- Plug your nose....Urinals are the worst!
In this video we are unclogging two urinals in a can recycling factory with several different size cables on our general cable machine. We hit the secondary 1-1/2" copper drain line first to find out the 3" copper pipe was clogged under the floor. The urinals were also caked with old calcium build up from urine, we used a screw driver to reopen the holes to speed up the drainages on both urinals.

Something you guys might try for calcium build up is muriatic acid. You can get it pretty cheap at most hardware stores, and it'll even dissolve rust stains and other crap on porcelain. I've seen old fixtures work just like they're brand new from it.
That spot you cleaned on the floor is the cleanest part of that dump.
Warehouses are usually dumps anyway

Now that they are pushing for "waterless" urinals, and low-flow, I wonder if that makes the potential for pipe build up all the worse.
I volonteer at a student bar in Denmark, the university sponsored us switching to waterless, after many many manhours Dealing with urine crystals, and very expensive filters breaking
We have finally switched back to a standard, rinse the trap and plenty of warm water through the system every other month and and the bar stinks way less of piss
Here in Californicate our corrupted politicians are promoting trees instead of urinals..

I ran my little faucet augur $10 (lowes) into a modern urinal today many times and I could fell the calcium get pushed further in and bet broken up, then I used my $20 (Amazon) air blaster 5-7 times for good measure to with flushes to make sure it gets to the bigger drain line
They sell a urinal drain cleaner it eats away at the calcium works awesome my local plumbing supply switched companies they were bought out and it sucks they no longer carry it I’ve been meaning to look on line for it and have our secretary order some

I've seen other online plumbers use hydrocloric acid and a plunger and it's cleared easily, no digging into walls.
I seen an Aussie use Hydrochloric acid and it worked great!

StoneWell Forever Definitely! People have been burning the calcium out of urinals and toilets for years. It’s safe for the porcelain and plastic piping but weakens and thins out the metal pipes such as copper/galvanized/cast iron, so a lot depends on what kind of piping you have do the line if we are going to use it. We have some stuff that has an odor additives in it so while we let the acid sit, it doesn’t stink everyone out of the restaurant! 👍

I didn't see you clean out the trap on the second urinal even though you were able to get it to go down a little better you know good and well that trap is filled to the brim like the first one
That happend at my school once
Easiest way pull urinals put in 2" plug fill with acid soak for 1hr or so done! do it all the time fastest way. In the long run no call backs now you see how our kidneys feel. Newer urinals are even harder to clean built in traps longer soak need plug to keep acid in contact. The ones with internal trap if its real chunky after soaking send piano wire thru and tie it to string and flush with water hose out bottom then use wire like a hand saw back and forth in trap just not super hard will cut gouges in porcelain. Will clean it right up. But in newer ones and customers are rushed. swap out is in order that's why I keep two three types of urinals on hand for that 8pm party on friday or satuday night middle of summer 100deg stinks like a pigfarm. Usually just dumping acid in drain won't work you cant keep trap totally full of acid. Just make sure you scrub under your nails nothing like bitting your nail and getting a bite of a piss pebble nasty. Rather shit hit me in the face. Then fermented who knows what. I will gag at some rotten ass urine then walking in and snaking a sewer or rotten grease trap.

Frowned on now a days! If all the pipes were made of plastic it wouldn’t be an issue at all, but on this one it’s copper and cast iron under the ground so the acid eats away at the pipes as well as the clog. 👍
If you have access from the back cut the vent go from there no mess

Yeah we use 5/16” cable on most kitchen and bathroom drains.. 5/8” on the bigger stuff

What happened
Oh for Christ Sakes. Run a drain snake through a Urinal? Just tell the owners to put a cup or more of white vinegar in the water. Leave it as long as possible. Change it as often as possible. There is a lot of Calcium in human Urine. Most Urinal fixtures you can't even get it through the internal trap. It always depends on how the plumber piped the urinal drains. I never found one that couldn't be cleaned with Vinegar.
Urinals have 2" drains. If they drain into 3", there is a good chance that a snake will go UP the pipe and not down.
Over 50 years says I know what I am talking about.

Maybe someone should design a urinal that auto dispenses a tiny bit of acid in every flush? Wait is that what urinal cakes are for?
@@Ariccio123 If Numb Nuts would stop shutting down the water flow to urinals, the problem goes away. Unless it is already calcified. Besides, on almost every ud=rinal I ever worked on, you couldn't get a snake through the trap-way.

@@mungrus White Vinegar is a mild acid. What do you think Drain cleaner is? A stronger acid.
If you wear any type of dental appliance in your mouth, it will get calcium deposits and turn white. You can buy commercial products to clean them. Or leave in in White Vinegar overnight. Cheaper and better.

That's true. But it gets harder and harder to buy urinals with external traps. They don't make them anymore. So you have to get them from building salvage yards.

Larry Johnson Almost always with a hoot best down of the pipe with a cable machine. The pipes for urinals get loaded with calcium build up from urine and it’s when it hardens in its rock form it can be a pain in the butt! 👍

For some reason men piss in the urinal and walk away and don't flush. This causes uric salt to build up quicker. The urinals in my factory have no drain covers just a gaping hole, with a rubbery deodorizer screen sitting in there. U can see the build up, reminds me of stalactites in a cave or the crystals of a geode.

As soon as a Urinal starts slowing down, they close off the water flow so it doesn't overflow. If it overflows, there isn't enough water flowing through the Urinals. That's by body sensing Flushometers help solve the problem. Then, no one wants to tough the Flushometer handle. So the urine gets super concentrated and the calcium crystals get worse and worse. Is that a Copper waste on those Urinals? No code in the USA allows copper tubing for Urinal Wastes. It MUST be IPS pipe.
UPSTATE New York? Were exposed P-Traps ever allowed in New York? They aren't allowed in New York City and they aren't allowed in Massachusetts. For REASON.
We don’t see them to often up here Chris. I think it was more of a handy man that put that bathroom together and that why they have to exterior traps. Really the only situation we run into them up here are the bars, and I’d say that’s for easy access when the place is crowded. I believe the code is only interior traps but I’d have to break out my book to be 100%!
@@DrainPros That looks like used equipment. However, never forget or underestimate the effect of the toilet tank not having enough water in it. Especially with those Hunter ball cocks that I never could figure out how to adjust them. Some toilet tanks need the water level in the tank just below the overfill tube.
CLR will break that up.

Yeah looks pretty flat.. I’m not entirely sure that the warehouse workers are twisting the knob to flush either, so it pretty much straight urine non diluted slowly flushing out causing the calcium to form up! 👍 Thanks for watching yensabi!

Also you can't just "pull" a random pipe like it's not tightly closed. Also the pipe was old, so if you did pull it, it would break and the urine would run around the walls and basically, only rebuilding everything would work
