Captain Dave! I just got my first boat a few months back and we subscribed and have benefited greatly from your knowledge and expertise! I am so old I remember meeting Carl Newell and thanking him personally for his reels. All we had was anchovies and I used to cast over peoples heads and hook albacore in the corner. No torpedo, no slider, no split shots..... no no no.... Hahaha

Yes tie a clothes pin to your line.Cast in the back yard. Also most tackle shops sell a rubber weight you can use to practices I learned in my back yard as a kid.
