"Now I can slice my finger on this crack without ads behind it." LOL
;)
I personally like the ads
why were you watching this video for then? haha
...it legit had no ads for 5 seconds then instantly swapped back TO ADS
This is the only tutorial that has worked for me. I feel like there were a couple of "fill in the blank" moments in the guide but they were easily Googled. Thank you kind sir!
This works like a dream. I've gotten rid of the lock screen ads on two 5th gen Fire 7s, a 5th gen HD8, a 7th gen Fire 7 and a 7th gen HD 8. Once I did first, the others took about a minute each. Many thanks!
Greetings and salutations! Hehehehe...totally awesome. Just picked our Fire 7 up this last week and didn't realize that we got the one with ads. This was a great tutorial and totally easy to follow. THANKS...you just saved us $60 to do this on the four that we purchased.
Thanks very much for this, it worked like a charm. Just as well as I have had my tablet for over a year with no ads. All of a sudden they appear and I was really annoyed at Amazon for messing up my machine. Thank goodness I could get rid of it with your help - Many thanks!
Better and more straightforward than any other guide, thanks!
Mutt Bunch thanks for the kind words. that's what I strive to do!
worked perfect.. Thanks for the tutorial. I got a fire 7 for my daughters birthday and she always clicked on the ads
LEGEND!!! This plus the device driver download from Tim McNamara saved me trying to find a replacement tablet. This was my only gripe with the Fire Tablet and now I am ad free. - Thank you so very much :0)
Ah!!!! I love you!!! Just got the 8th generation and these instructions worked like a charm ! Thank you thank you thank you!!!!
Works just tried. updated to newest version of fire OS before this and it still works. i used my PC to get the files. moved them onto a micro sd card put that card into my fire and used es file manager to install. i also used windows Powershell and used .\adb instead of adb and windows command prompt. i will stay posted if there is any ads after tonight. Thanks for the walkthrough.
Edit: ads came back in the morning. Did not work.
Same here. Everything went great. Even stated it was successful and all. Next morning BAM ads.
I just got my Kindle Fire today and was already annoyed by the ads! Dude, you save me $15 by doing this! Thanks.
I appreciate your straightforward directions! My fire is now ad-free!!
Worked like a champ. Thanks man! Waking up to my Kindle off every morning, instead of seeing my ActionTiles was getting old.
Thank you so much brother it worked for me, I just wanted to thank you.. great to start
up the tablet and not see any ads.
Thanks, I ordered my Fire without Ads and it came with ads, so this was nice to be able to turn them off.
thank you so much for this. I had to fish around and adjust some things on my windows to make it work but this helped a lot!
I love you man! This was driving me crazy, I paid full ticket for my tablet and I'd be willing to pay more to NOT have the stupid ads. I love how detailed your tutorial is as well as having all the required links and scripts in the description. FIVE STARS!
Thank you so much for this! Those ads were seriously annoying! The USB drivers for the tablet needed to be downloaded first. After that, it was smooth sailing!
I was worried about replacing my high-end older oasis with this one czcams.com/users/postUgkxCgPI5O2AtmcHq9SJhgsCGbpAzJAJfrJp but it is surprisingly light and the screen resolution is just as good. I never had the warm light on my old kindle, but i do not use it on the ipad so I will probably not need it. I think the only thing I'll miss is the self-adjusting light, but this is so worth it!
It worked, I have subscribed and liked. Thanks so much!
Good tutorial. The last thing I want to see is ads on my lock screen.
Outstanding. Worked perfectly after following the instructions for PowerShell.
Thank you Taylor, it worked like a champ. Excellent tutourial again.
Updated to current OS and still works. Thank you!
Taylor, Thanks for the tutorial Exactly what I was looking for. Also, Thanks to Tim McNamara for the tip on USB driver. I was stuck until I read your comment. Fire works great now and NO ADS
I used the adb command script and that works but amazon is wise to it and ad screen comes back within an hour. Is there an adb command to lock amazon out so they can't force any updates? We paid for these tablets and they belong to us to do as we please I don't think amazon should be allowed to force updates and ads on something I bought and paid for.....need a script to lock out further updates.....thank you...
Worked just fine with some help from the comments! Thank you so much!
Worked for me on Fire HD 10 (7th Generation). Thank you for taking the time and effort. :)
Will this work for the the new fire hd 10 with ads that come out Oct 11 2017
Worked first time on new gen 8 HD 8. Like the straightforward, easy instructions that even an eejit like me can follow. Cheers for delivering me from the he'll of Amazon ads. 👍👍👍👍
No ads! Thank you! SO HAPPY!!!
Thanks so much! I just did this to my tablet and it worked! Your awesome!
This worked great on both 7th generation and my HDX using Pumpkin's updated script. Thanks!
Worked for me with very minimal variations to the instructions. Thanks, for helping me remove the "Amazon Billboard" function!
worked great for me... one question which command should I use if i want to delete another app like the calculator or weather?
Thanks! Worked great on my new Fire 7 (7th generation). I couldn't bear to use it with those damn ads, now it's usable. Phew.
