I'd also like to throw in Silver & Gold (by Phil Walker-Harding) as a recommended flip 'n' write. It's one everyone can play and enjoy. Basically a great gateway flip/roll and write.

    Great video. Cartographers is at the top for us, and with Heroes and the map packs a game is never the same twice. Silver & Gold and Super Mega Lucky Box are perfect for new gamers and they play lightning quick. We really like the theming of Floor Plan. We also really like BRIKKS which is like Tetris. Another one we have is Sonora, where you flick discs and, depending on where the disc lands, you score points in different regions on a map. It takes a lot of randomness out of the genre by flicking the disc exactly where you want it, but it has a bit of extra player interaction because your disc can be bumped away.

      HI Benjamin, thank you! Silver & Gold was close, and Super Mega we haven't played, hopefully one day :) A few others that you mentioned were on our short list. I (Stella) have played Sonora, was pretty fun. Thank you for sharing those games!

    Cartographers is one that I am really interested in. I've never heard of those "Clever" dice games but they sound fun. The roll & write style of game has really blown up over the past couple of years. I've only played a couple of the games on your list because I haven't found roll & writes as much fun as other games but you made many of these sound really fun. I think I remember your video about the Pinball game, too. That one is at the top of my list to try right now because I was an avid pinball player back in the day. And, of course, Dinosaur Island is a "must try"!

    • @MeepleUniversity
      @MeepleUniversity  Před 2 lety

      YOU ARE AN AVID PUNBALL PLAYER?? Wooow that's super super awesome! So you'd be one of thouse that scored the top on pinball machines that I always wonder..."wow how did it get to that"😁😍. Many talents there Carl!
      Ok sounds like if it's close to you, you'd like. Cartographer is so clever the way it plays. Yes to Dinosaur Island, but it can easily not a roll and write game, just the platform is something you tick and draw, hehe. But still in the category.

  • @procrastinatingperfectioni278

    Good to see the selections in this genre which does get a bad rap because the initial releases were on the lighter side. I would like to see some where there is a common board instead of individual ones, make a bus route I think does this.

    I'm late to this but I just got a copy of Fleet: The Dice Game. I love it, and in contrast to Cartographers, which isn't bad but which I didn't feel motivated to play after the initial few plays, I wanted to play Fleet TDG much more consistently. I should mention that I've only played each of those solo, so my valuation of these games could change if I ever get to play them multiplayer.
    But one thought on the claim of "simultaneous play" when playing these games..... I don't believe it. How can you REALLY trust that our opponent isn't making a mistake (or cheating). For that reason I think I prefer to play these games solo.

    • @MeepleUniversity
      @MeepleUniversity  Před 2 lety

      Hi Paul! Yasss never too late, hope you enjoy Fleet.
      Ah interesting, I guess Fleet lets you choose more of different path, rather than Cartographer which is different, "force" you in a different path. Im not saying in a bad way of course, but just the way it is maybe.
      I only have played Cartographer solo, via the app it's really good and easy to do.
      It's kinda the trust system I guess.
