Found out June 2023 throat cancer. 5 chemo treatments 33 radiation treatments started August 10th. My advice is get peg tube (feeding tube) before you think you need it. Last radiation September 27th. It is almost end April 2024 ct scans clean but still have ringing in ears, pain in jaw and teeth. Wish all that are going through this or have been through this best wishes. ❤

Hi Lee. I had a "sore throat," in June 2021. The doctors kept sending me to someone else. I got yanked around for almost a year. The labs would not do lab work on me because my blood pressure was too high. I just gave up. Then in July 2022; my pain was almost unbearable. My daughter got me some appointments and I was diagnosed with Head & Neck Squamous Cell Carcinoma stage 4a, 3 days after my 58th birthday; August 3rd, 2022. I would prefer to get "Targeted Therapy," or "Immunotherapy" but the FDA does not allow that. I started doing Chemo-Therapy, and refuse to do Radiation Therapy. I initially went to UCSF for treatment; because the small town I live in is limited for treatment. My first round of Chemo at UCSF put me into renal failure & I almost died. I took a month off & started Chemo again here in small town - don't like the idea of Chemo for the rest of my life. I went to UC Davis for a second opinion. They informed me that the FDA won't allow Immunotherapy. I keep researching & trying to get the treatment that I think would be best. I started 2023 Bald; I hope your journey is not as tough as mine. Be strong and use your "stubbornness" to your advantage - I am. I will pray for you. God is in control. I have no reason why He allowed this for me; but I know He has a reason.

      Hi James,
I am really sorry you had to go through all of that. I was very lucky in that I had a great ENT Specialist who took one look and strongly suspected it was throat cancer. She immediately walked me down the hall to an ENT surgeon and had him confirm her suspicions and then it was off to the races. I will be having her on for an interview in the near future. I don't really know anything about targeted and/or immunotherapy but I now have something else to look into. My big struggle now is getting the 1 year PET/CT post treatment scan. through the insurance company. I hope it starts to ease up a bit for you and I'm sure I speak for all of us on here, we certainly wish nothing but the best for you. Reach out any time!

      Hi Bobby,
I want to say it was 3-4 months after treatment that I started to truly "taste normally" and it improved from there until about 8 months or so. In my estimation, I have about 80% of my taste back. Things just taste... different? As far as the dry mouth, that seemed to improve along the same time line and at about 12 months I stopped noticing any improvement. Unfortunately do still have the dry mouth. I pretty much dont go anywhere without a water bottle any more.
