any puzzle without finger tricks. People were solving Rubik's Cubes years before fancy finger tricks were invented.
3. It's not the same as solving 2 cubes. Many normal moves aren't possible so you need new ones. It therefore presents a new challenge.
So, 0 out of 3 for you. Better luck next time.
@CubeLish They nearly all ship to the UK. V-Cubes, Mefferts, the Chinese companies. In fact I can't remember one that doesn't.
6x6x6's are solid with a few air bubbles
Yeah I love the construction vids dude.!
Oh you're using Finnish sandpaper, I live in Finland!
Mä on voileipä!
@xmysticful Craft knife with a curved blade. The cubes are regular 6x6x6s
@SuperUtubewhore I wasn't intentionally switching them. I had to take them out to add the glue and just randomly put them back.
@Andyrolled Me neither. Because the 6x6x6 has some rectangular areas the joins can't be perfect.
WOW... EPIC.
It is fully functional
@JimTMurray I agree.
2:00 oh the parity!
@CodyDexx Super Glue is very very strong. You would never get it apart.
Because the cuts go so deep it would fall apart otherwise.
Wow, awesome!, gratz, I wish I could aford one of those!.
PS 1st :)
your a genius
sweet!
The problem is that they are actually rectangles so the cuts do not go precisely diagonally through them. On a 2x2x2, 3x3x3, 4x4x4 or 5x5x5 you don't have this situation.
for the bigger stickers, you could have just used the vcube 6 corner stickers, cause those are slightly bigger.
@DreadLaw2 I have been charged hefty import tax plus a handling fee by the postal company for collecting the tax! However it happens rarely. Shapeways is in Europe so there's no tax issue for me.
I believe Canada and Norway are hot on import duties but other countries less so.
@minijimi Perhaps but the the areas aren't perfect squares or rectangles so it would never really look right.
@IPwnAllAndLeaveNone This is one of the easier ones.
@coasterfreak1235 There are loads of ways to join them and no one is going to agree on the best.
@KaiXevandStanley either way, I'm glad you started making construction vids, cause some of these are incredible, like the 2x2x6/7 and the pineapple cube (how was that made?)
was it easier to fuse three layers or did you just decide to? Also, I like how you somewhat advertised the products you used to make this.
I would like to see a 3x3x3 siamese cube that isn't bandaged. That is, you could get cubies from the body of one to the body of another. This is not possible with a standard transformation, but maybe between you and Oskar, you could invent one that actually functions like that.
I don't think It'd be possible . with that much movement I think pieces would fall out when rotating over to another body because of the gap between the bodies .
Wolf Gang I have seen dovetail designs that might fix said problem. That is definitely a problem that needs to be addressed, though.
nice
*sees v cube 6*
*closes laptop slowly*
:) lol
Shyguy33Games Without this iconic puzzle I doubt there would be any puzzle greater than a 5x5x5 in existence.
Tony Fisher Doesn't mean it doesn't suck :P
+Tony Fisher there probably would by now.
Lucy Hunt There aren't any legal / ethical alternatives though the new V-Cube 6 is meant to be a lot better.
UMMMM>.......... i would buy the white one!
perfect =]
I have a question (an ingenious opening statement...). What kind of dremel do you have? Because I'm thinking of getting one, and the one you have looks nice.
This is a fully functional Siamese 6x6x6 puzzle. This is how it moves. You are confusing it with a 6x6x6 which moves differently. You have your own expectations which are not wrong.
I see that around 5:22 the squares which you have joined together are a bit too large for the stickers and it doesnt look all that great would you be able to sand it down more into standard size or would u have to do something else?
i was in total shock he could do that to a cube!!
Very Nice. How long did the construction take in real time?
Even though it's out of proportion, can you make a saimese 7x7 out of two cubic 7x7's? I saw a video where you made a non-pillowed 7x7.
What did you use to get the stickers off the cube at the beginning?
By the way those were DIY cubes right?
@KaiXevandStanley I'm a bit weary of overseas shipping (Import VAT, plus UPS and DHL have both previously charged me "surcharges"), do you have much experience with problems like these when buying from Mefferts/MF8/Cube4You or even shapeways?
@TheCubingFreak UK
couldnt one just take out the pieces and then glue them together? like when doing a siamese 3x3? or would it fall apart because of the inner mechanism of the vcube 6?
