These are the seven most common symptoms associated with scoliosis:
Postural change - This implies a change in the overall body symmetry. Patients with this symptom show uneven shoulders, hips, rib arch, waist, arms, and legs. Sometimes ribs can be facing forward on one side of the body and back on the other side.
Lung function - These patients often have lung impairment & shortness of breath. Patients often notice this symptom when doing some form of physical activity.
Body pain - Often manifested with back, neck or leg pain. As a patient's curves progress it creates more compression on their spine that manifests as pain. This is especially true in adult scoliosis cases as their curves become larger, which affects the discs in their spine, causing them to herniate or bulge as they are more compressed over time. This also causes degeneration of the spine, which also leads to pain.
Trouble sleeping - The asymmetry of the patient's spine and nerve compression makes it difficult for patients to find a comfortable position to sleep. Also, the lung impairment caused by an uneven spine would not allow patients to breathe properly and could manifest in trouble sleeping.
Digestive issues - As a patient curve increases, it also decreases the length of the torso, reducing the space available for the digestive system to work properly. It can also affect the spine's nerve system, which decreases the ability of certain organs to work as they should, making scoliosis patients more prone to digestive issues.
Menstrual cycle issues - For female patients, it is common for scoliosis to affect their menstrual cycle. Patients can experience irregular menstrual cycles due to compressed nerves of the spine. There could also be hormonal issues in scoliosis patients that could be affecting their menstrual cycle.
Balance issues - Scoliosis patients experience a loss of orientation of where their body is in space in addition to the pressure of gravity in their body over time. This is due to the shift scoliosis causes in their body. Patients with this symptom seem clumsy, sometimes even appear disoriented, and with balance issues.
Every case of scoliosis is different, and not every patient will exhibit these symptoms, especially children, who often do not show any symptoms at all.
The best you can do is to be proactive and not allow the curve to progress and work to keep the curve as small as possible.

I have wondered why there isn't a back clinic for yearly check ups. Just like the dentist. Considering how common back pain and scoliosis is, many things could surely be avoided. Imagine going to the dentist only at age 50 because you begin to have tooth pain. Back pain is so complex.

WOW, Dr. You have Nailed It! Only One Spinal Surgeon of the 6 I visited / consulted with in 2018-19 indicated that my Dextroscoliosis of 25 degrees "could cause various issues with other organs in the body....Many doctors count that short". The Spionbal surgeon was at Mt Sinai Spinal Center in NYC. I'm 71 YO, and sufferer of a number of spinal maladies which were spawnd by the trauma of a fractured right Femur in 1966 at age 15 (playing HS Football). My right leg is just over 1 inch short as a result of that injury. Now with Spinal Spondyliosis , Facet Joint Syndrome (laced with artrhritis), DDD, multiple sites of Stenosis, disc bulges and disc herniations, Military Neck. The SI joints are inflammed , some arthritis in the hips, [the left worse than the right], bone on bone in the right knee, OA in the left knee. The Cervical Spine has issues from C3-C7, T1 & T2 as well. T9-T10 disc herniations. I agree with your descriptions, bc the spinal issues are affecting my well being. Cervical Instabilities (CI) is affecting and contributing to Tinnitus, TMJ issues, Occipital pains & headaches, even IBS and Bladder/Bowel Incontinence. I have some difficulting breathing at times and have constant Stomcah Bloating for Years . I firmly believe that the Scoliosis is affecting the Diaphragm / Breathing and Digestion issues. I'm going to follow this channel, hoping for relief. BTW, all of the 6 surgeons I visited - all said : No Surgery ....way too much artghritis in the Lumbar spine, maybe if my neck becomes Unbearable a ADCF on the neck would be Considered.

30 yrs ago a car accident, Tbone, set off my scoliosis. Terrible pain in back as a 23 year old. It effects me still today, but started to get much worse. Winters are always a major issue. Cold and Wet. Thus year, age 50? Waay worse! I started having awful digestive issues, IBS a few years ago. When I’m in most pain, my bowels work less well. I wish doctors did more for my curve. I had X-rays at a chiropractor and can tell it is worse. So I just got hip and full spine X-rays at my provider. Im considering very srsly at applying for Disability because I cannot work a job in this condition. No way.

Would I be wrong to sue the emergency room I went to. I been experiencing massive pain in my back and they refused blood test and X-ray. I’m still in bad pain. I am 15 with lumbar scoliosis and it's definitely gotten worse since I was 13. I've been doing scoliosis yoga, breathing exercises, and I'm going to a general chiropractor but the issue is he treats people that have been in accidents not scoliosis. But he is the only person who will take our insurance and isn't out of this world expensive. I have a single mother of 4 that cannot take it all on her own.

I had an epideral that did not work when I was in labour birthing. I have scoliosis. It was administered a second time and did not numb or block pain. I basically had a natural birth.

im pretty sure a combination of untreated scoliosis bad posture when sleeping standing etc, and a a front tooth thats bigger than the left has made my body all sorts of messed up. 20 years finally realizing why my body is always in pain

Can scoliosis cause compression on the facial nerves
Scoliosis itself typically does not directly cause compression on the facial nerves. The facial nerves originate from the brainstem and exit the skull near the temple, traveling through the face to control muscles for facial expressions, blinking, and some aspects of taste. Scoliosis primarily affects the spine, and even in severe cases, the curvature of the spine is unlikely to reach high enough to compress the facial nerves.
I’m 69 and my back started getting crooked and my hips and then all of a sudden I couldn’t walk straight, I couldn’t stand up straight and it hurt to try! I also couldn’t breathe unless j walk bent over! It hurts!!! I feel like there’s no help for me.

I have 2 forms of levoconvex scoliosis in thorasic and lumbar spine. I broke my T12 spine and it been a year and I am noticing I am not going back to normal. My right shoulder is lower then my left shoulder too. I had epidural steroid injections which did not help at all and a kyphoplasty in the thorasic spine.