Nice tutorial. You deserve a new tablet.
Do you know how to get live wallpapers to run on the fire HD10 ?
Hi, I know this is an older vid but will this work on a Fire 8 HD 2022?
AWESOME!!! Thank you it worked, When I first got this kindle the ads were on the lock screen and I looked to youtube on how to remove it. Well, it recently underwent a new update and again with the ads on the lock screen. I couldnt remember the video i looked at the first time so I am glad I came across this one. Of course I had to stop and rewind a few times to follow, but pretty detailed steps and I am no techie so they were simple enough for me to follow! Thanks again!
how did you get the lockscreen wallpapers to change? @TaylorTech
+TaylorTech how to enable status bar name on Fire 7 Tablet? Mine is not showing since I purchased it.
Do you by chance know how to customize a picture to fit properly in the background/wallpaper? I tried and it's too zoomed in.
Hi this is great however when i get the comand window open and type adb devices i get a message saying it is not recognised as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file. is there anything i can do to get past this step and actually get the ads of my kindle? many thanks
Awesome. I had to check how to get the command prompt from another video. but this did work. Thanks again
Thanks @TaylorTech. It even worked on my 5th gen Kindle.
thanks was easy as you said.now no ads on lockscreen, thanks again
Hmm a problem, I did it all as you said, installed the drivers, device recognized, command gave back a success but after rebooting...no result, still seeing ads, tried 2nd time and now pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.amazon.kindle.kso returns 'failure [DELETE_FAILED_INTERNAL ERROR]' any idea?
Thank you good sir. Mine pulled up powershell, but I opened cmd and changed the directory to where i had the folder.
@TaylorTech how do I stop the auto update ?
I did this. it worked for a while then the adds came back and i had to do it cagain. is this soming i'm going to have to do often?
I have Fire HD 8 7th gen. 5.6.0.0. All going well, said ''succes'' , but after reboot, ads still on screen! Any idea?
Thanks for the helpful hack! Got my kindle fire for free from an electronics dumpster so now, with no ads, I'm not sure it could get any better unless I reformatted the whole thing to run more like an android.
Do you know if this works on a Fire HD 10?
Haha hacking the system! Thank you very much, today I received my Fire 8 and realized that there were these annoying ads; had some troubles because my pc didn't recognized my tablet due to a "MTP problem", found a guy on CZcams who helped me and finally got my pc recognizing the tablet... all I have to say is thank you, I've saved $15!, greetings from Costa Rica :D
+Giancarlo Cruz glad it worked out!
You mind if I ask who helped you? In Device manager my Fire 8 is showing as MTP and the above isn't working so I assume I have a similar issue?
I had the same issue and was able to download a new driver here:
developer.amazon.com/public/resources/development-tools/ide-tools/tech-docs/05-setting-up-your-kindle-fire-tablet-for-testing
Dang! Did not read the other comments on here, i went with pm uninstall and not pm clear.... now when i return to the adb shell and add in: pm clear -k --user 0 com.amazon.kindle.kso it says it "failed" to do so... am i to late?
wow this works great! for those a cmd window doesn't show use "cd" command to locate your folder on DOS.
Simplest way to get rid of the ads, THANK YOU!
Worked like a charm.... exactly the same steps as described in the video. PERFECT
except ads are still there. will try again and read comments. --- used that clear instead of uninstall and that DID work.
YAY!
After I thought I removed the lock screen ads they came back. I went and repeated what I did in the earlier post and got errors. Is there a fix for the 7th Gen Fire HD's?
Million thanks! This worked like a charm!
Totally worked, so easy THANK YOU!!!!
hello there,
it said success, but when i rebooted it, its still showing me the adds. later i tried repeating the same procedure, but not its showing me failed internal error in the command window. how can i proceed ahead,
Do you know how to do this on a Mac?
I emailed Amazon customer service. I told them my Fire 10 tablet was a gift (it was), that the ads were annoying and the ads were for apps I was not remotely interested in. I asked them to disable the special offers and waive the $20 fee for this long time customer. Received a reply a few hours later stating they were disabling the special offers "as you are a valued customer to Amazon" and they waived the fee. All I needed to do was toggle the tablet's wifi.
This is not as sexy as the solution offered in the video, but one that I was more comfortable with. Also this direct approach may be an option for those that were not able to get the video solution to work.
yep, same here. Thank you Amazon support center!
trying this now. Thanks for suggestion.
@@carlhammill5774 same for me, call customer Service and they will do it boom. It was a gift and I don't think it was even bought through amazon as they went out of stock after thanksgiving. Thank you Amazon~
very helpful, keep up the great work!
Good morning I try the step a keep getting error Failure [DELETE_FAILED_INTERNAL_ERROR] any help. FIRE10 HD OS5.6.2.0
Does this still work will current software? And with future updates?
Thank you. Ill have to remember this when i get my fire 10"
I followed the steps up until plugging the kindle to the computer. Once I plug it into the computer, I cannot see the link that pops up on the screen. What should I do next? thanks!
