That's a bummer. I think your videos are very helpful. Uber benefits because you are providing training that Uber should be providing; and I'm sure the information you share has resulted in more people signing up as riders and as passengers. So, Uber should be thanking you instead of suspending you.

+Raj Raj You are "SO RIGHT" Raj Raj. Uber 'customers expect you to sit in their driveway for 15 minutes while they are still putzing around in their house getting ready. The Uber app plainly tells them [on their end] the arrival time of the car. Yet they still putz around like you are a “paid limo driver” or something keeping you waiting for a mere $0.15 per minute while you're waiting. And if that is not bad enough, Uber encourages no tipping from customers. This really sucks. Especially since Uber has dropped their rates down to $0.90 per mile now. They get 20% of the $0.90 per mile which equates to $0.72 per mile for the driver [before taxes, gas etc]. Now, deduct taxes (because you’re a 1099 independent contractor) and all of your gasoline, vehicle maintenance, tires and more etc. and what do you end up with? ZERO “0” !!
+Raj Raj Having bottled water and phone chargers is a bonus, but, for me, not necessary, for me to give an Uber driver a 5-star rating. A driver who drives safely and is able to get me from point A to point B, and knows where he or she is going, is more likely to get a 5-star rating from me than someone who speeds or otherwise drives very dangerously. Probably only 3 or 4 Uber drivers ever have driven so unsafely, or didn't know where they were going, that I gave them less than 5-star ratings. I simply wish there were more passengers and drivers like me, who reward Uber drivers for safe driving and having a sense of direction.

Yeah I had 4 college students get in my brand new car,I then heard beers getting cracked open, they were verbally assaulting and vulgar, making out,etc. example one girl said "I can't believe I'm going to f#$k this guy and I don't know his name" I was worried they would trash the car and spill beer if I kicked them out, the one jackass kept repeating my name over and over saying are you unreal jim? some how they all thought this was hilarious. all that for 10 dollars gross pay. if I could have given 0 stars I would have. I have also discontinued with giving waters and gum, I've never I've been tipped for these things,uber anymore is just sooo cheap I can't make ends meet, trying lyft this week to see if it works better. uber better make some changes soon such as adding tip option to app, increasing price per mile from .90 cents to 1.50, split the safe driver fee because I am the safe driver after all, increase minimum fare from 4 to 7 or 8 dollars, and cancellations need to be increased, uber also should pay .25 cents a mile while I am enroute to my pickup, many times I drive five miles then they cancel. I would love to see some of this addressed.

***** yeah pretty much, lots of issues with uber. I got my statistics. I gave 98 rides since september and took home 350 dollars, that's not counting what I pay for insurance, gas, and cost of water plus my time. Really disappointed with them.

Yeah uber says I million but I've heard issues where they bail out through some loop hole and the drivers insurance is now responsible, but when the drivers insurance company find out they had the uber app on they don't cover the accident. Not sure if it's true but I read that in a couple different places. They need to change something,I won't go back on the road until they raise the rates and clear the insurance questions
At some point they deactivate all drivers, once they wake up and use uber to profit, they are gone. Drive for fares Iike a good slave or be gone.

This is really good info. I hope you got your account back. Lyft (in California) has told us that you can't video with in the car without written AND verbal consent i.E. don't do it. Which I understand...however its scary...driving with strangers. I find your channel very informative. Thank you for all your work and sharing your knowledge and experience.

youngsil11: That wasn't even the issue. Uber controls EVERYTHING. They can accuse you of anything they want, and you have no recourse against them even if what they accuse you of is totally made up. There's no way to contact them except if there is a specific problem with a specific fare, or if they have contacted you. You cannot issue a random communication with them. They simply wanted him off the air, and, it didn't matter if he was making them look good OR bad. Uber is just trying to exist and lay low because, one day, they are just going to up and vanish with everyone's money.

I started to drive for Uber and then I found out that there is a major problem about auto insurance. Using personal auto insurance is dangerous and if you have an accident your insurance company will not cover you and you will also be dropped.
Commercial insurance is very expensive.
I have property and can't afford a law suit if a passenger is injured.
What do most Uber drivers do in this situation?

