  • Set up a simple dante network with my dante cheat sheet:
    courses.offshoreaudio.no/dante
    Dante has become the name in multichannel audio over IP. It’s super flexible and more and more devices are dante enabled. Low latency, super high channel counts and being able to use it on a regular ethernet-based network make it a no-brainer for certain setups.
    But If you know nothing about networking it might give you the fear. Thankfully you don’t need to know much networking to get a simple dante network up and running.
    In this video:
    An overview so you can know if dante is for you
    A tutorial of dante controller so you can get connected and use your dante setup pronto
    Some examples to show how you might use dante
    Some simple troubleshooting tips to help you get past the first hurdles.

      @@OffshoreAudio Andrew, can Live Professor, SQ5 Dante card and a DX-165 stage box be used for live Waves plugins? I don’t own the Dante (DT-165) stage box. If this works, I’d sell my Waves I/O card for the SQ5. I have both cards at the moment, Waves and Dante I/O cards for the SQ5. Thanks. Jim, Las Vegas.

    Nice video! Where does preamplification occur in your network? In stage box or stage rack?

    • @OffshoreAudio
      @OffshoreAudio  Před 8 měsíci +1

      Great question. It happens in the stagebox. Got to get the mic signal up to line level before converting it to digital. So it would look like this. Mic> Preamp>ADC Now you've got a digital signal you can send over Dante.

    Hi Andrew, do you know if it is possible to use a wifi link in a Dante network ? For example is it possible to link a mixer ( say TF3) with the stage I/O box (say Tio1608-D2) without cat5/6 cable. Using good 3rd party wifi link units..... thanks for a a very informative video !👍

    • @OffshoreAudio
      @OffshoreAudio  Před 8 měsíci

      Good question. You cannot, its too unstable for audio so Dante won't recognise WiFi connections. Though apparently you can connect Dante controller wirelessly. Info here: www.audinate.com/learning/faqs/can-dante-operate-over-a-wi-fi-network

      I'm not familiar with dcnm, try setting static IP addresses and using subnets to separate the Dante traffic from any other traffic on the network.

    Thank you for this video, so more than 100m is not recommended?
    I think this is the problem that cause my Dante connection stop working sometimes for a few seconds!

    • @OffshoreAudio
      @OffshoreAudio  Před 5 měsíci +2

      Correct. It's on the audinate website somewhere, also on Allen and Heath and Yamaha. I believe the phrase was "100m between each node" of the network. So in theory if you go through a switch or another Dante entity then your distance counter is reset, if that makes sense.

      @@OffshoreAudiothis correlates with the Category standard of the cables used to the best of my knowledge and understanding; the fatter/faster the “pipe,” the shorter the hops tend to get. While Cat7 is 10+ Gbps, that’s only reliable/to spec for cable lengths of up to 40m (iirc, and I probably don’t, so check that). This is where things start to get spendy, building the infrastructure that’s capable of moving the amount of data at the required speeds over the required distances while keeping latency as low/negligible as possible. Switches with SFP/fiber trunking/backhaul, battery backup for them…

    Do you guys think is intelligent to have a Dante set up for a set up with 10 synths? I would use a stage box for all the inputs in one place, and try to avoid lots of cables around the room. Does it make sense ?

    • @OffshoreAudio
      @OffshoreAudio  Před 2 měsíci +1

      It makes sense if you're always working with a mixer with dante innputs. I see that all the time. E.g. a dlive mixer, with a DT168 stagebox by the keys and synths. But if you're just in and out of different venues with different engineers then you'd probably be better just going for a loom.

      @@OffshoreAudio I see. It would be for my home studio so a mixer with Dante would be ideal, but…… Could I skip the mixer and process all the signals in the box using my daw Ableton Live? Does it make sense? So, I mean, in order to save some money, I would get a DT168, and then move straight into my daw with an Ethernet cable. Is it possible?

    Can SD8 connect over Dante to computer directly as I use logic Pro as mixer. I think that is possible can Anyone know that is possible so that I dont need a physical mixer like XR32

    • @OffshoreAudio
      @OffshoreAudio  Před 9 dny

      SD8 uses the AES50 protocol to transfer audio data, not dante, so it cannot connect to anything using dante. You can only connect it to a device with an AES50 port. It's not designed to operate as a standalone preamp so you wouldn't be able to conrol gain, 48v, or routing without the mixer. If you did somehow connect it to Logic it would probably be a hassle so I wouldn't recommend it. Check out this video to learn how stageboxes work: czcams.com/video/MEdegrbjgfY/video.html

    Could someone please explain to me why I need Dante. I don’t know much about this but why can’t I just connect my stage box to my mixer?

    • @OffshoreAudio
      @OffshoreAudio  Před měsícem +1

      Hello. The good news is You don't need Dante, it's just the language that certain equipment uses to communicate. All digital stageboxes talk to the mixer using a certain language or protocol. If you're using an sq5 mixer and a DX stagebox then you don't need to think about Dante at all because you're not using it. If you're using a DT stagebox with a Dante card in the same mixer then you probably need to understand how Dante works. So whether you need to know and understand Dante just depends on the equipment that you're using.
      Of course if you're pursuing audio as a career then understanding Dante is a must have skill, but that's a different conversation. Hope that helps.

      Yes I thought why would I use it if I need to patch everything 2 times. But now I get it that you could have a entire network with this system. Thanks for your comment
