Wicked is the second highest grossing musical of all time beaten only by Lion King. I think Jeff is underestimating its appeal.
I don’t like the wizard of oz. I have been subjected to the wicked soundtrack many times long time ago. And even I was definitely willing to see wicked from the initial teaser. But idk about that last one. It was a coin flip.

I was one of those who were stunned to see that no major reactors uploaded a video about the Megalópolis trailer. To the point that I even started to wonder if that all-out-war on Coppola from the studio people has been extended also to the CZcams community, going against the movie and/or Coppola. To me It seemed... Weird.
All they care about is traffic, not what is actually notable

Straight guy here. Love Wicked and loved that trailer. But I can admit I’m one of few straight guys that probably has much interest. And that’s fine.
The thing with stuff like spacey and franco, I 100% believe there *should* be paths back, but it does *not* feel like they *actually* do the work. Most actors response to poor behaviour is to go hide for 5 years and hope no one notices when they get cast in something. Come out and publicly acknowledge your wrongdoings, become a vocal advocate for the stuff you were doing incorrectly, *Something* . It feels so *predictable* that an actor goes over to europe for a few years and slink back without facing up to anything. I reiterate, I think you should be able come back from bad behaviour that can be corrected, take a look at Dan Harmon I still think his apology is the gold standard for no-bullshiting, but not everyone is *owed* this shit.
(also are we forgetting that two of kevin spacey's accusers got boeing'd)

Amazon needs to quit trying to make MGM+ a thing. Same with Stars+ & Showtime+ & AMC+. All of those are going to be consumed by the larger giants very soon. Speaking of the streaming giants, where already have 2 competing bundles leaving Amazon & Paramount & Sony as the only 3 kids not picked for the team it would seem to make sense for them to partner somehow and create a competing bundle of their own.
Dune Prophecy is the 2nd movie spin-off show that HBOMax has greenlit if you include The Penguin. I would expect more of this from WB if it continues to be successful.

As for that Sydney Sweeney / Barbarella announcement, I created a comic last year that was Barbarella influneced and I had Sydney Sweeney as who I will have attached as the main character for that comic book so I hope that Barbarella movie happens with her. But yes, it should be more sexed up. That is what I had in mind when I was making my comic.

I wonder how well Wicked will do internationally, I get the impression that musical is not that well know outside of the US, execept a couple of countries like the UK, but I could be wrong. The only musicals that have become big hits worldwide in the last 20 years are often Disney live action + animated (due to having the name recognition) or unexpected hits like Wonka or the greatest showman. As Jeff said, this movie will have to rely heavily on the femaile audance showing up (+ has to compete with Moana 2 for that demographic). It could be a surprise hit or a missive flop.

Jeff, I’m a straight man who is excited for Wicked. I’ve seen the show and love it. Not all straight men have the exact same interests as you and your brothers or friends. Why is that hard to believe?
He didn’t say NO straight men. He said he doesn’t see A LOT of straight men going to see it. There is a difference here, brother, and it’s just his opinion. He also said he might be proven wrong on that and have egg on his face when the box office receipts come in. It’s all good, man.
I get that it’s his opinion and he’s welcome to it. And I’m not coming at him, just disputing his point. It just seems to be a consistent theme that he comes back to and I think it’s little silly and dated, that’s all. His brothers and friends may have a more limited, stereotypical straight male scope of interest in terms of movies, but it’s 2024. I think lots of straight men are watching more than just serial killer and sports movies. Big fan of you both. Keep up the great work!

Movie versions of great stage musicals make me nervous. If the reviews are good I will see Wicked in the theatre but we could get another Les Miserables or worse Dear Evan Hansen.
Jeff, Absolutely should take on that story. its hard to judge HONEST reporting now a days, would love to read it and see both sides.
As a straight dude, I'd rather watch a show about the Bene Gesserit on Max than anything having to do with _Wicked._ Also remember when people were skeptical about GoT, then _Peacemaker,_ then HotD, then TLoU. The _Dune_ saga is great mature IP with deep established lore and fan following. Warner Bros/Legendary know they have the sci-fi equivalent of _The Song of Ice and Fire,_ and luckily HBO Max also knows how to make a TV series better than anyone else.
I'm so straight it's hard to watch Wicked. Only gay people watch Wicked. Not me I'm Straight so I love Dune. Dune is my favorite cause I'm Straight. Remember folks your sexual orientation decides what you can watch.
Sydney Sweeny/Edgar Wright Barbarella sounds amazing to me. Don't know why people are online are treating it like a sacred cow. Wright can really elevate that material.

I do not see edgar wright being the right energy for barbarella he is way not horny enough, where is the Rose Glass version of this? What about Luca Guadagnino I am not saying it has to be a woman (just be the right fit). Wright has a terrible track record already with female characters (yes I know he is not writing this). Also, i think if deadpool is successful they give Levy secret wars, not xmen.

Isn’t it tough though because just before Barbie Margot Robbie was being spoken of as not being a draw as both Birds Of Prey and Babylon shit the bed at the box office. If no-one is a name big enough to act as a definite draw then please god make it come down to who is actually good in the roles they are given.
Sofia Coppola is a more consistent and coherent filmmaker than her father Francis ever was. I do however enjoy Francis' wine...he should stick to that!
