Saw your car at Importalliance, it was really cool to see it in person. Thank you for making this series pretty much set on buying a brz / frs at this point and to see how accessible this swap is. Has me thinking it will be the route I want to go long term with one.

@bennyang8049 yeah I can no problem in TN. They don't even look at your car. As long as the title is clean they will register anything.

Damn. Great video. I'm looking to buy a frs and go k also. As a somewhat retired CZcamsr I appreciate all the shorts and the amount of time it must have taken to keep setting up the camera. Approximately how much did everything cost (excluding the motor)
Thanks man. Filming definitely slows down the process. I'd say about 11k the motor is the cheapest part.
@Trip SkyWalker Well there go my hopes and dreams of doing this myself 🥲. Unless I'm mistaken and the cost of the 86 is a large portion of that 11K? 🤞
@@mattbrown7935 no lol. A FRS cost 10k+ easily. A kswap FRS would cost like 25k to make.
@Aleem Yeah that was a stretch and a half, I still plan on getting an 86 though as they can be found for around 8-9K here in England
@@mattbrown7935 I'm talking USD. Even with a 8k car, you'll still need another 10k for all the swap parts. The motor alone is around 1k then all the adapters and wiring stuff will add up plus the transmission. That's what I estimate I'll pay when I start my swap 20-25

The stock trans does just fine for my power output & I don't have any current plans to up the power by much
Was that the oem transmission with a adapter plate? And if you could guesstimate a cost?
yes its the oem trans. Full cost is around 12k ish

What transmission is it mated to? Is it the s2k trans with an IRP short shifter?
No its still the factory FRS trans. ..You can mount a s2k trans but the shifter ends up almost in the dash.
How many hours of labour would you say it takes to complete the install?
I think someone who knows what they are doing can maybe do it in 30 to 40 hours.

Too much ha.. I have around 12k in the swap.
Good lord I wish Toyota would’ve done something like this from the beginning. They have plenty inline 4 cylinder engines. Why on earth did they go with Subaru ugh.

No. I have way to much time & money to get rid of it.

Did the stock engine give out that's why you went with a K swap?
No I actually never had any issues out of it. Even after a ton of track days. But I new that wouldn't last forever.
@@TripSkyWalker how many miles have you put on the FA before swapping it to a K?
@@RR-cg2rq It only had 67k on it. Selling the lowish mile FA helped Fund the Swap.
@@TripSkyWalker is a k swap on an FRS cheaper than forging the engine and adding a turbo?
@@RR-cg2rq eh, purpose of k swap is more power in the long run OEM engine would give out really fast f swap is known to last being turboed