My company has a policy expressly forbidding any kind of ridesharing, livery, etc. unless I get the uber-expensive (see what I did there?) commercial plan, and even if everything *was* covered by Uber every time I drive, I still am operating the insured vehicle for a use that is not covered. Loopholes. LOL
I'm sure insurance companies will catch up and be ok with this in the future, and many may be ok with it now... Before any "NUber" starts out, they might want to check with their company to be on the safe side. Trying to get insurance after a cancellation jacks up your rates! :-(

DashCamAndy I believe all state or state farm covers ride sharing. my father and I both switched cause they covered the passengers, my vehilce,myself and any,other vehicle even if I wasn't at fault they would pay upfront for the riders medical expenses and go after the other insurance companies.
Years ago I was going to start a utube channel with dash cam footage. But in Florida lyft and uber sent out a warning any video or audio used on any social media would result in a lifetime suspension. And i have volumes of good bad and damn evil stories over the past 7 years doing party shift. They never end every weekend is more wild and crazy stories they never end!! Good luck

File a DBA at the court house under your own taxi cab businesss, promote your services and grab as much money as you can.
You do not have to work for third party companies, who only do marketing and profit from your labor. This DBA is legal as any business. Use your own car even if that is an old model. Customer do not care about that, as long is clean and you can transport them.. good luck guys

firefly311: Not in Oklahoma, the state that he lives in. as long as one of the parties knew of the recording being made, it was totally legal. He was one of the parties, and he had knowledge, so it satisfied the law. He even went above and beyond to blur out the faces and any identifying parts of the video.
The REAL problem is that Uber doesn't want there to be any actual evidence of how they do business, and especially how they screw over both, their drivers and their riders. They ALSO don't want there to be any proof that THEY ARE COLLECTING the money from the Riders (see below). They are walking on very thin ice, and are very closed to being put out of business by so many cities around the world because of their bad business practices, and their lies..
For example, in France, they have legally claimed that they are NOT A TAXI SERVICE. They are just a social app. It's not their business if people on their 'social app' work out arrangements to get rides from other users on the app. To back this up, ask any Uber driver to show you their year end income statement.
It shows that the DRIVERS themselves have collected the entire fares from the riders as income, and Uber doesn't collect anything. Then, the DRIVERS pay Uber fees and they also pay other taxes and fees. So, the Drivers are left looking like they are collecting everyone's money, NOT UBER.
So, the day that Uber finally takes all of their money and decides to run, all the current drivers will be left holding the bag and will be liable for anything not paid and any services not rendered.
Randy, I've been driving for Uber and Lyft, and I actually prefer Lyft over Uber. They both have pros and cons, but Lyft has been a better experience for me overall. I would encourage you to get going with Lyft for now... you can always go back to Uber when they reinstate you.

In Oklahoma it is legal to video tape someone as long as one of the parties knows it is occurring. He's also in the videos and knows he's taping, so it's legal in Oklahoma. He also said he was blurring out the faces anyway even though it wasn't necessary under the law.
Uber just makes up their own rules on the fly whenever they want to, and they also make false accusations against drivers whenever they want to, and there's nothing you can do about it since they control every aspect of the business.
This is also part of the reason they are worried about such evidence, my last comment also makes it very clear that drivers are not really 'independent contractors'. Uber is just avoiding paying employment taxes for them is all.
So now question time. Most commercial drivers have Drive Cam installed in vehicles today. THis device is handy for liability reasons, accidents , safety ,and records data like speed ,speed on turns , and activates on impacts such as potholes etc Are you aloud to have such a device mounted on the dash board in your Uber car? What if your being attacked or a passenger is behaving strangely ,on all drive cams you can activate it manually by the press of a button.
+keving52002 Yes, I use a GoPro Hero 3+ Black with a 64GB card. It faces the road, and records audio. I have it on a continuous loop, so I always start the video when I turn on the Uber app, and stop it when I get home. It does the rest for me.

It's legal for any Uber driver to use a dash cam to film passengers in any state. You are in a public transport vehicle and do not have the expectation of privacy which is what the wire tap laws are against. If you are posing videos of people without their consent that may be where you run into a problem.

Uber has other definitions both in German and in English which would apply. Plus, in the US you cannot copyright or trademark a regular word. So he can legally call himself Uber Man for even longer than Uber itself will be around.

I realize this is an old thread, however UBER is doing something that will make it a very relevant thread. UBER is now doing background checks to infinity, not just the 7 or 10 years as in the past. I was just waitlisted for a bad check in 1997, a class III misdemeanor (the least possible offense, other than a traffic infraction). WAKE UP people!! its time to organize as drivers of UBER!!!!!!

I've been driving for about a month. I am a good driver with a good rating. I enjoy the job. However , I am very unimpressed with UBER . No support ... I'm not sure that I'm getting paid correctly. The app is iffy. Navigation is not great. When I watched your video I thought " ahh finally some answers that uber should be providing ".