Many many thanks..Appreciate your work.
I'm not getting "Open command window option" nor "PowerShell"
even if I go to command from windows button and type the same thing it says it doesn't recognize it, any ideas?
go to Amazon's website, scroll to the bottom, click on "Help" then "More" and talk to a live representative. tell them "the ads are intrusive and not kid friendly." be NICE. and if they say "it will be a 15 dollar charge." tell them no thanks. they'll ask what else they can do for you, then you just say the same thing. "could you please make them less intrusive?" they'll "talk to a manager" and then they'll "waive the fee" and turn them off immediately. you can do all of this online, without physically speaking with someone. very easy, very quick. and it works.. i literally just got done doing it.
I tried this on my sons tablet and as everyone else said, they come back. IS there anyway to revert the changes that were made via cmd? It still tries to run it whenever it starts up
No sure if anyone asked already, but will those ads return if and when you another system update?
Thank you thank you thank you!! Was hours away from returning back to Best Buy. Didn't know ads were apart of the Fire HD series and paying a hundred and sixty for a tablet with ads is ridiculous. Did the launcher fix as well and it's even better than the Galaxy Tabs. Just wish I could get rid of all of the bloatware that came with it. Thanks again!!! (Ads came back after an hour) Tried the suggestion at the top of the page and so far it's working. Will update later. (Nope. Both times ads came back)
I tried this but the first link failed. I read on down and repeated it after driver installation with the second link and SUCCESS! Next day ads have returned! :( I've a Fire 8HD. Any suggestions?
i do all this and it works however after switching off for the second time and powering back on the ads come back. i am using nova launcher as my default startup
hi i only got a mac book is any way for mac users?
If I remove the adds from the lock screen will I still need to swipe the screen after coming out of sleep mode??
Just tried it. No dice. Went through the entire procedure, ending with "Success", rebooted, and there was the ad.
will this work for the new fire 10"?
So umm... It doesn't appear to be a permanent fix because after about an hour without ads they started showing up again. Can this be permanently fixed?
Does this works for the Fire HD 10 (2019)?
At the date of making my comment here, the process worked with some minor issues.
1. In case your PC does not "see" your Fire Kindle, i.e. the Fire does not show up under Device Manager list under the USB, then may need to install kindle fire drivers. Do that first and reboot computer.
2. Before or just after opening the Command window, double-click i.e. open the adb app in the folder downloaded from the google docs. This allows the PC to recognize the adb command. More specific, the PC shortcut common technique is opening the Command Window while inside the folder i.e. the folder with add app front and highlighted and then Shift-right click for opening.
3. As suggested by another commenter, use the line
pm clear com.amazon.kindle.kso
instead. This worked for me.
Curious, even after an update in September 2017, I am still on version 5.4.0. But I am not complaining so long as I have no more (irrelevant) ads on the locked screen.
Thank you for the extra tips! The initial steps in the video didn't do the trick, but when I used your alternate code it worked like a charm. I am very pleased!!
I also had to use the abouve command and not the one stated in the video.
Your line worked for me 5.6.0.0
Thank you for your advice! your alternate line of code worked for me :D
Well, it worked for a few hours, and then the ads came back.
Are you sure there are no viruses or malware in the download for your computer? I'm always a little nervous about unknown links.
LEGEND! Thanks for the help!
NICE!!
Did this on a Fire tablet (5th gen, running FireOS 5.4.0.0), and worked perfectly.
(I did run into the issue of Windows Powershell not recognizing the "adb devices" command, but I found in the comments that all I had to do was run "cmd" first, and then follow the rest of the steps. Everything worked fine.
Thanks!! Saved be 15 bucks. :D
Whats weird is I have 2 5th Gen's, had this done when I got them 2 years ago. I did a factory reset and went to do it again and I can only get it to work on one of them. So weird.
What do you do if the Fire is showing up under portable devices instead of USB controllers in the device manager? The command prompt didn't find my device...
Mine did this too... download the device driver that is pinned at the top and try again. It will find your device in the command prompt once the driver is installed (will still show as "portable device" though).
I am typing in adb devices but its saying adb term is not recognized?? I might be missing something but video is to blurry.(2:57 of the video)
did you make sure the drivers are installed? Also, if you watch in 1080p it won't be blurry :)
Great tutorial! comments have work-a-rounds in case anyone is stumped. I'm doing this to 6 of these bad boys for an audio rig! ;)
Where can I get the command that he copies and pastes towards the end??
Excellent video. Simple. Nice. Short.
So... I successfully removed the ads, but, they came back a few days later. Thoughts?
Well just tried on 50$ kindle I got an internal error after I used the script so I am not sure what to do
They seem to have fixed rthat with 5.6, as soon as I uninstall the ads, it gets downloaded and installed again by the tablet automatically
when i run the uninstall command i get "Failure [DELETE_FAILED_INTERNAL_ERROR]"
Great video. What's the script to uninstall factory applications?
Worked perfect. Thank you.
You are a star. Thank you so much for this video
