  • Just the other day the new SuperCAT Sound Tails arrived for us to take a look at. Most folks that watch this channel will be familiar with what these do, but if you're not, we have covered them previously at the NAMM Trade show in January where they were first introduced. After much testing, some revisions and the manufacturing delays we've all been dealing with all year, they're finally available for sale.
I asked Madeline from the SoundTools team if she'd be up for a quick video chat about the business and manufacturing process. She's awesome & I hope you'll leave any questions you have for her or anyone on the crew there at the Rat & SoundTools shop.
Thanks for watching - www.dcsoundop.com/supercat for more info

So does the SuperCAT cable carry the same amount of data/audio channels as the regular CAT5e or is it like 4 times bigger? (Seen that the CAT Tails MX that they market with this contains 1 SuperCAT in and 4 CAT5e cables out). SoundTools's product page shows that the SuperCAT cable itself contains the same number of individual wires than the normal CAT5e, so is the SuperCAT actually better than the normal CAT5e?
And if the difference is that the SuperCAT can transmit more data than the CAT5e, then is it just like CAT6?

Juveri, the SuperCAT and SuperCAT Sound cables are both CAT5e rated cables. The main difference between them and standard CAT5e is they are designed for stage and production use. The SuperCAT 'Sound' cable is different again in that each twisted pair has it's own individual ground wire, allowing for things like this where they are terminating the cable to individual xlr connectors directly.
Hopefully that helps clear things up a bit. You should check out the other videos I've done with Soundtools and their channels as well if you're interested. They explain everything a bit better in their own words - czcams.com/video/c_I3nbEHtAM/video.html - thanks for the question!

I had a 100 foot snake that did not have shield on individual channels. There was too much crosstalk to use it. This looks like it has the same problem ?

Interesting and great question. Here is a video I did addressing that exact scenario where I do a demo as well. Cat5e and better cable is designed to be almost completely immune to crosstalk, even when unshielded up to very high frequencies.

@@DaveRat Would CAT6a or CAT7 cables work as well?

With SuperCAT Sound Tails RJ45 or any other product are you aware of a way to add an on/off switch that would allow the 4 mics to be "muted"?

There is no off the shelf product I know of that can mute a Cat snake like this. Maybe ask Dave Rat over on his channel if he's got any ideas, since these are his design - czcams.com/channels/_nJM07b0k7C9CvcM-9OH6w.html

The closest dealer to you is in India - www.sonicevolution.in - if they cannot get them to you, you should message SoundTools directly through their website and see if they can ship them to you.
