45acp vs 10mm vs 9MM in a 1911

  • In this video, I plink around with 3 of my newest 1911s. They're chambered in 9mm, 45acp, and 10mm. Here's my thinking: 9mm for fast pace plinking or maybe competition, 10mm for hunting or self protecting in a woods walk, and 45acp because, it's a 1911... Either way, it's best to have options. Plus I will never have enough 1911s. These models were the Springfield Armory Range Officer Operator (9mm) LAV Master Class (.45) and TRP Operator Longslide (10mm) Thank y'all for watching!

      If you can never have enough 1911's and are collecting them up you can save a large sum of money buy looking at Rock Islands line and modifying them with all the Wilson Combat or Less Bear parts to personalize. I bought there 10mm 1911 and customized it to my specs. I read that Rock Island purchased all of Colts old machinery when they upgraded to CNC equipment.

Then rock island came out with a 10mm that was actually affordable so now I finally have a 10mm in the 1911 platform. Best looking pistol chambered in a caliber with real power. I bought a new 10mm when Colt first came out with a 1911 model Delta Elite in stainless steel. It's a classic. I'm guessing this gun is now about 30 years old. I hardly shoot it because I don't reload like I used to and it needs to be accurized by a 1911 gunsmith specialist. After Colt came out with this 10mm it seems the market fell off a cliff for 10mm pistols. I really do like the ballistics of my 10mm as it is a flat shooter and very accurate.

    I have the Gov. Size forged TRP "Operatror" all black and its the best .45 i have ever shot or had the pleasure to shoot had to wait almost 2 years to get it as most the production run is not for the us the regular market. has the aormory coat that they have on it full lenthguid rod green Tri-Glow sights and has black grey texured grips and nice checkering on fron and back spring of the handle it will never slip in your hand even if it is covered in greese. which i do like also more than the red it is a heavy gun but i shot 50 rounds and in this time of short ammo shortage its nice to have something stright out of the box and not miss once and hardly any lift. I was double tapping it also so it is very worth the wait and cost if you want one of their special guns like most go to special forces and some law enforcments that let them still carry a 45 or 1911 period.

    45acp is fun to shoot but considering the cost (In Germany) for .45 ~16€/50cartridges or 9mm ~10€/50. definetly would take 9mm since its enough for shooting sports

    • @sctm81
      @sctm81 Před 3 lety +1

      For sports at the range 9mm is sufficient. If you want a man stopper, you need the 45acp and if you want to hunt or defend against bears it has to be the 10mm. They each have their purpose.

      @@Keviin2310 yeah, if you also plan to use it as a tool for self defense in this crazy world beyond target shooting then the 45 acp in the 1911 platform makes a little bit more sense.

    Should also get a 911 in 380 or 9mm to continue the black and green trend

    I know the ballistics and sectional density of the 10mm creates the superior round of the three ballistically however I am a .45 kind of guy all the way and always will be.
    If you have ever shot .45 Super or can reload your own .45 Super (Starline Brass or neck down .308 or 30-06 brass) you 10mm guys will all walk away happy. It is King.
    If you are STILL not happy with .45 Super… then buy a rare LAR Grizzly and go .45 Winchester Magnum. I’d mention .50 GI but I don’t own one.

      Also if you’d want to go even further than 10mm power the .460 Rowland conversion for the .45 can get you 900-1000 ft lbs of energy

      @@ms3_alejandro good point…. When you move on to wildcat cartridges, .400 Cor-Bon basically IS 10mm +P just with a necked down .45 cartridge. I had a Buddy with a .400 Cor-Bon barrel for his 1911.

    I LIKE that video-- that's MY kind of shooting-- for FUN.. I've had more than a few years of serious shit- and my stuff is just for FUN now--- so I think I WILL get one of each.. THANKS... but I'm kinda like you- maybe for different reasons.. I'll prefer the .45 ( used it since military many years ago- as fed bodyguard, and just personally attached to it..)... I also have a model 92 winchester rifle (like Chuck Connors- the rifleman) and YES i spin it with either hand-- only difference is I can actually HIT what I shoot at-- Chuck was NOt a shooter...) and LOVE both that and my .45.. wouldnt go with anything else no matter what they come out with.. may try some for FUN- but I have my two standards.. :)

    I like the quality that goes into a good 1911. I never handled many and I was more into 9mm compacts and stuff, but I happened upon a Springfield ronin govt 10mm for an absolute steal and it’s a neat pistol.
    Something about 10mm in a 1911 seems right, a hot round in a flashy pistol but not impractical.

    Looking around 10mm costs around 15$ more than 9mm. Is that pretty normal or is that pandemic pricing. Im looking for a pcc and I really would prefer 10mm but if it cost that much more to shoot. Ehhhhhhh idk. Any replys thank you.
