Looks like a big improvement over the original Switch, but not big enough for me to warrant another Switch purchase. I wish they released a more powerful Switch instead
I dont think it we will have to wait too much to see a Switch 2, as the Switch lifespan is already advanced.
no it doesnt.....it's the same thing
@@Linkchidori yeah 2022 seems to be the final big switch year
@@pres002 Sorry for the last comment, it was a mistake hahaha. However, i must say that while its the same internals, a better screen should look better. If i didn't have a Switch already i would probably buy it, but having one means its not really necessary
I feel like 2023/2024 will be the year we see a brand new generation of Switch
Luigi’s Mansion 3 would be a great game to test those contrasts.

@@jkeezy93 bruh oled uses less power. You stoopid.
Good stuff, thanks. I am a "mature" gamer (74 years old) with poor eyesight and arthritic hands. Currently I use the Switch Lite for handheld gaming. I have problems reading the text on-screen so I am hoping the OLED will be clearer? However it looks pretty bulky, I wonder if I will be OK playing it in handheld mode?
The screen is huge - and very vibrant! Especially compared to the switch light and it is a bit heavier, but it still weighs under a pound and it’s both thin and sleek ☺️ It should also be an upgrade in battery life to allow for longer periods of gaming.
He did a comparison too that you can find here: czcams.com/video/AXpqzBoQqnE/video.html

Oh. My. God. Finally someone who goes immediately into the discussion of the OLED display and immediately, clearly answers the question of real black or not. Give this man all your money.
By the way, if you're reading this, test NES and SNES games, there's where the screen really shines because so many games use black plus they're not Fullscreen.
WOW IMAGINE BUYING AN OLD REVISION JUST TO PLAY EMULATED ROMS LMAO
@@breathofthewild1749 What a dumb thing to say. Do you even know how many people buy retro handhelds in all kind of variations? As a Vita OLED owner. I can't wait to get an OLED Switch. The difference between OLED and normal LCD screen is night and day. Playing 2D games on handheld Switch would be dope just like on the Vita
I modded my lcd vita with a color adjustment app that gets it real close to the oled hues... was driving me nuts after my oled on died... greens and reds were just off...
When I saw my brother's original switch, I was like, what's up with this screen?? this shouldn't cost 370$. Lite was announced and got it. Good Price for hand-held mode. I preorder the oled and giving the lite to my wife. Bezels, colors and screen is sick. FFx will be amazing. better than it looks on my vita. Can't wait for October for it to arrive.... Can't wait!!! Plus the stand playing co-op like biped, Death Squared, Shift Happens, Lego games and so forth on the bed without worrying it might fall... They just fixed everything but the horse power. But finally the OLED is the right switch!!
Keep in mind the OLED on Vita was a "cheap" 2012 screen. It is likely the Switch OLED screen will be WAY better
@@ThibautMahringer mine had that notorious adhesive smearing between the glass and the panel that many early adopters had...
@@ThibautMahringer Yeah every OLED Vita has this mura effect from how they were originally manufactured. If you don't know what that is then it's this weird splatter/dotted pattern that's visible when the screen is black or with certain colors. It's a physical appearance and isn't to be confused with burn in.
Possible to ignore, but pretty annoying tbh especially when black levels are supposed to be one of the main advantage on OLEDs.
Thankfully the Switch is more modern and should be better quality. If it's on par with the OLED on my phone then I'll be satisfied.
Glad to hear it’s a glass screen this time around. That itself is a pretty big improvement that wasn’t mentioned before. I know glass screen protectors have gotten a lot cheaper in recent years, but I still personally hate using them because I am crazy OCD when it comes to getting it put on perfectly.

If you don't already have one, then an oled will be the one to buy - unless you game outside a lot.
But is all of that worth it if you already own a switch? No!
... I'm still gonna buy it tho
I’d say it’s worth it if you have one of the original models that can be homebrewed. Use the OLED as your main switch and home brew the old one.

