I worked on one of these for the first time out in the wild and it was a little daunting to me at first, so I came home to learn more about them and this video has helped get me comfortable with them for the next time I run into them
I have taken one of the old flush tubes and cut notches in the bottom of it to line up with the two tabs inside the spud to hold it while tightening the spud nut. You can also drill a hole through that old tube and insert a screwdriver to keep the tube from spinning also.
For 12+ years I have installed several these closet spuds successfully till this week, iv tried old spud with new gasket and new spud and gasket even tried both on a new toilet in this same stall where I'm having problems, the spud will not tighten up and suck down it just keeps popping out. Never had this problem seems like that stall is cursed. Any suggestions?
If your desperate like I was today because the plumbing stores where closed… I seated the spud in with oatley great white pipe dope same with the nut and vaccum breaker connector… it worked at least until I can get the new part
@@handymaninside thing is the spud absolutely wouldn't set down I just ordered a new toilet with the spud already installed, just waiting for the job to become priority as so I can go ahead and install the new toilet and be done
Yep, I've had to do the same thing. I've run into a few toilets where this has happened... makes no sense.. the hole in toilet can't get bigger? Isn't the spuds because I've tried multiple couplings with same result. I just figure whenever they were installed the installer got lucky..lol
I have had the same problem installing a brass spud to a toilet at my job last night! I could not get it to stay seated!! I tried several new ones from our plumbing shop and none of them would stay seated! I ran out of time and close the restroom down and past it job down to the next shift. I don't understand why it wouldn't stay seated! I tighten it onto the toilet really good, I put everything back together for the fourth time and it still popped out!!! WTH!!

To the point and good visuals THANK YOU 🫡
Thanks Tim for making this installation quick and easy
Putty knife on the inside is the best way to work on these without damaging the threads!
Tim is the man 👨
Why don’t you have a spud wrench that goes inside the spud?
The Spud Master model 2 is my favorite. Certified master toilet mechanic.
