It's a typical, quite normal Dutch phrase, connected to useless what if -questions, that iournalists ask but do so in the wrong logical setting. A what if scenario,is not that weird, in science ...
I'm Brazilian and this phrase is also used here. We hate the idea of “if.” Things are as they are, there is no "if".