When you showed that Link's Awakening Switch it makes me so salty that Nintendo STILL hasn't patched the game and it doesn't appear they have any plans of doing so. Link's Awakening is a nearly perfect remake but those performance issues with frame dips seem like something Nintendo would try to fix especially for a first party Zelda game.
Developed by Grezzo, not by Nintendo
Game dev here. Have you considered the fact it might not be fixable, that the switch hardware is just so outdated that it can barley handle it? You can't just "patch" performance issues.
@@lolo-kp1le We're talking about Link's Awakening here. Nowhere near as heavy as Breath of the Wild. The fact that they not once tried to release a patch is their fault, not just because hardware can't handle it.
@@lolo-kp1le But is it possible to lower the value of "stuff" to fix these performance issues though? I feel that applying this in the sections that the FPS drop happens would be enough to fix these issues.
Frame dips aren't really a big issue for that game or BOTW. There many just small annoyances
Kevin, pop open the dock and see what chipset is in there that can be updated via firmware. I’m trying to figure out why nobody seems interested in this that has that new dock… 😅
yes please do
No switch Pro in there lol
I reckon they made some updates in the dock but didn’t market it because “nintendo”
This is done in order to get more views on each video he releases. We're all interested on the new dock. I am still expecting the "oh, they have updated the resolution via the dock".
That's one of the main things I'm wondering. lol
very impressed with the quality of your videos. colors look great and sound is amazing! content is fantastic too!! keep up the great work!
With regard to the sound - the enhanced sound is really only apparent when playing in Tabletop mode. The audio bounces and creates a surround sound effect very similar to the oddly satisfying Surround Sound setting of the 3DS, which was positional based as well.
I know that with the switch’s most recent firmware update, your dock has the option to update. Can you compare the docs and see if there is a difference between the experience? Or even just put them side by side so we can see the differences in the internals or something. Thanks
Helllllo
I looked it up on the Nintendo support site, sadly the Oled dock alone can update and not the original dock unless you can and I got lied to by nintendo itself

@@chonk1498 it seems like it can, otherwise what’s the point of the “update dock firmware button” on the non-OLED switch? Although I might have misunderstood your question.

Finally you’re back on the board!! You got the views dude!! Holy cow
I can’t believe how people said about how bad the OLED Model was in the beginning. Then on preorder day, the preorders sold out and now everyone wants it. That is a sussy baka move
pretty sure that most that think bad about the OLED still do. Personally I own a switch and that in itself warrants not getting the OLED model. There just isn't enough of a difference between the models to justify upgrading, especially if you use the switch docked the majority of the time. If I didn't have a switch then sure, I would get the OLED one.
The people being disappointed in it were banking on a significant upgrade in terms of performance and that won't really change. One thing people often forget is that even if there is a big outcry or people being displeased by something that doesn't mean everyone thinks the same about it. If I like something I am less inclined to go online and tell everyone how much I like that new product and thus oppositions seem larger than they might be.
There are a lot of idiots out here.

You should be OK - oleds have improved enormously over the years and its unlikley you would see anything for at least 5 years, and one might hope they do a proper upgrade by then. For comparison, think about the numerous high end phones that use oleds. You don't see many people moaning about burn in on the phones cause its not really an issue.
I'm a little concerned about that too. My Galaxy S7 had burn-in bad, and even my newer Note 9 has the same problem. But both of those phones were used to drive rideshare all day for 6 days a week (for over a year per phone), so Google Maps icons are burned in very obviously. Hopefully if we change which games we're playing every few hours or only play for a short time each day it won't be a problem. I'm just worried about the Switch home screen burning in because it's so static.
I've use many oled phone and i can tell you,, playing high brightness everyday will make the screen have burn in in a year or 2.. but if you always play at 50% brightness and below ,, it will never have burn in..

