  • Half Plows bring you to a stop using the inside edge of one skate.
Use Half Plows while blocking 1on1 or blocking with a partner in a wall so you can stay square (facing forward with hips and shoulders even) and block hip to hip.
Once you get the form down, add a partner pushing on your back. Try to keep a strong blocking position and stay facing forward.
NEW SKATER TIP: New skaters often find it easier to learn the half plows on each leg first before learning a full plow stop (where both feet are doing the plowing motion). Both sides become strong & stable making your plow stops come out beautifully!
As you're getting better at your Half Plows, try to get your stops as precise and efficient as you can.
Can you stop EXACTLY where you want to?
Are you in a low, strong blocking position?
If someone made contact or hit you, would you be able to keep your position & stance?
Your goals are Quickness, Strength, and Control.
