  • The idea of this video is to give a bit more of an in-depth look into the performance of this new rig and just what you should expect if you're thinking about buying one.
    This was run against TRX4s, Element Enduros and an FMS Atlas, all of which have been modded. The Gladius was 100% stock and still more than held its own on every piece of terrain that we encountered.
    The FTX Outback Gladius has got it all and for very small money.
    Portal axles
    Two-speed transmission
    Lockable differentials
    Metal links
    This thing looks amazing and feels like great quality.
    It's retailing for under £300, so that's incredible value.
    If you want to get one, please support your local model shop but if you don't have anywhere nearby then here's a link to a UK retailer that you can trust.. (I'll get a tiny commission to help keep the channel going, so buying through this is very helpful)

    Thanks for watching!

    Useful video, many thanks, got mine now, but it had a faulty steering servo, so now replaced and all good. Starting by modifying the body to look a bit more scale with 3d printed parts- rear bumper, extinguisher, fuel can, door handles, wing mirrors.

      @rcpie  Před 7 měsíci

      Cool, you'll have to post some pictures in the FTX Outback Facebook group when you've got it detailed up.
      I'm trying to decide what to do with the body as I'm not that keen but the truck is excellent.
      I don't want to add a bumper as the rear overhang is probably its biggest dimensional problem for performance.

      Yeah. I was really impressed. It's not as smile-inducing as some really fun rigs like my Range Rover or a hard body but it's certainly very capable.
      If only it looked nicer, it'd be the goto choice for loads of people. It's a bit of an ugger if truth be told. 😕

    The Gladius is noisy, but might be a lack of grease well little to none in places on mine. I have just regreased it and will see if it's quieter next run. The tyres are good, got some metal wheels coming for it, nice they are not glued like my Fury was. The ESC is not great, but I think partly the radio as well. Mine has a very sensitive reverse, I have reversed the motor wires and the radio to see if it makes it a little better.

    • @rcpie
      @rcpie  Před 6 měsíci +2

      I reversed the motor wires and channel. A tiny improvement but still not good.
      I think the main cause of noise is that it's a metal spur gear.
      The tyres aren't bad at all but put on some Prolines and you'll see a difference.

      @@rcpie So your ESC was the same, I will see how it runs. I would check the grease as the axles the crown wheel front and rear bone dry. The portals a little better, main gearbox dry as well.

    I drove a friend's Gladius recently and done a vid in it. I really enjoyed the car overall, very capable, the servo as you said is very good for an rtr. 2 things i didnt like right out of the box, 1. The 1040, the reverse is harsh amd quite twitchy. Did you find thar on yours? Tyres i'd also change, i personality didn't like the stock tyres

    • @rcpie
      @rcpie  Před 7 měsíci +2

      Yeah, I think those are very fair points. I'll certainly not be keeping either of those stock but I want to give it a real expedition outing before changing anything.

    Nice video, that is some scenery. I do think they need to stop putting the Hobbywing 1040 in all these crawler vehicles it was never made for crawling, you really should have some kind of adjustment on the drag brake as well

    • @rcpie
      @rcpie  Před 8 měsíci

      There is an adjustable drag brake with control from the dip switches on the transmitter but I don't think it's strong enough for the weight of the truck.

    good video, nicely done. I recently got a cross NT4 unimog but should of got the FTX, i have the Fury 2.0 modded up with heavy wheels, 1080 and better motor, also on fury i moved battery to front position fixed to RX box and now its a pretty decent rig

    • @rcpie
      @rcpie  Před 6 měsíci +1

      Thanks.
      I've always fancied a Cross but everyone that gets one seems to spend so much time and money trying to get them how they want them, I think I'm better off buying 3 alternatives instead.
      The Fury 2 strikes me as a nice platform for what I like to think of as innocent, fun crawling. My Carisma RR feels like that.

      Thanks, Neal.
      My Tracker/Rescuer needs a strip down but once that's done, I hope to get a comparison done.
      They're very different rigs, though, despite the specs on paper. The body and the overhangs are going to make the Gladius more of a performer but less of a scale joy. And those Tracker shocks are just lovely for the plushest of rides.

  • @mrbbonkers
    @mrbbonkers Před 6 měsíci +1

    It arrived! I can't see how to adjust the drag brake. It is always 100%. Any ideas? The switches on the controller don't seem to do anything. Thanks ❤❤

    • @rcpie
      @rcpie  Před 6 měsíci

      I gave up. The drag brake wasn't so great but it wasn't the worst I've got. It was the low end modulation that was worst, especially in reverse.
      The speed controller is the only thing that I'd suggest needs to be changed ASAP. Everything else performs well.
      Having said that, I still thoroughly enjoyed it 100% stock and I'm sure you're going to have an absolute blast!