Please reply. Can you do a siamese black and white? So one cube is white, one is black and make them siamese
@KaiXevandStanley could you use larger stickers?
what would you do if the internal mechanism came out of alignment
@maboesanman1 They aren't technically square (or rectangular) so they would never look right.
@KaiXevandStanley me too!!!! i always thought you were from USA for some reason :)
@MonsterBuddy10 Always black
what color of cube do you like best wihte or black?
do you plan on scrambling it and try solving it? if you do i would love to see a video
2:04 The PAIN!
V-Cube website.
@toshiya91 That would be me.
how difficult would it be to do the same but offset by 2 layers.
Hey, you should make a siamese 7x7!
It would probably be impossible, though, due
to it's pillow shape.
im from the future, we have ones that arent pillowed!
4:37 "oh shit i forgot something"
@KaiXevandStanley cool :D
@KaiXevandStanley Dont listen to these guys...I love what you have done here. I'm subscribed to your channel because your designs are absolutely genius. Thinking about purchasing something your site! Great work and keep it up.
Why do you need to glue the core and the cubies together?
mmk i made mine yesterday to go along with my siamese 3x3x3's and i had the same problem all i did is went to my local hobbie store and bought some sticker paper and cut some out to fit it looks really good now
Lo hice en 1981
but does it turn where you drummled it?
I am not certain but I don't think it can on this puzzle.
when came the siamese 7x7?
I dont like how theres a bigger black gap between the 3 stickers you added
dont the v cube 6by6by6 have a prob with the click mech
period -.-
"MIRKA Finland" Lol, I live there.
@asderipieree No it doesn't.
whats it like to solve fun?hard?annoyng?frustrating?easy?
why don't you turn the middle layers ?
All moves are clearly shown in the video.
no the layers that connect the two cubes
Riley M
Please see my previous reply.
How stupid are you man, it doesn't work that way
I know, thats why I said I wish I could -aford- one of those.
Thanks anyway.
it has to be rounded, otherwise the corners would fall out when you turn it
i think it'll never come unless there r a non-rounded 7x7
You can do this with any 6x6?
Yes but back then in 2009 v cube was the best brand.
Emily Z Random One oh
Emily Z Random One ill wait into im able to solve my 5x5 before even attempting to make this, lol
yeah me too... i think im missing the patience critera tho...
Emily Z Random One whats that?
lol sanding the cubes can be a good workout.... i can hear him gasping for air....
lol 2:50 reminds me of dentist

Why? No siamese Cubes has ever worked in the way you want and they never will. They are not supposed to. This is a different puzzle and works differently.
He probably fused three layers cause it´s the "middle". If he fused 1 layer it would be unstable.
I seems like u could just glue some layers together with a 6x6 and then solve it twice and get the same thing as solving that once.
Minecraftster148790 Why would you need to glue the layers together?
To get the same bandaging in this puzzle. Just glue a quarter of the puzzle together and solve it twice and that is the same as solving that once
Minecraftster148790 Yes I know but you didn't explain why you should glue the parts together. Just leave a 2x2x6 block alone when you use the puzzle. So your gluing is as pointless as my Siamese 6x6x6s isn't it?
Yes. On ur puzzle there is a 3x3x6 section that u can move unbandaged ( apart from layers that have been cut horizontally ) but two times. On my hypothetical version u could mimic the other cube that bandages it with glue to get the same 3x3x6 sections movement
Minecraftster148790 As I said in my previous reply I know what you are talking about but you still haven't told me why you would glue it. There's no need. Once you have decided you want to solve the puzzle with an unmovable 3x3x6 block... don't move it.
it could also be a siamese 2x2 :)
fisher made a cubic 7x7. he could use that.
How about a new style for corners? Instead of cutting the "corners" as if it was in 2 Dimensions, visualize it as the corners of the inside of a hollow cube. There are 8 corners total, and you cut them one at a time instead of two at a time as usual. A Quadrimese would be cool, too.
2:10 ROFL!
Rubik's sentipede.
Less would have made it a bit unstable, more would have made it less interesting to solve.
I can almost smell the hot plastic.
Have you ever accidentally glued your fingers to a cube?
lol i wonder who tried this first :P
now make a fused 6x6 ;)
