  • When I was diagnosed with cancer, I didn't know it was stage 4 cancer. And then when I found out, I still didn't like to tell people about it because it makes them freak out. I wanted to make this video to explain my situation to allow others to understand what it means and what is going on with me. Metastatic breast cancer at 22 is rare, but it can happen.

Samantha I'm happy that your doing well. Did you ever have the radical mastectomy? The longer I wait for a surgery date I'm starting to worry about it spreading to my lymph nodes. Now with another covid round I'm worried about surgeries being canceled. Not a good time to have cancer. I hope you have many years. Keep up your positive attitude!

I agree with everything you said Samantha. You described exactly what it’s like being a stage 4 cancer patient. I myself have been battling stage 4 metastatic breast cancer since 2014. I’m almost at the 6 year mark at the end of this month. I had a lumpectomy (originally stage 2 IDC) aggressive red devil chemo. Lost my hair after 2nd treatment. I’ve been on Taxol, Herceptin and currently was on Kadcyla. Like you I do scans every 3 months and treatment is for the rest of my life. Whether it be chemo , oral chemo meds or both. The survival rate of 5 years is around 22-27% I’ve been told. I’m no longer curable but treatable. We’re in the same boat. I pray your scans go well and keep on fighting girl. You got this 🙋🏻‍♀️🌸🙏🏼💪

Now has a CT Pet scan and told its in my spine. In months it has escalated to stage 4. I'm not sure what's happening now. Been waiting 2 months for radiotherapy but NHS in England UK is sooo slow. Have Hope! About ten years ago, I was in group therapy (for addiction issues). I had a friend in the group, A, whose girlfriend had Grade 4 lymphoma. I don’t think that he understood the grading system and that Grade 4 was the most serious type. Everyone in the group realized that her chances were not great. He remained positive and accepted that this was the way things were and he had total faith that she would survive. She had to have chemo every other week for six months. After six months she had scans and ALL the cancer was gone. She was in remission. It’s ten years later, they are married and the cancer has NOT returned!. I don’t know if their positivity had an effect on her successful outcome but it can’t hurt. Meanwhile, while everyone in our group expected that if someone died, it would be her. Sadly, a number of other seemingly healthy, young people died from accidental drug overdoses and one person committed suicide. No one knows when they are going to die so whether you have cancer or not I suppose all you can do is live each day as if it is your last. It sounds like this is what you are doing. Enjoy your life!

I've been dealing with a severe case of Lupus for 40 yrs and breast cancer for 20 years. Keep speaking about your cancer. Fear can be debilitating and it can drain away from the joy of living. Your voice is clear and untroubled will help others see that life goes on.
I enjoy every day... Even the bad days. Each time I have a set back (close call) life becomes ever more precious. Much has been taken from me but so much has been added to my life.

My husband is beginning his journey with stage IV-b DLBCL cancer. I‘be been diving head-first into learning as much as I can, and to say understanding cancer is complicated is an understatement!

Thanks so much for sharing your story. I'm a Stage 4 colon cancer survivor. My situation was a lot like yours. I had my colon cancer removed and I had one small spot on my liver that was inoperable. It was too close to the portal vein to resect so I had SBRT radiation to blast out that one small spot. Now I'm in remission and I've had my chemo port removed. I'm having CT scans every 6 months now with blood tests every 3 months to keep an eye on things. We're going to beat these statistics! GL to you!

It's great you talk about this straight I think, no need for sugar coating. you're a hero! there must be so many taboos and so much ignorance around stage 4 solid cancer. People can live so many years with this even if on medication (unfortunately as side effects are crappy), and as time progresses maybe they find a better cure in 5 years or so. It's good news though that it's so responsive to the chemo. up until half way into your video I was still hoping the rib would be some old fracture..... and then it disappeared with chemo.....

I admire your spirit so much. I subbed. I hope things continue to improve for you. Your attitude will greatly affect the outcome. My mom had breast cancer before all the new techniques. She lived an extra year more cause she was a fighter and wouldn’t stop her from living each day. My younger sister last year had aggressive cancer with a tumor involved. Today she’s cancer free and based on our family history she had both breasts removed.

Your videos have recently popped up into my recommendations and I am so glad they did. You are so brave going through such a scarey illness and being able to share and to help others by doing so.
Also can I just say you have a great energy, I just watched a few videos of you and your boyfriend one in the car , and you can just tell your both great people, I will be sending healing vibes and positivity your way.
I find it hard to accept things like this always happens to the best people, who really don't deserve it (not that anyone deserves it) but because your young aswell its a really good thing to spread awareness because people think it won't happen to them because they are young.
I live in the UK and we have a charity stand up to cancer and they say that 1 in 2 people will be affected by cancer in their lifetime, it was 1 in 3 but changed last year I believe, we just lost both grandparents to cancer within a month (different I know they'd lived a good life but it's still sad)
I really wish there was more the average person like myself could do other than donate to cancer research I don't know but I really hope one day there is a cure for cancer and all this devorstation stop's.
Much love your way girl 💓

Very sorry to hear that you have to deal with this. Cancer of any kind is the early 20s is very rare so it makes sense that it would be pretty advanced before being discovered. I would tend to think that being that young does help you survive because most of your body is fairly resilient.