Excited for mine in 2 weeks. Having every mm for my screens is everything for me and my aging eyes, even wear glasses so every tiny bit goes a long wave for me. But my god that screen looks amazing. That’ll help aswell too.
I hear you! I'm 45 and still play. I've always liked the Nintendo and now I can enjoy a nice day because I can take the Switch with me. I have to admit, the bigger screen is nice but on a 60 inch TV it's even better, maybe easier for my old eyes.
4:30 they did actually move the speakers so that they were emitting more sound towards you and thus giving more audio clarity

Damn here you can see a LOT of difference.
I never noticed the old switch look so bad.. (compared to oled)
Putting aside the obvious screen improvement with the OLED, would you recommend most users upgrade to the OLED model? Or will the original suffice if, say, you’ve had it less than a year? From what I see, the differences aren’t justifiable enough to switch (pardon the pun) to the OLED model.
Yes
OLED is insane
Now i own Switch Lite and it was really compatible to carry around but when they announced new switch with OLD screen. Damn, the quality of screen make craving it!
I definitely don't plan on buying one, but I definitely noticed that even though I never really dropped my switch that it still developed cracks in the plastic, so having a tougher design is pretty good.
Has anyone tried the OLED with the flip grip accessory for vertical games? It was already a snug fit on the original model, but pinball and vertical shooters would look great with the new screen.
there's one important question - did they keep the joycon drift (TM) feature?! it's a very important feature and pretty much the definitive iconic mark of the switch family, please tell me they kept that feature, cos all my 4 joycons drift now, I can't bear to have another 2 that don't get long with the rest of their ilk.
Yes can't wait to get mine just paid it off today.
Thanks for uploading
One question important to me is how does the OLED version perform outside in bright conditions? I found that due to the OG Switch having a very reflective and not very bright screen it was basically not usable in bright outdoor conditions.
The screen is brighter, so it might do better.
A lot of reviewers say it's *slightly* more dim outdoors, but still playable by far.
Personally, I'm interested if the Switch OLED uses an RGB or PenTile subpixel arrangement. PenTile saves on specific subpixels, which could have an effect on the sharpness of the display.
My OLED knowledge is quite rusty, but doesn't pentile only make sense for high PPI screens ? I remember when the Galaxy S4 came out. The S4 had a 5 inches 1080p pentile display, but the S4 Mini had a 4.3 inches 960x540 rgb display
Probably rgb.
I can’t wait to get mine I just hope the pro comes out soon!
Oh the sadness over the Satisfye grip 🥲 hope they work out a version for this one. I'm upgrading from Lite and I can't imagine life without their grip.
Agreed. I'm sticking my launch switch because of this. Probably would have anyhow since no performance increase but this cinched it for me. Yes, the grip is only like $20 but I have the case and if they come out with a new one it may not fit, etc.
Fun Fact: Nintendo never promised nor Said by any means that they are already developing a more powerful version of Switch..
I hope that they call the more powerful one "Super Nintendo Switch" and not "Switch Pro"
That's the kind of excuses you regular fanboy would say to defend bad corporate practices. You are part of the problem.
@@desmondlau1385 still, Nintendo didn't promise anything 🤷
@@desmondlau1385 Yup a typical reply from a bird in an echo chamber parroting the "Corporate incompetence" without even the proper knowledge on how the industry properly works.. Come back with a proper argument rather than ad hominems.
@@vivid8979 the industry is fine until you fanboys came along and weight down the global average IQ. Stop having an orgasm everything you are screwed by corporate will ya?
Speaking of accessories, is this dock any less likely to scratch the screen? Or do you think the switch from plastic to glass on the screen make that a non-issue anyway?
If it has infact switched from plastic to glass, then that should be a non-issue
Glass cannot be scratched by plastic, this is scientifically impossible. But the back could still be scratched by the dock if it still use hard plastic
@@rcinema4711 it did, it was confirmed
I’ve been told the dock is now lined with almost silicone like padding
Glass will crack see it now crybabies
