Possibly the best horror film ever made, this brilliant adaptation of Ira Levin’s best-selling novel is the story of a loving young New York City couple who are expecting their first child. Like most first-time mothers, Rosemary (Mia Farrow) experiences confusion and fear. Her husband (John Cassavetes), an ambitious but unsuccessful actor, makes a pact with the Devil that promises to send his career skyward. Director Roman Polanski elicits uniformly extraordinary performances from the all-star cast. Ruth Gordon won an Oscar® for her performance as an oversolicitous next-door neighbour in this classic chiller.
Featuring: Mia Farrow, John Cassavetes, Ruth Gordon, Sidney Blackmer, Maurice Evans, Ralph Bellamy, Patsy Kelly, Elisha Cook Jr, Hanna Landy, Emmaline Henry

I always loved Rosemary's maternity wardrobe in this movie; simple, stylish and chic
70s movies age well because fashion has come full circle since then.

I’ve always thought that the use of the innocuous Scrabble tiles to reveal something sinister and frightening was masterful, since in real life we associate them with fun and recreation.
Good point! So many classic devil-themed horror movies have kiddie toys which are used to sinister effect (the ouija board in The Exorcist, and the tricycle in The Omen).
@@blerksnarfgut2766the speak and spell in poltergeist
Yes verry creative
@@terridemaio7334 Along with the scrabble game.I also liked the sounds of children playing outside while and they were silenced when the music came on and Rosemary realised Hutch may be right?
This film is a masterclass. The shift in music to indicate a change in narrative is top shelf direction.
Ive always loved this scene!! That and when she held up that tanus root necklace and said "its lovely".. this movie never gets old to me.
HUTCH was doing everything to help Rosemary he cared for her so much , it’s expressed much more in Ira levins book ! Hutch wakes from the coma thinking it’s the morning to meet Rosemary, he realises he’s dying yet in his last breath says to that amazing girlfriend you hear on the phone & see briefly at the funeral “ you must tell Rosemary it’s urgent it’s a anagram “ I adore Hutch he knew he was dying yet was determined to try n save Rosemary
An indication of the high quality of the production of this movie is the book that Rosemary has with her in this scene. "All of Them Witches" is a prop, not a book that was published in real-life yet the book really does look like something that might have been printed maybe in the 1920's. The kind of paper, a kind that gets somewhat brittle with age and a little discolored; the binding; the font and design of the cover; the way photographs are reproduced even though seen for maybe half a second. I have some experience with antiquarian books and I know an old book when I see one and in some instances can make a good guess at how old. "All of Them Witches" , though a prop, looks like the real thing. Someone did a fantastic job at making just a small part of this movie.
I thought it was a published book. I wonder how they made that book look so real
Interesting
@@user-wo6kl8wb4r I believe it is, and one can order it on line.
I agree completely, and even when I saw this film when it was new and I was only 13 years, I really noticed that too. This was particularly true in the close-up of the bottom of the printed photo (with visible dot pattern), the printed text of the caption, the underlining of the name, and her finger.
I always thought it was weird how ROMAN Polanski is the director and John CASSAVETES starred in Rosemarys Baby. Then the villains name is ROMAN CASTEVET. Last name is different but very similar IMO.
Romey was into occultism
I've always thought the same thing...
Omg
It actually explains to me why I always think that the villain's name is Castavetes and always get confused when it's Castevet 😅
This was a brilliant and chilling moment in this masterpiece of cinema!
For me, the anagrammatic Scrabble scene is the creepiest in the entire film. (How, indeed, is Hell fact met?) Levin did this kind of eerily-cryptic foreshadowing again in The Stepford Wives when, in the novel, Joanna is reading into a tape macine so that her vocal timbre can be emulated. Spooky stuff. I'd also llike to draw notice to Ms. Farrow's artistry in conveying so many thoughts and emotions in her close-ups in this scene, predominantly without saying anything.
Definitely the turning point for Ro.😊
Yes Roman Polanski did a great job with this movie but it is Ira Levin's masterpiece
So extraordinarily well said!😊
True.😊
Both Slavs 🥰
Nice to know Scrabble sales weren’t affected by this film.
As she was correctly rearranging the Scrabble tiles, Rosemary reached that point of desperation where she was hoping against hope that they would NOT spell out that name!
Yes who would imagine an innocent. game like scramble could spell out something so terrifying for Rosemary
Her hand hesitates to move the "STEVE" into its final position.
Scrabble spells out "ROMAN POLANSKI".
Rosemary: "No! It can't be!"
The re-arranging of the letters of the name Steven Marcato to Roman Castevet reminds me of the the novella "Carmilla" by Sheridan Le Fanu. It's been many years since I read the story but my recollection is that Carmilla the vampire, as she went from place to place over the years, had to keep giving herself new names that were new combinations of the letters of her name. (Maybe someone else reading comments can add something here.) Perhaps the same idea applies with Steven/Roman?
It sounds like the script editor had read the novella Carmilla and taken that idea!
‘My name is nanogram’, she said.’ Knowledge of another’s name is considered power.
I love Scrabble. It's now my favourite board game
Rosemary's baby it's my second favourite movie after Mulholland drive
great choice ...

1:52 - As Rosemary pulls the book closer, on the floor you can see “ELF SHOT”, although we were just shown that the last thing she’d spelled was “HOW IS HELL FACT ME”. Obviously (and wisely) these shots got juggled so that she ended with the extra unused T in her hand, signaling that she was giving up on “All Of Them Witches”.
I think she was so embarrased by “HOW IS HELL FACT ME”, that she changed it back to something that at least made some sort of sense, in case her husband suddenly walked it
I thought scrabble was an innocent game ...
21 mia farrows breakout 🎥😊
This is no dream,it's really happenning ! Sharon'baby?
ELF Shot is a term used with Electric Low Frequency on Targeted Individual. Fun Facts. Hey Jude was a song written about Mia Farrows sister Jude Farrow who turned the Beatles onto mysticism and Transindental Meditation. Hey Jude is on the same album as Helter Skelter which was written between this film and the Tate/LaBianca murdered. Charles Manson stated he was trying to have the Record Studio Exec of the beach boys killed who had just sold the house to Roman Polanski and Sharon Tate. Just a coincidence. Also Roman and Rosemary LaBianca with Roman and Rosemary as the characters names. Not very common names yet Roman Polanski directs it. You have three Romans and Two Rosemary's. Mary is usually short for Rosemary and even in the 60s it wasn't common to hear that entire name. Also John and Paul were said to have rented the Dakota in the 60s, there is a 1963 photo of the Beatles in central park with the Dakota behind it, and the Dakota was not the original external shot of the bramford. It was on 52nd but they didn't get permission. Also John and Yoko buy both the 6th and 7th floors. Yoko says I'm a witch too" in a 2017 Facebook post. To me it seems like some actual sacrifices connect in some bizzare way. 3specially with the Hollywood cult scene known today. And Anton Lavey of Satan's Church being a consultant on the Rosemary's Baby project
Mia's younger sister Tisa was an actress in her own right, though to a much lesser degree. One of her most memorable roles was as "Mouse", a withdrawn sorority girl in the TV movie "The Initiation of Sarah".
Hey Jude was written about Julian Lennon. Dear Prudence was written about Prudence Farrow, Mia's sister.
@@geofftayloruk Correct yet Dear Prudence is on the Album that Helter Skelter is on. That was a simple Gaffe on my part but the point remains the same. thanks for pointing that out though.
You left the most important connection between John Lennon and The Dakota: he was was shot and killed just outside of it.
