Let's not forget Damon is a master of emotion. And that's not a diss. It's a beautiful thing. Whilst not having an amazing voice he has always been able to command and capture an audience. Look up his performance of Hong Kong (preferably from the Manchester opera house performance) or going back earlier To The End from Parklife or even Tender on Jimmy Fallon. He knows what he is doing and like any good artist he know's how to capture and engross the audience. And that is a very beautiful thing.
