    As a spanish guy I've to say that you tried the typical touristic places. You should try to travel to the northern part of Spain (Logroño, San Sebastian, Pamplona, Asturias), where you are gonna eat even better and more traditional spanish food. Also Barcelona for mediterranean food, but avoiding at all cost the most touristic places.

    As an Argentinian, now living in Madrid, I thought I knew traditional Spanish food, but when I moved to Madrid, I realised that this was not the case and that Spanish food is as wide and perhaps even better than Italian or French food.
    The difference is that since there are many descendants of Italian and French immigrants (and not so many Spaniards) in the USA, these cuisines enjoy a greater diffusion through the media and American movies and series.
    But it is good that you are able to discover and appreciate Spanish cuisine. I think it is the best in the world.

    MESON is not a "museum", it is kind of traditional restaurant. The name comes from french "maison", and it means "house". So it is like a name for the ancient taberns or houses where travellers could stop, have a rest and eat something. In Spain, you find the more frequently in northern Spain.

    • @astartes1213
      @astartes1213 Před 11 měsíci +14

      @ESPjump Před 11 měsíci +6

      @@astartes1213 I think that they all have a common origin, from latin of course. My thoughts about the relation with french are because in spanish we have other words completly different for house, while "mansion" refers to a huge house for rich people. In galician the use of meson is very extended, and usually its origin is related to the french pilgrims going to Santiago.

    For adding a little bit of history to the “bocata de calamares”, in case anyone had thought why fish is in a typical dish of a place with no sea. When they were fished in the shore and shipped to madrid, which is in the center of Spain, they weren’t already fresh anymore, so for making it harder for everyone to notice it, they would batter and fry them. Obviously this has changed a lot with refrigerated trucks and it’s not (always) made for this reason any more

    But awesome Guga, most videos that I see covering spanish food, they go blindly or with some weird posh local, but man you got a proper bocadillo de calamares in a proper bar, you also got some setas al ajillo y jamon and torrijas, that is legit.
    Still me being from the south I cannot avoid getting somewhat upset that the concept of tapas people outside get is just the one of these some sort of tapas restaurants. Tapas in 99.99% of places in the south, is a ration just like the ones you`ve seen but those 2 euros or even less in some places is for the beer AND the tapa together, that`s the bar culture at least in the south, you go to drink beer and eat at the same time in equal measure 😁Madrid and Barcelona sure have their charms, but me being the Granada, Malaga and Cadiz lover that I am It just breaks my heart that much attention in the same suspects everytime. Hell, Galicia and the Vasque Country both culinary and culturally speaking are amazeballs and so few times mentioned 😢

    3- The most typical food from Madrid are "cocido madrileño" and "callos a la madrileña", apart from the "bocadillo de calamares" you also showed. If you didn't have them, you have to come back and try them. You won't regret that!

    Being a meat lover yourself, the next time you come to Spain you have to go to "El Capricho" in León. It's said to be one of the best places in the world (some say the best) to eat meat.

    When you do these on the road videos, you use your inside voice. Not yelling about everything. I'm sure those around you appreciate that, so well done for being needlessly loud in public places.
