    I think my curve was around 27 degrees when the doctors found it, I was 9 years old at the time. My case was perfect for the brace treatment, they luckily found it early enough that I wouldn’t have to worry about surgery IF I wore the brace enough. Which I did, cause I was so terrified of a surgery XD
    And yes, it was an annoying thing in the 3 years I spent wearing it, but I’m so incredibly glad I did. The discomfort (which I got used to within months) was worth powering through, I think my curve even shrunk a bit by the third year. 23 degrees or maybe even into the teens, I think. I’m 18 now and living very normally, and I just felt like sharing my experience for anyone else who may have this disease.

      Hi, I also have scoliosis but I have diagnosed about 5 years ago. Your curve might not be considered severe enough to have a brace. I had a brace for about 1-2 years they were painful and uncomfortable. I looked forward for my rests but this wasn't long as I had to wear it for 20 hours a day. Then in year 9 I had a 10 hour operation to fix it. Before this my curve was 90 degrees. If you have any questions don't hesitate to ask and i'll try to answer them for you.

    I got diagnosed with scoliosis about 5 months ago, and tbh i hate it. It makes me inscure about my body because my waist is uneven and it affects the length of my legs it just overall lowers my self esteem, and my case isnt super horrible but from the time that i got diagnosed to today i have realized it more and more and it sucks because i just want to have a nice body without having to lean on one side of my body without even knowing that im leaning.

    • @jazw4649
      @jazw4649 Před rokem +1

      I feel your pain. Im 47 and I was exactly like you when I was diagnosed at 10 or 11. Its a hard pill to swallow, but you are more than your body. Clothes will fit differently, but you can find styles that look good. I like empire cut dresses and ones with elastic gathered waistline, I dont wear long dresses because that accentuates the curve. Wide belted dress pants and 1 piece bathing suit that sits very high on the hips is a good style too. I like the fit of some mens sweaters better too because they are a bit longer in the waist. You will find your groove. Its a challenge at first, but everybody out there scoliosis or not has things they want to hide about their bodies. Just look for ways to accentuate all the parts you do like. I even wore a tea length wedding gown when I got married. I hope this helps

  • @jazw4649
    @jazw4649 Před rokem

    I've had Ideopathic Scoliosis for 35 years. Diagnosed around 10 or 11 years old.
    My thoughts now on the cause lean towards a problem with the gut microbiome absorption of nutrients and the consequent effects being there are hormonal imbalances leading to a deformity in growth. Kids with hip dysplasia also may have these imbalances. It can run in families because others may have this inability to absorb nutrients adequately as well. Constipation might be a symptom of scoliosis worth looking into.
    Scoliosis does hurt, I dunno why this video says it doesn't. Also, any amount of torsion on your ribcage can affect your heart and lung capacity. I can't handle endurance sports. I have trouble standing for a long time and it is particularly painful around the time of menstruation. Hip and knee issues as also a result of being out of alignment.
    Best advice: (I opted to not get surgery and used a night brace instead while still growing) keep very flexible, stay fit because any extra weight is so painful on joints even the 10 lbs of covid weight I gained, exercise hips legs and pelvis. Look into Scroth method of exercise to strengthen the parts of your curves that are hard to stretch properly. I have a lot of trouble with core strengthening exercises because it throws my back into spasms. Be conscious of your posture, neck and head back not forward, butt tucked under to engage abs. Chiropractic was not much relief for me but you might have better results.

      Hello! I found out I had scoliosis at your age. Personally, my doctor told me that this condition could result from bad posture or genetics. At your age, you're still growing, so it is possible for the curve to get better or worse until your bones stop growing. Personally, I got a back brace, which helped me A LOT. Also, you might want to talk to your parents about schroth physiotherapy. I did it for 3 years and my curve got better. With the back brace and schroth physiotherapy, my curve went from 26-27 degrees to 20-21 degrees in 3 years. I also have an ergonomic chair, which helps me sit long hours without my back feeling uncomfortable and helps with my sitting posture.

    Is there a difference between having it from birth (or childhood) and having it due to an injury?
    I for exemple had an injury to my back and pelvis causing a noticable pelvic tilt and mild scoliosis. I have pain in shoulder back hip knee ankle and even a little bit in elbows. I also have pain in my trapezius muscle.
    Is it normal that a mild scoliosis + pelvis tilt causes this pain? Cause what I'm hearing is mild scoliosis doesn't really cause pain

I have pain between my shoulders and my lower back because my alignment is all out of whack and I live an active lifestyle. I have a farm and horses and I struggle to do my chores. I wear orthotics, I do yoga, inversion table, chiro, physical therapy and acupuncture. Wish I could fix this.

I'm 16 now.🥰I was diagnosed with 40 degrees, and my doctor said if I didn't discover that, I would probably need surgery and be suspended from school. ThankGod, my mom noticed that there was a rehab center from Germany that had braces for patients to wear. I mean you should pay some attention for this:)

    It should have been mentioned, that the reason of scoliosis is due to muscular imbalance. Shortly speaking there are hundreds of muscles holding your spine and if a muscle on one side is less/more flexible than the same muscle located on opposite side, you get a curved spine (it is like one muscle is pulling your spine the way too strong and thus logically the spine isn't straight anymore)

    I have had scoliosis since I was 6, and now I’m 13, 5 back braces in, and I really can’t have surgery cuz I have arthritis too, so that would doubly my recovery time. And I could probably never play soccer again. It’s just so flipping hard to wear it, it’s uncomfortable after long times, you can see it under my shirt, if I raise my hands or sit down. So I almost never wanna wear it in public, and at home I’m always bending down, or doing something or just forget to put it on. Im just extremely scared for surgery, and I’m starting to get close. I don’t think I would really ever recover, knowing that all the work that little me did, was all a waste. Im sorry but I literally type “scoliosis” just to find a video to rant on, so thanks for reading ❤️‍🩹