You are the best Kenson! What about the new dock? Do you think there is additional hardware into it? Maybe with future 4K & DLSS enabled?
A couple of things I want to see:
1. Battery life against 1st and 2nd gen switch, switch lite
2. Are the old dock compatible with the oled switch? Are there any difference in the old and new dock?
3. Bluetooth and wifi signal strength, are they improved in any way or similarly weak like the older switch?
4. Thermals, any difference in the thermals when running on oled switch vs old switch? Some games do run hot on my old day 1 switch (e.g. Diablo 3).
My biggest concern when it comes to the OLED display isn't resolution or contrast, it's image burn-in. Particularly things like health bars and other HUD elements
I really have to advocate that the technology behind OLED has advanced many times over these last several years.. Burn-in is hardly a talking point anymore within tech communities. I play hundreds of hours on my Sony 65" from 3 years ago and not a hint of burn in. No stress!
@@MistaZipps are lots in the tech communities running slides to check there is no burn in or just not noticing it during normal usage? Obviously if you have to run slides to see it then it isn’t a big deal, but you might be surprised by what you see.
@@donpablo838 you make a solid point about a forensic approach, but the average consumer with normal usage shouldn't suffer from this much, or at all. Healthy (and recommended) practice of major screentime would say most people should be adjusting the brightness up and down again, circumstantially. If you're blasting at 100% brightness I'm the dark for several hours playing Tetris where the same box is on screen, or the hud/display of a shooter, you should just think more consciously and not push limits 24/7. What I'm getting at, is there should be natural reason to give the screen a break now and again.. I've personally had about 20 OLED devices over the last decade from TVs-phones-tablets, and never have experienced this on a single device. I find it to be a buzzword that people shoot out there for curiosity sake, but rarely have I encountered anyone who's been burned.. literally.
There's a guy on CZcams that's tested burn in for thousands of hours. He put on a static image and there's no burn in
I can hardly believe burn in is still a thing. I remember it was a big problem with Plasma Screen TVs back in the day, but even then you would have to play for several hours before it became a problem. I remember I did have one friend with permanent Zelda Hearts in the corner of her plasma screen, but other than that I personally have never witnessed any burn in. Even back then you had to have a still image on screen for several hours before it caused a problem. I feel like one would have to leave and OLED on for an absolutely ridiculous amount of time for burn in to happen.
8:28 seconds of me holding back my jealousy of my boy having the OLED Switch so early.😆
Pre ordered this for my daughters Christmas present.. she's gonna be over the moon, can't wait to see her reaction
Wow, your a great parent, you know what your kids really want!
I’m so jealous! My birthday is in a little less than 2 weeks and I’m really hoping for a switch oled
I only play in docked so I would have no need for one. Now if we got a actual Pro with more Ram, a better GPU, a 1TB SSD, and 4K DLSS capabilities I’d be all in to drop $500+.
Same here. Im going to wait until they release an Super Switch
Steam Deck has you covered.
i guess.. but then there's still the problem of devs releasing games that the old switch will be able to play too, so the new power will not really be used apart from better textures, faster load times etc.. they should just call it switch 2 or whatever so that devs arent restricted to the original switch's specs.
I thought there was an embargo stopping reviewers from comparing the Older switch compared to the OLED model? Either way great video and I've been waiting for something like this
On another video I believe he said that he didn't get it from nintendo. Some store (or something) sold it to him early. So he's not under any contract with nintendo.
@@Sulfen No strings on him lol
what about cooling? The original switch had small openings in the back to pull in air and exhaust it through the top. Since this one has a kickstand that covers the back, have you noticed any new sections that might allow for air to flow into? I see the exit point is still at the top but I was curious as to where the flow starts.
Omg the viewing angle 🤤 can’t wait to get mine
Man, I bet the Metro games will look amazing on that new screen. Talk about dark and moody games.