I have a problem with the UBER completion in their APP. I put in my routing number and checking account number, No problem. I put in my SSN# and it says Error my SSN# is wrong. I have been contacting UBER for over two weeks now and they won't respond to me at all. I gave them a 24 hour notice that if I don;t hear from them in that time frame I will go to Lyft

That is debatable in your car. In some states it is considered private, and you can face felony wire-tapping charges. It's very important to know your local laws, rules, and regulations.

That's great, but the fact is the law does not care how you see it. You must know your local laws regarding recording, or you can face jail. It's a felony, and no joke.

Sorry that happened to you. I think the rating system Uber has is such a threat to the drivers. All a customer has to do is no like you and give a 1 star for fun and there goes your high rating and your job is account is at risk. So basically, your job is in the hands of the customer. YES, I was a new driver just 3 weeks ago, maybe I'm just trippin but I think Uber punished me a little, enough to ruin a few good surges. I noticed that even if you are in a surge zone you can still get pings from just outside that zone. I would be within the 2.0 surge when I get pinged from a 1.2 zone, I don't accept the 1.2 and wait for the higher zone, but if that happens too many times Uber messes with my app, when I go to accept a 2.0 it won't let me, I fight with it but it keeps messing with me till I lose some of the higher surges. Is that what is happening, is uber punishing me for not accepting lower surges?
One of the important facts that is being overlooked in this discussion is the section of the Uber Driver Contract that does not allow Uber drivers to make public statements that can be interpreted as Uber's stance on a public matter or operating position of the company. The point of that passage in the contract is to assure that Uber has exactly one official voice in how the company runs. That said, One can - no matter what your relationship to Uber is - voice your opinion about the company. To represent yourself AS the voice of the the company in public media (eg. a media interview or before an other media audience) in any way, is a BIG no-no. Uber - like other corporate entities - do have the right to defend themselves against the libelous or slanderous actions of others - just like individual citizens. They can enforce that contract clause in several ways - including suspending or cancelling your employment as a contract driver for violating the contract. I have been an Uber Contract driver for more than 3 years. One of the best benefits of "Ubering" has been my ability to afford a 3-month DRIVING tour of Australia and New Zealand after my retirement from my regular Career job. It was the best 19,000 Km I have driven and the best $12,000 (US) I have ever spent, paid mostly by my work at Uber. I DO wish one could add "carriage returns" (Ctrl-M) to these missives to separate concepts into paragraphs! It would make comments easier to read!

I got my account suspended as well I was told I got reported as "reckless driver" I had a dash cam that records my speed as well and proved them I never did such thing and it's been over 6 months and haven't herd from them

When someone hires a taxi, that someone is paying for - among other things - a reasonable degree of privacy.
For example, if I rent you a room, you have exclusive use of that room. I can't enter without your permission and I certainly can't film you without your consent.
If I rent you a ride in my automobile, I can't film you in my automobile. I have agreed to allow you the exclusive use of the backseat of my vehicle for the duration of the trip. That exclusive use includes privacy...
What's even worse is that Randy monetized the recordings by putting them up on CZcams...

As long as you have a notice one each one of the passenger doors notifying them that they maybe recorded audio and video then you're covered.
That is 100% not true. Most states don't require any notice as they are single party consent states. Some states are 2 party consent which means even a small notice on the window would most likely not hold water in court as you need their permission to record. It really depends on the state.
You know what uber needs to start doing is quit suspending people and simply RAISE Rates to 2.50 per mile . Then all the bickering between uber and the drivers should subside.. Let's face it it's all about the money... We are sick and tired of working for peanuts.

okay, you state do not video your passengers , two days ago I received a call from Uber while speaking with them I explained being a bit nervous about driving due to violence being 63 yrs old that is a concern to me, Uber indicated to video tape your rides and let your passengers know you are taping them. I am a new driver.

No I meant 3 months ago and reactivation in 3 days and yes I too received phone calls not texted or email. When did you get deactivated and are you back yet I'm not sure hold that video was. Also my rating fell below a 4.6 but dude I'm not saying it was racial but I'm Hispanic and this is Texas home of the good old boys. And I drive TCU students all the time 99 % are cool as hell it's that 1 % that's given me trouble very fratty if you know what I mean but I like driving these kids it's been fun

I was just suspended from Uber for using a profile picture that wasn't me. Uber gave me no warning to remove the profile picture. The suspension happened right out of the blue. It's been 2 days and I'm still waiting for a replay from Uber. My word to the rest of you...don't drive for Uber. Instead you might want to try and drive for Lyft. At least you get to talk to real humans instead of some inhuman robot who could care less about us humans.
